Yeah, the MSPCA here is fucking dumb. I tried volunteering there last year, my company donates $1000 to my organization of choice if I volunteer 20 hours in a year, and they tried putting me on kennel cleaning detail.... like hands and knees scrubbing shit... I looked at them and said, "Why don't you get the juveniles that have community service obligations to do that stuff? I will be walking the dogs and grooming the cats and dogs, thanks", I was pissed.
Now I volunteer at NESAA (New England Society of Abandoned Animals), they are strictly a no kill shelter and don't give up until they find a home, regardless of medical conditions. I have fostered quite a few animals from there because they needed space they also collaborate with Petsmart to get cats adopted in their stores, and their vetting process is second to none.
Have you considered getting involved in dog/cat transport?
