The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
OwlChemist81 replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I mean in RANKINGS. Last week, Toonami really did about as good as it has been lately; however, the invasion of all the news programs for the Charlottesville event had an effect and knocked Lupin off the Top 50. And trending? Well, like 6 of the Top 10 were concerning current events all night so Toonami barely stood a chance! -

All eyes on Boston right now--well as a figure of speech. As long as nothing horrific happens there like what happened in Charlottesville last weekend, I think Toonami still will do fine in ratings/trending. -

Outlaw Star in HD on August 19th
OwlChemist81 replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
It is dumb as fuck that Outlaw Star didn't get 2 AM or hell, even 1:30, if Lupin is doing crap numbers and Shit-Puddn' is taking a hard left turn into filler hell! But hopefully in the meantime it anchors the end of the block! -

Outlaw Star in HD on August 19th
OwlChemist81 replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I believe this is worthy of individual threads. It's been almost 15 YEARS since it's been on CN/AS, after all! But that's just my opinion... -

Toonami Weekly Marathon Stream 2017 Archive & Updates
OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Well, the stream has advanced to Episodes 16-20, but it seems to be stuck in a loop on 20. If we ever get out of this, enjoy! As for me, guess I'm moving on to a rewatch of 21-26 on my DVR!! Edit: turns out it was just MY stream that was screwed up somehow. I was able to refresh and get it right! By then the battle of Caesar and Wamuu had already passed but I still have it on my DVR! -

Actually, last week a lot more WOMEN watched it than men in 18-34, in fact about 2/3 more, but the reverse was true of 35-49 so that women 18-49 just barely edged out men 18-49. http://programminginsider.com/ratings/final-nationals/saturday-final-nationals-ae-hallmark-adult-swim-benefit-night/ In light of this, I'm really not sure College Football will hurt Live PD all that much, but I guess we'll see. Closer to home on this thread topic, this why Toonami needs to acquire a show that appeals more to women such as Sailor Moon Crystal. If Boruto isn't quite ready yet, that would make a decent replacement for DBZ Kai next year! -
Netflix trying to murder Toonami

Not quite. This ANN user (who I swear is not me ) also raised the same question! http://www.animenewsnetwork.cc/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3071265&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 (3rd from the bottom) -
The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board

It's actually rather inconclusive, but it DOES seem to have had an impact the last 2 years. In 2015, September and October were weaker than the red-hot summer months, and ditto in 2016 after OPM ended and JoJo took over. But that might be more attributable to the shows than the competition. However, actually I was hypothesizing that LIVE PD would be more affected by College Football than Toonami. I believe College Football will have more overlap with Live PD's audience than [as]/Toonami's audience. Hell, College Football might even be such a factor that they turn Saturday nights back over to reruns of Live PD during football season. There's no way to know for sure since Live PD's first Saturday broadcast was February 4th, at which point the only football game left is the Super Bowl. However, it seems to be holding up just fine against NFL Preseason so they might just keep on truckin' with it since it's probably pretty inexpensive to produce. But like I said, some years Toonami has done worse in the fall and some it has done better. The hype of Intruder 2 sent ratings skyward again in November 2015, for example. But Intruder 3 failed to provide the same boost the following year. With the exception of Samurai Jack, 2017 has been in free-fall decline as well, hitting lows for shows this summer that would have been unthinkable even in bad summers like 2014's. In conclusion, I'm thinking that College Football will probably have little to no effect on Toonami this year. -
Netflix trying to murder Toonami
OwlChemist81 replied to MasqueradeOverture's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Partially by force, but Samurai Jack and FLCL is clearly just the beginning! I feel in the future we may see Toonami co-produce new Outlaw Star, new Hunter x Hunter, hell maybe even new Gundam or new JoJo Part 5! They're claiming their stake on certain franchises, that even though there's not doing so hot in the ratings right now, a co-pro with them might change their fate in the future! -
Netflix trying to murder Toonami
OwlChemist81 replied to MasqueradeOverture's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Yeah, they've certainly got deeper pockets than Turner, that's for sure. That said, sometimes good relationships go further than money. Just look at what Toonami classics [as] has been able to bring back, plus co-productions like FLCL for examples of this. Netflix will get a huge slice of the pie, but they can't completely block Turner/Toonami from getting their slice as well. It WILL be a much smaller slice, and that's fine. Toonami can't beat Netflix, but they're not trying to--only to keep pace with them! -

I honestly still don't know if he's really gone or if this is just one big hoax. It's quite frustrating. But lately I've been thinking "where in the hell did Toonami's biggest threat Live PD even COME from?" I figured it was a fairly recent thing, and I was right. It never even aired on Saturdays, opting instead only for Fridays and occasional Thursdays until 2/4/2017. And its numbers have just continued skyward on a positive trajectory since assuming its current Friday/Saturday format, as you can see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_PD Meanwhile, with the exception of Samurai Jack, Toonami's ratings have been dwindling, and yet it still remains king in 18-34. But how much longer will that go on? And how much higher can Live PD rise? I'm thinking College Football will deliver a HUGE blow to Live PD this fall but it, like Toonami, will keep on going. And meanwhile, Toonami will be affected to a lesser degree. -
Wow. Unbelievable. And we STILL don't know for sure. Well, guess I'll just follow this thread and see how it develops. But assuming the worst, and hoping I'm wrong, RIP Luuv. Also, how ironic is it that this news hits the week JJBA Episode 20, in which Caesar Zeppeli dies, plays on the Toonami Stream? [This ain't the summer of Luuv anymore. R.I.P.]

Wow, you're correct! BTW, The "better" schedule at http://adultswim.x10.mx/ has a gap on 9/2 from 11-4 AM. Could they REALLY be planning a marathon of the first 10 episodes of Lupin the 3rd: Part 4?? Unrelated to Toonami, Rick & Morty is getting a marathon of the first 6 episodes of Season 3 from 11 PM-2 AM on 9/3 that repeats from 2-5 AM! -
I hope not! Too busy on IRL duties, maybe? But I'll keep this in mind...

I think one interesting potential twist they might try at some point in the future would be to move the 11 PM hour to the 9 PM hour and let comedy have 10-midnight. But I personally wouldn't like to see that because I'm rarely at home at 9/8C on Saturdays. Sports events always seem to take precedence in that hour. Hell, I rarely watched the 8 PM premieres, and I still haven't seen an 8:30 DBS premiere on anything but my smartphone. I wonder if JoJo would be tame enough for 9 PM encores leading-in to Rick & Morty? But it's probably a moot point because DBS will most likely be forced back to a half-hour at 9 PM (and no more "3-peats") when CN inevitably claims their extra hour this fall. On that note, we're only 17 days away from September 2nd, the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, and we still don't know what marathon Toonami intends to air then! I'm thinking DBS will get rare 4th (and sometimes even 5th) episode runs, though Kai would be nice since it would contain that July 22nd episode that got screwed with on DirecTv, and would ultimately give us a chance to re-record everything that got screwed up. Tokyo Ghoul and Lupin the 3rd are lower-rated so they seem like longshots. But as bad as JoJo's been doing after Kai, I would still pencil it in for the Halloween marathon this year (Oct. 28). After all, it will have 12 episodes out then, but perhaps more importantly, Episode 4, the one coming up this weekend and first of the Egypt trip, would begin the marathon! Back to September 2nd, another longshot would be for Toonami to finally air the DBZ movies from 2013 and 2015 that the most recent arcs of Super were based upon, but considering that we haven't heard anything about that yet, I'm assuming that's probably not in the cards.
