rants Haters/Complainers: Legacy of Spleen
Blackrose321 replied to mthor's topic in General Discussion
Omg that reminds me of the time my upstairs neighbors were having sex at like 2 am. I've always struggled to fall asleep (and stay asleep) so my husband was conked out next to me while I was just laying there in the dark listening to two strangers bang it out. -
What did you have for dinner?
Blackrose321 replied to The_annoying_one's topic in General Discussion
Grilled chicken thigh and asparagus. My MiL made it and it was so good that I think I'll use the same recipe at home once she sends it to me. I'm so picky when it comes to protein so last night's dinner was a victory. -

I've got TMJ and it's bad. It's been bad for 4+ years. It's a daily struggle and sometimes it gets so bad that I can't sleep because I'm locked up so tight. And yet neither my dental nor my medical insurance want to cover any potential treatment. How does anyone look at this fucked up system and say, "Yep, this is good"? -

2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Blackrose321 replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
Let's investigate why that might be. https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/la-times-presidential-endorsement-2024-19854770.php Who is Patrick Soon-Shiong? https://www.statnews.com/2016/11/21/trump-soon-shiong/ Another one of Trump's billionaire friends. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Soon-Shiong So it sounds like he took over in 2018, after Trump already won in 2016. Then in 2020, he pushed back against supporting Biden and this year he won out altogether. So this is another nothingburger. Harris didn't break the streak, a billionaire gaming the system did. Just like Trump, and just like all the other examples I gave you of Trump showing favoritism to corporations. It's so blatant I don't get why you don't care. -

Do we really think Bob Casey's opinion matters though? The entire point of what you posted seems to be that he feels vulnerable so he's scraping the bottom of the barrel for Trump supporters. If he's actually at risk, enough so to go back on his original opinion that Trump should be impeached, then he's not really in a position to have widespread influence over Democrats, obviously. Trump has also been shedding people since basically day 1 in his office. People are a bit immune to that news. - Trump thinks his daughter is sexy, has some weird preoccupation with Arnold Palmer's penis, and just told the entire world that Barron is a virgin. His supporters are posting signs saying they love (white) felons. His supporters are immune to decency and common sense, we've always known that. Harris is still not a well defined candidate at all, largely at her own fault for not doing media availability. - Trump has walked out of interviews and fled all debates with Kamala. He doesn't understand tariffs, he says we'll never have to vote again if he wins, and he passes laws and rolls back policies to aid corporations, examples of which I've outlined for you before. What this literally comes down to is, "I know Trump is a shitty guy but I don't know enough about his opponent". His support boils down to a cult of personality, you can't fight that kind of fanaticism. Trump is Trump, and everyone knows what Trump is. - Exactly, nothing Kamala does will matter, she could end the immigration crisis and we'd still be talking about her hair or something. So I'm not really worried about anyone peeling support away from her, you are either with Trump and his corporations or you're with Kamala and your own best interests, that won't change at this point. You either care more about the culture war or policy, and we've found that the average American votes like they're watching American Idol. -

NY Times - The website isn't working for me, it requires my email before I can read the article but the page gets stuck. What I can read at the top says that Trump's campaign denounced Casey. Axios - Politician vulnerable to losing race decides to suck up to opposing side because his state is purple - not indicative of Kamala's chances, just more political bullshit from a nepo baby. Telegraph - Trying to charge me to read and I'm not signing up for a trial I'll forget to cancel. lol What are your thoughts on the people turning on Trump, is that a death knell for him as well? Do you relate to Trump calling you a basement dweller? Do you feel he was correct that if he repeats something often enough that you are gullible enough to believe it? -

