  1. Bumping one more time before we meet tonight. 8pm central/9pm eastern is meeting time. Check here shortly before for a refreshed link to my Rabb.it. Otherwise, try the link to my main profile. https://www.rabb.it/OuroborosBlack
  2. I think the design elements are heavily influenced by the style of Fairy Tail from what I've seen so far, but I could be wrong. Even the facial reactions are nearly identical.
  3. He reminds me of Natsu, only without all the parts with Natsu being calm.... also less coherent.
  4. It's very good, imo. One of the best premises for a video game based anime. And I really enjoyed the action and characters from the first season. I'm deffinitely going to watch this one. I'm actually surprised Toonami didn't pick this up, it would probably go over well with their average audience.
  5. Just a quick reminder to everyone, we are on for tomorrow night's showing of One Piece! Things are starting to heat up now that our heroes have arrived at Sabaody Archipelago! The Showing will start at 8 PM Central, 9 PM Eastern and run until slightly before Toonami. We've extended it just a bit from the original plan the last few weeks to allow for holdups and intros ect... seems to be working well. Disregard time for the start on the OP, time is always 8 PM Central from here forward. Check here shortly before for more info and updated Rabb.it link, otherwise use the main link to my profile that I provided. Looking forward to seeing you guys!
  6. Robo is awesome.... Angry Lava Robo
  7. Hit is literally my favorite new character from Super. Also the English Voice Actor is good I think.
  8. Time for the best new fighter in the whole series! Hittttt
  9. Are they gonna air another Gundam?
  10. They should let Champa and Beerus brother fight in one of the Angel's Pocket Dimensions.
  11. I hate the way they are pronouncing Monika in this Dub. It sounds like "Moan-ickah" in the Japanese. It's not even a close pronunciation.
  12. Beerus doesn't care what you want!
  13. 8 to 10 Central 9 to 11 Eastern from this point forward. It is approximately when we ended up starting last week as well. Very sorry for the confusion. Group was awesome sauce tonight btw, I had great fun. And the episodes are a good watch for me second time in Dub form. It's been years since i've seen these parts anyways and they are pretty epic.
  14. Also no worries, I'm sure we will have more participants eventually! We are going to be starting very shortly btw, in case anyone wants to join.
  15. ben0119[/member] DBZ4ever[/member] Top Gun[/member] elfie[/member] AnimationFan14[/member] mochi[/member] A quick reminder to anyone interested, the One Piece group will start viewing the next four episodes in approximately 40 to 50ish mins. Episodes 389 - 393 are the intended schedule tonight. For those that missed last week but may want to join this week a brief recap if you are interested: Tune in to see what happens!
  16. I can't stand it, I don't even watch Cartoon Network much anymore, and it's not just because I've gotten too old or adult for it. It's because the shows they put out are just bad plot-wise, annoying and overly memey, or the animation/character designs/style is awful. This is true of much of the American cartoons past about 2005ish. There is also literally no action-oriented content. Which is why I watch Anime almost exclusively now in terms of animation. Don't get me wrong I would watch comedy cartoons... assuming they were good. I miss the days of good shows with good character designs, interesting plotlines, and actual adventures without characters just walking around doing completely stupid shit and then laughing about it. The last one is ok, but not as the entire basis for a tv show, cartoon or otherwise. Look at some of the first successful American cartoons, for example, Looney Tunes and Tex Avery. They had plenty of nonsensical and silly shit going on, but it was at least followable, the characters didn't just walk around and say stupid crap for an hour with no plot or character development. I would watch shows like Adventure Time, and while it had funny moments and amusing episodes, it just always made me think in the back of my head "This isn't memorable". I can't quote or even describe any scene from shows like that, and it is indicative of a serious writing problem, a lack of art design and animation techniques, and complete lack of in-depth character development. You get characters which are just vessels for conveying funny jokes to the audience instead of actually doing something in personality that is unique to them. The last show I can remember Cartoon Network airing that qualified any of those things would be Chowder, I mostly stopped watching CN sometime during the middle of Adventure Time, for previously stated reasons. I miss shows like Ed, Edd, n Eddy or Billy and Mandy which were great in all of the aforementioned categories. And you know how that is significantly evidenced to me? I can deffinitely remember and even quote multiple scenes from those shows, which are still hilarious to this day. I can do that with some of Chowder, but it was around that time that the quality of shows really decreased significantly in American Cartoons during any primetime hours.
