... Toonami really needs to get SAO III and Astral Ocean.
-
One can only hope. It does appear that 3:30 might again become part of Toonami. That'll take us out to 5 hours. One more slot and we'll be at the same length Toonami was going to be before the Great Purge of 2015.

Toonami To Rerun Attack On Titan Season 2 At 3 AM
CaptainStarwind replied to The1gairon's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
We don't need proof when it's pretty obvious that Toei is to blame for a lot of this. Think about it: when Super was first picked up they didn't announce that it was going to be airing at 8:00 PM first. They said it was going to premiere on Toonami. It wasn't until it was about the premiere that they made a small announcement about the 8:00 PM airing. Why wait so long if that was the plan all along? And besides, why pick up the show for Toonami in the first place if it couldn't even premiere on the block? It would make sense that they picked it up for the block, only to have Toei tell then that they needed to premiere the episode earlier. To be completely honest with you, I'm also beginning to think more and more that the Super rerun leading off the block is the doing of Toei as well. The Toonami crew have shown before that they're not stupid enough to think a rerun will do well as the leadoff show; remember, it was the doing of Adult Swim itself, not Toonami, that put AoT reruns at the front of the block in 2014, and one can probably argue a similar case for the recent Jack reruns. So, assuming that they know a rerun won't lead the block off well, I can see Super leading off the block for two reasons: A. Toei has mandated that the show remain at the top or near the top of the schedule. Not an incredibly far stretch, I believe, given how low the ratings for the series has been at 8:00 PM. Toei perhaps saw that the audience was splitting between the two airings and wanted to try and get as much of it as possible. B. The license for Dragon Ball Super could not have been cheap. There was a lot of hype for the show coming to America, and that, as well as it being a Dragon Ball property, probably cost Toonami a decent chunk of change. Perhaps they're airing it as the leadoff show to try and recoup as much of their investment as they can. -

I posted this elsewhere, but if Toei really is the one who is dictating all of these stupid Super airings, then I don't even think it's worth it to air the show anymore. Or at the very least, move Super down to the latter half of the block after the premieres. It's become fairly obvious at this point that a rerun of an episode that aired three hours before can't keep a decent audience, so why use it to lead off the block? Probably a stupid Toei mandate as well, but I made my point. -
That's been fairly obvious for about two years now.

Toonami To Rerun Attack On Titan Season 2 At 3 AM
CaptainStarwind replied to The1gairon's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Well, I didn't think Toonami would get 11:00 PM back at all, let alone this quickly. From that standpoint this is a pretty good announcement. I'm wasn't too concerned about Dragon Ball Super at 11, but I'm a bit peeved now that it IS going to be a rerun again, after making it a premiere for a single week. Honestly, if Toei really is the one that is dictating where and how many times Super airs, I don't even think it's worth it to air the show anymore, quality regardless. So we go from a rerun at 11, to losing 11, back to a rerun at 11. Happy Days Are Here Again -
Wow I hope Chris is gonna be alright.

I'll give you credit for actually watching the series a decent way through before dropping it, but what you say being damning? Lol no. Just because you don't like the series doesn't mean everyone doesn't like it. There are people who like the series, even with the reasons you claim are "damning" evidence that it sucks. I can give "damning" evidence why Eureka Seven AO is the worst thing mankind has ever done, but there's still gonna be people out there who like the series. You can state only your opinion, and nothing more. -

...So apparently anime CAN be popular in America, but only in the form of live action remakes? I'm genuinely confused as to how this is something that is gonna happen. I mean, I can see Cowboy Bebop, or even Dragon Ball Z live action. But One Piece? It just strikes me as something too... fantastical, I guess would be the word, to effectively make a live action series about. It's obvious this will suck. There's no doubt about this. And somewhere out there Moose is about to be arrested for multiple homicides.

It makes sense, at least from their perspective. Super is their new big show, and they want the most exposure for it, in a relatively primetime slot. As long as Super gets exposure they don't care about the rest of the block. Unfortunately for them, that doesn't seem to be happening, anyway. It's hard to say if Super sucks in ratings right now because people don't like it, or because it's split into two showings. Regardless, if Super doesn't do well, there's nothing stopping Toei from not offering the contract back up when it's time to renew it. We very well could be looking at a Dragon Ball free 2018. -

Of course it isn't smart. I can't think of any reason Toonami would air the premiere of a show earlier in the night unannounced unless they were contractually obligated to. I wonder if there's any sort of stipulation that dictates that Dragon Ball Super must air on Saturday... otherwise I see no reason why they haven't moved the show back yet. My god these are terrible ratings. It been rare to see a non-marathon night of Toonami where absolutely nothing gets at least 1 mil. I'm also pretty surprised by the lack of retention between DB Super and DBZ Kai. Of all the shows on the block, you'd think the retention would be the best between those two shows. Perhaps the US is finally tired out of Dragon Ball Z? Or maybe the audience for Super just isn't the same audience that watches DBZ Kai. Regardless, I think it's time for another show to move into the lead spot on the block. Could JoJo do the job? After the ratings from last season, I'd be wary, to say the least. If they were to shuffle the schedule with JoJo, I'd imagine this to be there best bet: 11:30 PM: DBZ Kai 12:00 AM: Stardust Crusaders 12:30 AM: Hunter × Hunter 1:00 AM: Lupin The 3rd 1:30 AM: Tokyo Ghoul 2:00 AM: Dragon Ball Super 2:30 AM: Naruto: Shippuden 3:00 AM: Ghost In The Shell HD It's time to give DBZ Kai a chance at the front of the block. I don't know how much better it can do, but if it pulls at least 1 million a week, it's better than Super. As the new premiere, JoJo gets 12:00. HxH seems to have pretty good retention, so that goes next. That also loads all the shonen up at the front of the block. Lupin III gets bumped up because I think it at least deserves a shot in a better timeslot. I'd imagine Ghoul would do best moving from a show that's at least semi-realistic, hence it coming after Lupin. Then we have a encore of the 8 PM Super premiere, because if they have to have the 8:00 showing, they might as well treat the Toonami showing as a rerun.
