A Chronological Look at Adult Swim's Kids Shows
Mr. Idea Box replied to Mr. Idea Box's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
If you think that's odd, Toonami wasn't the first place Tenchi was spotted in America. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KQEH Yes, you're reading this correctly. A PBS affiliate aired the Tenchi dub before Toonami. -
A Chronological Look at Adult Swim's Kids Shows
Mr. Idea Box replied to Mr. Idea Box's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I mean, I originally thought of putting Yu Yu Hakusho on this list, even though Adult Swim was its original home. I'm glad someone agrees with me about that. But I'm also glad there are people on this site who try to prevent such gripings as well. -
In light of recent rumors, I thought I should look back at Adult Swim's history and see if they've aired kids shows before. Turns out, they have. Rocky and Bullwinkle Tenchi Muyo Tenchi Universe The Ripping Friends The Popeye Show ToonHeads The Bob Clampett Show Cartoon Planet (1995) The Gary Coleman Show Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos Mr. T Saved by the Bell Pee-wee's Playhouse The Super Globetrotters Voltron Astro Boy (1963) Star Wars: The Clone Wars ThunderCats (2011) Sym-Bionic Titan IGPX Beware the Batman Samurai Jack Adventure Time Pelswick (Canadian exclusive) The Super Dave Osborne Show (Canadian exclusive) Unicorn: Warriors Eternal My Adventures with Superman Checkered Past shows Dexter's Laboratory Ed, Edd, n Eddy The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy Courage the Cowardly Dog Grim and Evil Cow and Chicken I Am Weasel Evil Con Carne Sailor Moon OG Naruto Invincible Fight Girl (I hope not, but it's coming to Canada.) Granted, a lot of these had some reason to be here, such as: Adult Swim needed something to air between 5 and 6 in the morning. (Pee-wee's Playhouse, Mr. T, The Popeye Show, etc.) Toonami had to return with some American cartoons in 2012. (ThunderCats, Beware the Batman, Sym-Bionic Titan) Some of the Cartoon Cartoons got away with some nasty stuff. (Courage the Cowardly Dog, Billy and Mandy, Cow and Chicken, etc.) Time filler, but before the Fox reruns. (Adventure Time) John Kricfalusi (The Ripping Friends) Canadian requirements (Pelswick, Super Dave) Cartoon Network just doesn't air action these days (Unicorn, MAWS, Sailor Moon) Sure, Adult Swim has pushed its boundaries last year, but Invincible Fight Girl might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me. Call me over-emotional, but that's my two cents. I dunno, man. I just hope MeTV Toons comes to my neck of the woods, because I shudder to think what the future holds for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim.

Honestly, you make a fine point about this. -
My 2024 Toonami Schedule Predictions
Mr. Idea Box replied to jake1954's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Frankly, I don't know which is sadder: Adult Swim having another kids show on its block no thanks to Z*****, or Scavengers Reign being overshadowed by a prestigious anime of its own. -
Coincidentally, DiC would later adapt the Sabrina sitcom into animation, complete with Nick Bakay reprising his role as Salem.

My 2024 Toonami Schedule Predictions
Mr. Idea Box replied to jake1954's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
It's nearly June by now, and I'd like to see how well these predictions have fared: The expectation may have shifted to July at the earliest, but I still think MHA would be one of Toonami's premieres for 2024. If they're airing reruns of Entertainment District before November, I think it's safe to say we're getting more Demon Slayer on the block. Mashle would be a fun surprise, but I wouldn't count on it. Hulu picked up UU this year, and Disney's doing nothing with it. Maybe if they're desperate enough, they can put it on Disney X.D. or something. Eizouken might be a neat pickup, especially with Lycoris Recoil and Zom 100 getting slots since January. Who knows? If either of these two come back to Toonami, my money's on One Punch Man's return over Fire Force. Nothing changed here. Second verse, same as the first. I actually think Boruto might be more likely now, between Shippuden's finale, Naruto Classic coming to Toonami Rewind, and Boruto's own resurgence in the manga. Despite all this, I would give it a 2/10 at most. I hope so too, but who can say how that happens. -
I know I'll watch the first night...afternoon....evening. Adult Swim's gotten weird lately. I think that's because of how much that show got away with, even by Cartoon Network standards. So it fits as a lead-in to Adult Swim in general.