  17. mochi[/member] I have also been very busy this week, thus my absence. On the side note of the Teen Titans and Teen Titans GO especially. I hated these shows, especially GO. I understand it was a lose reinterpretation but goddamnit don't make a mockery out of the comic like that, it was not a comic with a ton of comedic elements and certainly not a comedy oriented comic. How someone can take: And turn it into: American networks apparently think that kids only like randomness stupidity shows and/or comedy shows. My early childhood was in the 90s, so perhaps I'm a bit biased, but I think the major networks could take a few ques from Fox Box, and Nickelodeon's Saturday Morning block from back then. Just saying.
  18. ben0119[/member] Haha, I said this in the other thread already, but it is worth mentioning that Ivankov and the Okamas in One Piece are some of my favorite LGBT characters in that they are portrayed as positive characters, that have significant plot roles and just happen to be gay and flamboyant. I have no problem with that portrayal as long as the character has a good personality to go with it, and are not just being treated as a setting prop (i.e. they are just there because they are gay). Mochi listed a character in his list which illustrates my above point exceptionally well. The character I am referring to is the gay (implied) master from Fairy Tail. He has a very bland personality, never does anything significant, and is only portrayed as making uncomfortable suggestions about the male protagonists. This is what I call the "Gay Pet Syndrome", and it is not exclusive to anime. This is a prevalent character archetype in media as a whole, especially in current era TV shows in the US and UK. The Gay Pet Syndrome is a term I use when at least three of the following qualifiers are present: 1. The character in question is gay and numerous unnecessary references are made to that effect. This is frequently done when group dialogue is going on in a lot of shows, as just a way to constantly remind everyone that the character is gay so they obviously are irrelevant to whatever was just said. This can also come in the form of the character bringing it up repeatedly for seemingly no reason. This is often extremely distracting to me. I would liken this too when you have a straight couple in a show that is just obnoxiously infatuated with each other and basically do nothing else but fawn over each other while on screen. 2. The character in question is gay and is always shown only with a group of people of the opposite sex "hanging out" or tagging along ONLY. This is where I originally derived the term from in the first place, this is one where you see rampant in teen-oriented dramas in TV and Movies, some examples of this type of show are 90210, Riverdale, Glee, and just about any show with Vampires, Werewolves, or Supernaturals in it. Essentially they are shown as an extension of another character or group of characters (most typically girls dragging around and fag hagging their gay friends). 3. The character in question is gay and has no relevance to the plot whatsoever. By this, I mean characters that are just in a show or movie because the author thought it was a great idea to be inclusive of gays and/or just thought it would be cute to include one. This is probably the most patronizing and offensive to me personally. It is basically like saying "You're here, you're Queer, and that's it", Note to authors: don't include LGBT characters if you are just going to have them there with no actual purpose. There are a couple of rather prominent examples of this type in The Walking Dead (though I love this show they do this with almost all of the characters they portray as being gay, which is to say they are just there to be gay). 4. The character in question is gay and is portrayed with a massive amount of gay stereotype related mannerisms, personality quirks, or memes. This is probably the least offensive to me of the group above believe it or not, and I really only find it offensive when paired with more than one of the others and if it is done to an obnoxiously high degree that ends up distracting from what would otherwise be a good and likable character. I have zero problems with gay men being portrayed as feminine, or eccentric in shows or lesbians being portrayed as masculine, or tomboys in shows but don't overdo it to the point where it detracts from the character's background, motives, plot, etc... And, especially don't do it if you are just using this as another method of expressing qualifier number 1. This is to say stereotypical actions/mannerisms that are repeated not because of the character's personality but in awkward ways in which no person would ever act. This is another example of bringing up the sexuality for seemingly no reason, it is super distracting to me.
