  1. OMG READ THE ARTICLE "By 2015, the Missile Defense Agency had started efforts to deploy a laser on a high-altitude UAV. Rather than a manned jetliner containing chemical fuels flying at 40,000 feet (12 km), firing a megawatt laser from a range of "tens of kilometers" at a boost-phase missile, the new concept envisioned an unmanned aircraft carrying an electric laser flying at 65,000 feet (20 km), firing the same power level at targets potentially up to "hundreds of kilometers" away for survivability against air defenses. While the ABL's laser required 55 kg (121 lb) to generate one kW, the MDA wanted to reduce that to 2–5 kg (4.4–11.0 lb) per kW, totaling 5,000 lb (2,300 kg) for a megawatt. Unlike the ABL, which required its crew to rest and chemical fuel to be reloaded, an electric laser would need only power generating from fuel to fire, so a UAV with in-flight refueling could have near-inexhaustible endurance and armament. A "low-power demonstrator" has been planned to fly sometime in or around 2021." They scrapped the program because it was practically and tactically unsuccessful. They then continued research with better tech and UAV's. This is how research goes for DoD programs. I love using your posts with clickbait titles and and no real substance as a means to shitpost with things that I think are interesting, but come on man. I would be happy to debate or discuss things that I am knowledgeable of, but maybe read the articles that you post first? Haha
  2. Not at all. It is the fact that laser technology is not good enough or cheap enough yet to make this practical. Read the cancellation article in the link that you yourself posted. In order for this thing to have been operationally successful it would have to fly in contested airspace.
  3. Omg so I live under a rock and have never heard of Uncle Roger until this post! Needless to say I spent most of last night going down the rabbit hole watching his videos. Lmao he is hilarious. HIYAHHH
  4. Okay, so I will have to photograph every animal and water fountain I see at the zoo whenever I go next week! I would go today after work but it is raining today Oh well, at least it is Friday!
  5. From the very link you posted: "I don't know anybody at the Department of Defense, Mr. Tiahrt, who thinks that this program should, or would, ever be operationally deployed. The reality is that you would need a laser something like 20 to 30 times more powerful than the chemical laser in the plane right now to be able to get any distance from the launch site to fire ... So, right now the ABL would have to orbit inside the borders of Iran in order to be able to try and use its laser to shoot down that missile in the boost phase. And if you were to operationalize this you would be looking at 10 to 20 747s, at a billion and a half dollars apiece, and $100 million a year to operate. And there's nobody in uniform that I know who believes that this is a workable concept."
  6. Omg yes! Haha that sounds like a perfect outdoor mini adventure to start Spring activities! It is supposed to get chilly here again tomorrow and this weekend but next week it is supposed to warm up again, so I will walk over to the zoo and take pictures of the aminals! Fun fact about my local zoo: there used to be a happy bear who lived there who would spend his days masturbating and having fun until he got old and died of old age. I feel like most zoo's have an animal like that haha
  7. Yasss Spring! I wish I lived in a historic district, but I live in a more rural town haha there is a park and small zoo right next to me though. Maybe I should check it out!
  8. Lmao I am literally watching Top Gear UK as I type this
  9. So I am currently thinking about dinner and Artin L-functions, and the Artin conjecture in general, which has remained elusive to proof! So, essentially an Artin L-function is a Dirichlet series with a linear representation p of a Galois group G in a finite dimensional complex vector space V, such that G is the Galois group of the finite extension L/K of number fields, and the Artin L-function L(p,s) is defined by an Euler product. There is an Euler factor for every prime ideal p in K's ring of integers! The simplest case of this to define is when p is unramified in L, where the Frobenius element Frob(p) is a conjugacy class in G. Therefore, the characteristic polynomial of p(Frob(p)) is defined. The Euler factor of p is defined as: 1/(poly(p(Frob(p)))) = 1/(det[I-tp(Frob(p))]), where ploy is the characteristic polynomial, det is the determinant. This is a rational function of t, evaluated at t = s/(N(p)), with s being a complex variable in the usual Riemann zeta function notation. If we are dealing with the ramified p, I is the inertia group which is a subgroup of G, where the same process is done, but to a subspace with V fixed by I. The Artin L-function L(p, s) is then the infinite product over all prime ideals p of these factors. Being able to prove this, and other problems and statements related to it are some of the most cutting edge problems in modern mathematics and science. So I guess you could say that is what is on my mind today. Oh wait! You were baiting people into this thread with a clickbait title haha my bad, I thought you were just asking what I was thinking about!
  10. Lmao I do periodically enjoy my nothingness and relaxation, especially in winter. Though spring is coming and I wanna get out and do stuff! Lately though, I have not even felt like leaving the house, so you are way ahead of me there with your walk!
