Funny you should mention the "Manipulate The Manual" event, because guess what we got out of that? Hellsing Ultimate, an OVA show that did great at first, well, great for 3 AM, averaging 859.5K total viewers and 492.5K adults 18-49 in its first 2 weeks in September 2014. But it fell into mediocrity following the Beware the Batman event despite a move up to 2 AM, and then for its ultimate episode X at midnight despite a promising penultimate episode the week before, it shattered the record for the lowest ratings for a Toonami show for 12-1:30, 591K total viewers, a record that has stood...until now. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders' 595K might be higher, but when you average in Tokyo Ghoul's 548K, you get 571.5K. We don't yet know what Hunter x Hunter's rating is, but it would take a huge uptick to a whopping 630K to tie Hellsing Ultimate X, and Hunter x Hunter just hasn't gotten numbers like those since being bumped abruptly to 1 AM. Fortunately, Hellsing Ultimate X only got 289K 18-49, and both JoJo and Ghoul were well above 300K last Saturday night, so it would take a bomb of a Hunter x Hunter episode to blast the demographic below the bomb that was HU X. -

Sorry, but I don't think that's right. Expanding on DBS's success at 8:30 by adding an hour of action programming and calling the block "Toonami Prime" or something like that from 8-10 would seem to be a decent idea though. I would move Kai down to 9 PM then follow with something like Fairy Tail or maybe even HxH at 9:30. Then rotating comedy 10-11, Family Guy at 11, and "Toonami Beyond" begins at Midnight with JoJo. But I wouldn't do something like that until 2018, especially since we might be losing that 8 PM hour soon with Dragon Ball Super premieres winding up at 9 PM. -
Toonami Weekly Marathon Stream 2017 Archive & Updates
OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I did, and there was no reply. I don't believe it was a coincidence--I believe it was by design. However, it does beg the question as to why they never did anything like this before, unless maybe you count the KLK marathon that happened on the Stream right before they lost the rights to it back in February, which they inexplicably did not repeat for SAO beyond playing Episodes 1-10. But going forward, it shows promise. For example, it would be wise to play Gundam IBO episodes #16-#25 on the Stream in the first week of October leading up to Season 2's premiere on Toonami TV. Hopefully the 9/9 and 9/16 schedules which are shrouded in mystery will be revealed soon. It also seems we're not losing double DBS at 8 PM anytime soon! -

JoJo dropped 24% of Kai in total viewers and adults 18-49, and 20% in adults 18-34, but it would seem the drop from Rick & Morty to the Tim & Eric special was way worse: T&E shed 65% in total viewers, 69% in Adults 18-49, and 63% in Adults 18-34, even though both beat anything Adult Swim/Toonami premieres were able to do on Saturday. -