  19. I wouldn't consider a lot of these characters to necessarily being homophobic representations, though there are some notable exceptions on your list that I would agree with, Puri Puri Prisoner being one of them, though I don't think the author was intending on legitimizing the portrayal but rather lampooning the fact that it is a prevalent portrayal in anime. Some of these I would deffinitely agree are gay by implication, this is frequently done in anime I think for cultural and sensibility reasons. That said some of the ones that are, such as Hisoka from HxH, are not being portrayed in a homophobic light but rather as an evil character that just happens to be gay, the Gourmet would be another example of this. By and large, most representations are not that of being creepy or evil though so I don't see that as an overall problem but rather just showing that gays are like any other people and can be complex characters with individual personalities, with or without major flaws or ill intentions. I would say you have a point about there being significantly less representation of gay characters that are shown with non-stereotypical mannerisms, i.e. gay men are shown as feminine and flamboyant and lesbians are shown as butch and crass people. This is not always the case, but it is very frequently in anime. I think this is not necessarily overt homophobia as it is a bad conception of what a gay person is on the part of the author. This is probably due to a number of major factors such as most manga authors being straight men, who obviously have very little first-hand experience with LGBT people unless they just have a very close relative or friend. And even then, there are admittedly a loud minority of people in real life that do portray those characteristics prominently. So it is entirely possible that they would have only that association to draw on.
  20. That's a bit inaccurate. I wouldn't consider Bulat to have been sexually harassing him... People are so sensitive to being flirted with today even in a joking or playful manners because as a society (especially western modern society) we have stigmatized sexuality in general. And so any overt gesture no matter how innocuous it may ultimately become an affront to the virtue or self-worth of the person in question when it never was intended as such. In fact, at least when I do this, it is a means of endearment to the individual in question not that I am really hitting on them. My more intelligent and good friends that I have done this with have responded in kind, knowing full well I am not serious and am not trying to grope them or whatever lmao.

  22. Also, apologize for not posting this a bit sooner, I hope everyone gets a chance to see the above notice. I have just been very busy this week with a project and stuff. Very much looking forward to this and Toonami tonight, which I will be around for this week!
  23. ben0119[/member] DBZ4ever[/member] Top Gun[/member] elfie[/member] AnimationFan14[/member] mochi[/member] We are going to be viewing again tonight for anyone interested in joining yet again. We managed to get through 4 episodes before Toonami. The viewing will start tonight at 9 pm central (10 pm eastern). We will air the viewing right up until about 15 mins before Toonami broadcast. Highly encourage those that want to join come along about 5ish minutes early. If you are going to be late and not too long let me know via pm and we will hold it for a small duration if reasonable. SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS ABOUT THE RABB.IT VIEWING EXPERIENCE/FEATURES/GROUP STANDARDS!!! To answer questions, it worked and worked very well. There was only one small hiccup in the second episode Animation fan disconnected so had to pause for a minute to let him reconnect. Other than that no stability issues or lag on either end. People were able to view in full quality and fullscreen. Rabb.it has good features and includes a theatre mode with the chat on the side of a maximized full-screen window. This lets people chat and discuss anytime they like about the episode without having to minimize. Further discussion after episodes are aired should be discussed/reviewed here. Please put any and all discussions about episodes in spoilers with the indication for those that may miss. I will also post a very short episode recap in a spoiler from now on for those that miss attached to the weekly announcement post the day of the viewing. This will probably be the standard time from now on unless I post a postponement for the week here or on the group discord (in the event of being unable to show that week or over major holidays/vacation weeks). In addition, I may organize some weekends such as 4 day weekends etc... where people will be available as small Marathons of new episodes or potential recaps for anyone that missed. I will post here and on Discord with all relevant updates about this group. For those that missed last week, there was not that much missed, the first ark after Thriller Bark Saga is a very short filler/setup ark for the new main storyline Saga known as Which is arguably one of the biggest quality increases in content in all of One Piece and a real turning point for the Straw Hats. My rabb.it link for tonight's group viewing: https://lets.rabb.it/886j/kGYfwREPRG Try this if the above doesn't work: https://www.rabb.it/OuroborosBlack Permanent Group Discord: https://discord.gg/tffFRj2 I will be in my Rabb.it room approximately 10 minutes before viewing to set things up and make sure I'm not lagging. Will post here if there is a delay, but there shouldn't be.