I mean, they're both in the channel. Freakazoid is just on close to Midnight. Not only that, but with Captain Planet weekdays at 6 AM, they have four and a half hours of E/I programming on here, exceeding the regulated minimum. I guess the Saturday late-night lineup could provide counter-programming for those who aren't into Toonami but still want some chaos. Other than that, I don't know how they got those timeslots.
-
Yeah, that tracks. Classic DeMarco. (exasperated sigh)
-
Just looked at the HiDive dubs section, and I don't think there's one for Lupin Zero. Still, I based that suggestion around Toonami's deals with Sentai Filmworks. Guess Scavengers is better suited for 2025 or later. Well, at least they have something for next year. DeMarco is aware of Urusei Yatsura? Since when? I hope they add a fourth show to Rewind instead of dumping Sailor Moon and Naruto to Saturday. But knowing how lucky animation of any sort gets at WB, I should brace myself for Usagi Tsukino at 2 in the morning.

I could be wrong in some cases, and very wrong in others, but this is my take.

I thought I'd bring this back to relevance with something I just realized. Assuming the final hour of mainline Toonami gets no changes for the rest of summer, and it likely will with Ninja Kamui and Demon Slayer, then Toonami Rewind would have caught up to the 2 AM repeats of DBZ Kai in mid-August, and outright surpassed them by the end of the month. August 9th-10th: Toonami Rewind airs Episodes 21 and 22, mainline Toonami airs Episode 22. August 16th-17th: Toonami Rewind airs Episodes 23 and 24, mainline Toonami airs Episode 23. August 23rd-24th: Toonami Rewind airs Episodes 25 and 26, mainline Toonami airs Episode 24. My current hypothesis is that DBZ Kai becomes exclusive to Toonami Rewind like Sailor Moon and OG Naruto in September. (Un)fortunately, between that and Shippuden's finale, the 3 AM slot would almost certainly have its Toonami branding removed and given back to Adult Swim.

Toonami Summer 2024 Predictions Thread
Mr. Idea Box replied to Mr. Idea Box's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Hi, guys. If this article is to be believed, then the Rick and Morty anime will in fact drop in July or August. https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-anime-release-date-summer/ In conclusion, this looks to be the summer plan for Toonami. May 2024: My Adventures with Superman premieres its second season. Toonami Rewind launches on Fridays. June 2024: Zom 100 comes back for the remaining episodes. Ninja Kamui begins its second rerun cycle, its first in a once-a-week cycle. The sub is presumably never getting reruns. July 2024: My Hero Academia premieres its seventh season on Toonami. Rick and Morty: The Anime replaces My Adventures with Superman at Midnight. August 2024: Naruto Shippuden finally reaches its series finale. One Piece moves back to 1:30 AM. It's just there. Scavengers Reign takes up the 1 AM slot behind Rick and Morty and My Hero Academia. IGPX gets its remastered second season on Toonami after being snubbed in February. Fall 2024: Uzumaki airs in October, culminating in a marathon of both it and Housing Complex C on November 2nd. I admit my current prediction for July, August, and October might be muddled, especially with DBZ Kai theoretically becoming exclusive to Toonami Rewind if its two episodes a week plan holds water. But given the episode orders in place, I have a feeling either Demon Slayer or Dr. Stone would have to wait until January. Or both of them wait for the new year and Primal takes its place. Who can say at this point? -
I sincerely hope Sakamoto Days can escape Netflix Jail, because I don't see Funimation or Crunchyroll involved in this, and TMS Entertainment does have a connection with Toonami. But if it's a Netflix exclusive like Stone Ocean, I can only wish the One Piece fans shed some light on this thanks to how good the remake's first season was.