Too bad that advantage disappears when you look at traditional Nielsen ratings: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-8-26-2017.html 8/26/2017 Dragon Ball Super (8:30) #16 (-10) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.35 Estimated 18-34 - 238,000 ( 35.05% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.28 Estimated 18-49 - 359,000 ( 52.87% ) Total Viewers - 679,000 8/26/2017 DBZ Kai: Final Chapters #5 (-1) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.45 Estimated 18-34 - 306,000 ( 39.28% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.37 Estimated 18-49 - 474,000 ( 60.85% ) Total Viewers - 779,000 8/26/2017 JJBA: Stardust Crusaders - #13 (-6) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.36 Estimated 18-34 - 245,000 ( 41.18% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.28 Estimated 18-49 - 359,000 ( 60.34% ) Total Viewers - 595,000 8/26/2017 Tokyo Ghoul - #21 (-12) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.32 Estimated 18-34 - 217,000 ( 39.60% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.25 Estimated 18-49 - 321,000 ( 58.58% ) Total Viewers - 548,000 8/26/2017 Lupin the 3rd - #49 (-25) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.26 Estimated 18-34 - 177,000 ( 39.51% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.21 Estimated 18-49 - 269,000 ( 60.04% ) Total Viewers - 448,000 YUCK!! This is why we've got some kind of a shake-up coming on 9/9, it would seem! Couple of interesting things going on here though: Mayweather vs. McGregor: Post-Fight on Fox Sports 1 was in a dead heat with Dragon Ball Super on Uniques of Social Content Ratings, only being edged out by the Toonami show due to Interactions. But it's 18-49 rating? A mere 0.16 and #68. Meanwhile, it was actually FS1's competitor, ESPN's SportsCenter, that reaped the benefits. It may have been an additive effect due to the fight and some low-level College Football games, but it and its cousin on ESPN2 enfeebled Toonami in most of its key timeslots (12 AM-3:06 AM). Despite all that, it seems low-rated College Football games lost to Dragon Ball Super at 8:30 and DBZ KFC at 11:30. Therefore, we may conclude that the influx of viewers to ESPN and ESPN2 after the fight was largely driven by the fight. Second, note the rare number of slots that made the Top 50 for the Weather Channel. That is, of course, attributable to Hurricane Harvey, as constant coverage managed to crack the Top 50 a whopping 10 times (Weather Center Live). However, unlike the perfect social storm that happened 2 weeks ago that brought CNN and Fox News to the forefront, Lupin actually made the Top 50 at #49. Nonetheless, this isn't normal, but with this happening for the 2nd time in 3 weeks, and lower numbers throughout the month of August even than the already low numbers seen in July: the message is clear -- Toonami must accept or adapt. -

It looks like it's going to be #36 "Charge" (Season 2, Episode 11). I still have #31-#35 (Season 2, Episodes 6-10) on my DVR so its not a biggie for me, and it also means we're likely to see #37 "Scream" (Season 2, Episode 12) on 9/9, finally in HD for DirecTv customers (as the first run glitched). They actually did something right with the marathon stream for a change: they're showing #31-#35 all this week. With a surprising rerun skip to #36 on-air, I guess this is the best they could do. I would say (for whatever reason) 9/9 will be the last 9-show Toonami for a while, and on 9/16 DBS returns to 11:30. Hopefully the good performers keep their timeslots and only certain shows (like JoJo and Lupin) are moved down. And it looks like the AOT S2 final run count will likely be: #26-#30: 3 runs each (premiere, marathon, rerun) #31-#34: 2 runs each (premiere, marathon) #35: 1 run (premiere only) #36-#37: 2 runs each (premiere, rerun) Kinda bummed that #35 only got on TV once, but I guess that's the way it goes. After all, MOST Toonami episodes are 1-and-done on TV! There has been no 2nd chance on Toonami TV for any episode of Samurai 7, Tenchi Muyo! GXP, Soul Eater, Blue Exorcist, Black Lagoon, Gurren Lagann, Hellsing Ultimate, Sword Art Online (I or II), InuYasha: The Final Act, Dimension W, Gundam Unicorn, Naruto Shippuden or Tokyo Ghoul, and it appears Lupin will probably suffer the same fate. -

Before we get to this week's Top 10, I would like to revisit the first Top 10 in the recent era, from 7/29/17: I honestly probably should have put Tokyo Ghoul a bit higher, maybe #8 or #7. And maybe JoJo was actually #1 with Lupin #3? But enough about that. Now I give you THIS week's Top 10: #10: Tokyo Ghoul - Coffee! Coffee! COFFEE!! COVFEFE!!! #9: Naruto - Once again, no "Shippuden" here!! #8: Samurai Jack - All hope really IS lost now!! #7: Dragon Ball Super - Jaco & Bulma go WAY back, apparently! #6: Dragon Ball Z Kai - A ray of hope shines as Kibito and Gohan are restored! #5: Attack on Titan - Beautiful snowy flashback and Eren's first ODM Kill, then wipeout! #4: Hunter x Hunter - Nice to see things finally start to get serious again!! #3: Lupin the 3rd - A rare Goemon-centric episode, and more bloody than usual! #2: Outlaw Star - No, Jim, it wasn't what you thought it was!! #1: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders - The Party of 5 is now complete!! -