  11. Lately all I have done is work, sleep and eat haha I need to get off my asssss
  12. Soup is my favorite general type of food. Some people say I am simple for that, but soup is so amazing. Aside from maybe fire cooked meats, soup is one of the oldest culinary preparations. If I recall, some peoples were making soups and stews over 20,000 years ago, according to archaeologist. That is insane to me. It really is in fact the first type of actually prepared meals, where ingredients, preparation and methodology go into the final product. I think it even predates bread! Soups are indigenous in cultures on every continent accept Antarctica (because no indigenous peoples live there haha) and more generally, every culture has soups. It is one of the most universal prepared foods. There are endless types of soups to make, and they are easy to improvise and make your own. They are my absolute favorite type of foods! I always make a ton whenever I cook it haha but I live alone so I usually do not end up getting to share it. Maybe I will go to the soup kitchen and start making it there some times!
  13. So this is something that has been debated/discussed. We know that Riko gets the name from her pet dog, Reg, and decides to name Reg the boy/robot after him. We also know that this dog was around before Lyza left on her last dive, so she was aware of it too. We know that Lyza encounter Reg from her notes and from Reg's various flashbacks about her. It is believed that Lyza might be the one who sent Reg up to the surface to possibly get Riko and protect her or even bring her down the Abyss. If so, then she more than likely gave him the name Reg too (multiple characters in the story have noted how Reg is dog like) and probably taught him things like her language, mannerisms, etc. If true, then this probably means that she encountered him on the 7th layer and named him before he even started heading upwards and eventually encountered Faputa. Another theory is that Lyza's or Reg the Dogs soul might be inside Reg the Robot since he mentions having multiple presences take control of his body when he recharges at Ido Front. But we will not know for sure until we get more manga chapters! Yep, we learn in Dawn of the Deep Soul that we can still control and fire it! So it is like a side arm of Riko now hahahahah
  14. YAYYYY And I made chicken and rice soup! Mostly from scratch haha, well the broth was just broth I bought from the store (I was too lazy to wait 18 hours for a good bone broth to simmer), with some garlic clove, onion, carrots, celery, peas and corn. I seasoned with lots of bay leaf, sugar, sesame, poppy and salt and pepper. And 5 whole breast of chicken and a good amount of white rice! Cooked for about 4 hours on low heat. Food for the rest of the week/weekend!
  15. I have actually recently finished the PLUTO manga and my god, I thought it was really good. I have never really cared for Astro Boy, or more like I just never really checked it out (I know, it is a classic and I live under a rock), but after reading this reinterpretation, I have to say that I will be going back and checking out AB in full! Sucks that the PLUTO anime will end up in Netflix jail. It would have been perfect for the Block..
  16. Yea I guess I had not really considered that. It would kind of make sense that older stuff would still be expensive. Given how studios seem to think that they cannot get enough material out, owners would not be willing to distribute older projects for cheap just because they are old. Oh well. Here is to hoping we can get something decent.
  17. Frank is God He will fix all
  18. Well, the sun is just a mass of hydrogen and helium formed from the molecular cloud that our solar system coalesced out of. The immense mass and pressure, and subsequent heat, fuse the hydrogen into helium. The sun will continue to do this until it falls out of hydrostatic equilibrium, expanding into a red giant, and ultimately becoming a white dwarf. Sorry, not sure what your question was, but there you go.
  19. I mean I know what we use in space vehicles for power haha if we were indeed lied to and their were nuclear reactors on satellites and the like, we would know about them from when the blow up in the atmosphere from time to time.. There are rigorous treaties about nuclear materials in high altitude and space. Though I guess these could be lied about, but as I said, it would be well known rather quickly if nuclear payloads were going to space en mass.
  20. Well she would act like a three year old a lot haha and many times it would be frustrating because she would leave marks and draw blood sometimes haha
  21. Well I'm about to get sick From watchin' my TV Been checkin' out the news Till my eyeballs fail to see I mean to say that every day Is just another rotten mess (Sure 'nuff!) And when it's gonna change, my friend Is anybody's guess (Well!) (Woa!) So I'm Watchin' and I'm a-waitin' I'm hopin' for the best Even think I'll go to prayin' Every time I hear 'em sayin' There's no way to delay That trouble comin' every day There's no way to delay That trouble comin' every day
  22. I usually distract my hunger with the mastication of organic nutrients!! I guess I mean that I eat when I am hungry hahahaha but I hope you are feeling better and able to eat now. I made a huge pot of soup last night and after not eating all day I am about to eat so much of it!
  23. I had a girlfriend who used to love to bite me. Kinda miss it now..
  24. So voyager did not have a nuclear reactor but instead a radioisotope thermoelectric generator. This works more like a battery and operates off of radioactive decay, and the heat it produces. There are no fissile reactions. They are also tiny in size and output and are only useful for research purposes. You cannot really make a weapon out of it..
  25. Is Demarco in charge anymore? I thought he was mostly just the twitter lightning rod now. But either way you are right, this trend started years before now.