2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences

I grew up in rural PA. You can best characterize this area using the following: Low educational attainment Poor education system overall High religiosity (in theory, not in practice) Low wages Long job commutes Homogenous (white Christian laborers) Racist/fearful rhetoric - see #6 Unhealthy - obesity, drugs, alcohol, poor mental health Needless to say I left and don't visit often. There's no reason to. I reluctantly went back last week and there were Trump signs everywhere. The one that really got me though was posted on this ugly ass trailer that I initially thought had been abandoned. Many houses are there. It was filthy dirty, crooked, and surrounded by trash. But as we drove by, a Trump banner came into view and my mind was fucking blown. Ok sure, vote for Trump to "own" me but at the end of the day, I don't live in a shack, suffer from whatever addiction leads a person to live in squalor, work a thankless manual labor job for minimum wage, and live 30 minutes away from the nearest grocery store. So what point system are we using to determine who has won and who has lost here? -

What Are You Thinking About Right Now?
Blackrose321 replied to DragonSinger's topic in General Discussion
Visited family this week. While driving through rural PA my husband joked, "How long do you think we'll drive before we see a Harris/Walz sign?" We didn't see a single one until we reached my family's house, where they had a Harris sign in their yard. Anyways, next to my dad's singular Harris sign, our 80 year old neighbor put up two of her own - first, one for Trump with fake news on it. Second, a "Democrats for Harris" sign, apparently posted to annoy my dad but it's such a weird approach. He's the only Democrat for miles so no one is actually going to think he posted both signs, that makes no sense. It's just such a limp-dicked thing to do. This is (one reason) why I don't do political signage - it invites the crazy in. I don't even want passive aggressive crazy. -

What Are You Thinking About Right Now?
Blackrose321 replied to DragonSinger's topic in General Discussion
I suppose my issue is that I don't feel like discussing it on social media is worthwhile. For every good conversation, there are countless bad ones geared more towards arguing and insulting than understanding and learning. Posting private info online seems like a risk with few potential positive outcomes. Mostly they just put themselves out there for criticism when their son seems to feel like it wasn't necessary to put it on the internet at all. And I think we still ultimately peg young people as the "oversharers" but I see a lot of older people posting things they really should have reflected on first. So the kid being the one to say, “I feel a little bit weird about it, because it's not something you want to brag about or put out to the world or anything." was oddly refreshing. But maybe I'm jaded now, I've cut my social media use waaaay down so maybe I'm just cranky. lol -

Tbh I'm not sure where you draw the line, I never thought about it before. https://extension.missouri.edu/publications/g2911 So by that metric, possibly? However, there are states that allow first cousins to marry so there's that. And then there's this: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-many-americans-are-married-to-their-cousins/ All in all, I have no clue - the kid just cracked me up because he was basically like, "TMI, mom and dad!", and he's totally right. Sharing private info online is usually a bad idea. Now this kid is going to have that attached to his family, out there for all to comment on, and for no reason other than his parents decided to post online. And both of his parents are young enough that they should have known better! -

It's important to note that you probably shouldn't be on these shots if you have an ED, whether it's been diagnosed or not. Even if you have no official diagnosis, you would already know if your eating habits are, at the very least, disordered. But without a diagnosis, it would naturally be easier to lie when asked about your medical history in order to get what you want. Outside known issues that we can test for (PCOS, hypothyroidism, etc.), it's hard to identify the cause of obesity - did this patient gain weight because they binge/purge, or because they experienced a trauma and put on weight afterward? Did they make nutritional mistakes that compounded over the years or have they been binging? This is unfortunately the case with a lot of things. My dad, for example, was put on Vicodin 10+ years ago but he's been an alcoholic since his teens. He really shouldn't have been a candidate for any hard drugs unless they exhausted other avenues first, which didn't happen with him because they didn't know about his past alcohol abuse. I guarantee you that he lies every time this question is asked on a medical form so they didn't hesitate when writing the script. So yeah, I could see someone lying to get put on these shots and consequently experiencing worsening symptoms of a pre-existing condition of some sort. I've also read that some people who previously suffered from "food noise" have experienced improvement in that area. There definitely seems to be a wide range in reactions.

Someone on reddit said that if you check the truck's dashcam it shows him going 5 over the speed limit. I didn't verify but if that's true, I'm wondering what kind of idiot parent allows their kid to speed through a detour like that. She'd passed several other trucks before causing the accident so it sounds to me like she was flying. And her mom sat there through all of that thinking yeah this good?
