  1. Isn't that movie just about finished, though? I think it's due out by the end of the year. I feel it's different to cancel a series before it finishes (especially if later season are still early/not in production), but they sunk so much money into this movie at this point that they would be fools not to release it in some way.
  2. They could care less about losing these shows if they aren't making money for them. It's a sad fact, but it's reality.
  3. Don't forget having a duplicate if you can afford it. I've been burned too many times when my drive dies and I lose everything on it... Time to start archiving these shows I guess!
  4. I wish we got to here the full story behind that episode. IIRC the only think Tomino ever said about banning it was "He know what he did."
  5. I think this is one of the bigger concerns I have with it. I just don't see how they can do it without making it look super fake.
  6. I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of Super (I still consider the series to end at DBZ), but it's MUCH better than Evolution. Evolution really just seems like an anomaly to Dragon Ball at this point. I honestly think most people forgot it existed, and it really only serves a purpose as an example of a terrible live action adaptation of anime. No one is really turned off of watching Dragon Ball because of it. It reminds of me of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in that way. Batman and Robin, though, is wonderful in how campy it is. I remember catching the movie during a New Years Eve marathon when I was little and thinking it was at least fun. It's definitely one of those movies you can watch and just laugh at and have fun with. I think it helps that there have been very good live action Batman movies made after it, so it's not like it was the final word on live action Batman.
  7. Wait what I thought it was trolling. They aren't serious, are they?
  8. When Funimation released Akira a few years back they had both English dubs on there, too. Not unprecedented, but not something you see on every release.
  9. Just watched it last night and wow, I thought it was a wonderful way to end the rebuild movie series, and really Eva as a whole (spinoffs notwithstanding). First though, a note on Eva 3.0: Now on to Eva 3.0 + 1.0:
  10. Admittedly a bit melodramatic on my part, I'll give you that. Regardless, I don't think this is gonna be good.
  11. Does he really want a blockbuster live action One Piece movie that bad? I honestly can't see this doing well in any capacity. One can argue for live action Cowboy Bebop, or even a live action Death Note, because those shows aren't terribly far removed from the realm of reality. One Piece has FAR to much of a fantastical and cartoon-like feel that I can't see how this is going to translate over to live action well. It's going to end up either too grimdark and gritty to feel like One Piece, or it's going to to be too overly bright and cartoony that it's going to turn off anybody coming to watch it.
  12. I'd never given thought to the fact that SD and HD would have different rights associated with them. If it's true, then it really is the end of an era for Toonami. Unless of course DeMarco just throws the SD tapes on. I would pay to see that. As for live-action Bebop, I think I'm gonna have to watch this. I have absolutely no expectations that this will be good, but I need to know. I need to see this for myself and experience the pain first hand.
  13. Who actually wanted this? Did anybody want this? As far as I know most people know better than to want live action adaptations of anime these days. As far as I can tell this is just something we're getting shoved down our throats and told to like. Which just makes it all the worse.
  14. The classic dub is an extra on the higher priced versions? 🙃 One would think it would come standard on the base set... Well I guess they need to gouge people somehow. Plus most casuals won't care about the old dub anyway. Guess I'm buying the collector's edition.
  15. Yeah I'd have to agree with this. It seems very much like clickbait to say we live in a "post-Toonami world" when all that really mean is that Toonami (and US terrestrial television in general) no longer has the influence it did on what shows become popular like it did 15-20 years ago.
  16. I'm sure if they would have had 5 hours to program they would have included Asteroid Blues and Real Folk Blues. Seems like it's (barring the three above) all the plot-relevant episodes, and Toys in the Attic. I get that Bebop is a short show, but I swear to God they show the same episodes every marathon.
  17. Okay, this puts it more into perspective. So Johnny Quest really WAS a big enough deal to warrant a sendoff promo like that.
  18. I don't think their goal is to gain anything, really, other than to just change the block up for a bit. Toonami always airs a marathon around Christmas, and unless I'm mistaken, there's been a demand to see both western animation (due to the lack thereof) and movies (due to dislike of marathons) on Toonami. I think DeMarco and co. have made it clear that they'll make at least SOME programming decisions based on fan favorites or fan demand (Outlaw Star comes to mind), so it was probably made with that in mind.
  19. Yeah I think I can say the same thing. I didn't watch Toonami at that time but I've seen that promos numerous times and I always wondered if The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest was that good of a show to warrant such a sendoff. It doesn't look particularly interesting IMO. Also, no one I can tell is particularly nostalgic for Toonami when it was defined by Johnny Quest.
  20. I'm of the opinion that live action remakes of animated works (at least all the ones nowadays) attempt to de-legitimize the original work and make it acceptable for adults and other "mature" people to watch or enjoy it, effectively reinforcing the notion that all animation is for children. Or maybe I'm just bitter that these things keep coming out at all. Regardless, I'm not watching.
  21. How is it not? While AT&T is pushing HBO Max, it's a pretty big leap to assume they forced these on Toonami and said "you have no choice." They probably offered it last minute and Toonami took them up on it. Until any evidence contrary comes out that's the most logical scenario. Toonami hasn't had the most stable of schedules anyway. Remember the entire back half of 2014? I don't think there was a stable schedule for more than two weeks.
  22. I'll take this. Haven't been watching Toonami since I haven't been following the shows, but I'll probably tune in for this.
  23. Is this the Disk Wars dub? If so I found it in like 2 minutes.
  24. Not surprising. Anime seems to be becoming a more mainstream and acceptable form of entertainment in the United States than it was in the past. I'd argue that the pandemic and more people out of work for the time does contribute heavily to those numbers, though.
