  1. I really would like to see how something that is NOT Dragonball would do at 11 PM in a normal lineup, which it looks like we're only gonna have to wait 4 months to see. Somehow I have a feeling Re:Zero could hold Super better.
  2. No, it's the date of when THOSE episodes that aired on Toonami on Saturday night were aired in Japan. Obviously, if I was doing what you suggested, DBS and Clover would both be "2018". I was somewhat off for DBZ KFC and Cowboy Bebop, though. You are right about the franchises though. Besides Black Clover, the most recent franchise on the block is Space Dandy. That sounds pretty bad, but consider that most of the new Marvel movies are based on characters Stan Lee created in the 1960s. So ancient franchises really aren't such a bad thing. But if we are going to get something like Re:Zero, that would be a welcome change. And of course Tokyo Ghoul: Re would actually bring back a newer franchise than Dandy.
  3. Turns out that wasn't a fluke, because as of Tuesday afternoon, the stream has actually fully switched to some late episodes of Lupin the 3rd! It appears to be Episodes 17-21, but the stream may advance to 22-26 tomorrow night? I doubt it, but if there's any week it would be nice to see that come back, it's this week. At least it's likely that 22-26 may show at some point in the future if not. It seems Episode 17 also has some bugs. Most of the video plays about 5 seconds slower than the audio, so that the whole thing is out of sync.
  4. I stand corrected. Star Blazers 2199 actually aired in Japan in 2013. That said, it still would be most fitting between Shippuden and Space Dandy when Outlaw Star ends. However, as a direct replacement for Lupin at 1:30, it also would have been fine. But having Space Dandy now complicates things so I say if that IS the show, bring it on at 2 AM after Shippuden.
  5. I didn't notice that at all! Edit: WOW--but that wasn't the case yesterday!
  6. You could say watching Toonami on TV is like listening to the radio as opposed to Pandora or Spotify. People still do it, but it's not the "new thing" so millennials are less pre-disposed to watch it than the late Gen-X'ers (like me) who grew up with it. Guess that's one of the main reasons they got semi-capable streaming in 2015 even if it's feeble and in fact a pale shadow of what it used to be except on weekends. As for the age of the shows on Toonami as produced in Japan, well as of last week, when JoJo moved forward considerably, here's what we have now for the most recently aired block: DBS - 2016 DBZKFC - 2015* Black Clover - 2017 JoJo: SC BE - 2015 Gundam IBO - 2017 HxH - 2013 Shippuden - 2010 Outlaw Star - 1998 Space Dandy - 2014 Cowboy Bebop - 1999 GITS: SAC 2nd Gig - 2004 *This show is a remaster with much older animation, from 1995. Additionally, DBS, DBZKFC, JoJo: SC BE, Gundam IBO, and HxH are dub premieres. Finally, since yesterday was Presidents' Day, ratings will not be available until tomorrow.
  7. Legal issues could be anything. I'm willing to bet it's not Megas XLR. I'm thinking probably Star Blazers 2199. Yes, I do believe he actually mentioned it at some point during Pre-Flight.
  8. Yeah, I'm still thinking it's probably Star Blazers 2199. If that's the case, replacing Outlaw Star with it would make perfect sense, especially if O.S. remains at 2 AM. It would be a space opera replacing a space opera. It also was produced in 2011, making it about as old as the current episodes of Shippuden (2010), so it can stay ahead of it for thematic similarities with Dandy and Bebop.
  9. Black Butler would be nice for Toonami. But it's in licensing hell since Aniplex decided not to let FUNimation renew their license to Season 1.
  10. Oh yeah, of COURSE Part 1 was an ode to Dracula, despite the fact that JJBA vampires can suck blood through their claws and not just their fangs, which makes them even more terrifying! And of course I caught the similarities to Nightmare on Elm Street in Death 13's mini-arc!
  11. Wait, we've seen this before... Boy, if Toonami does get this, their rageboner for not picking up Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga is hard as diamond!
  12. Really now?? Black Clover AGAIN!?! They're really trying to shove this series down our throats! And it's just Pages 1-5 again. I get that the first time it was supposed to play got screwed on Monday, but why spam it AGAIN just 2 weeks later?! But I did just notice that in Pages 4 & 5, Sekke gets whacked in the nuts pretty good!
  13. It's a stretch, but then again, this IS the same company who handed out exactly 1,337 piracy lawsuits a while back. So don't put anything past them. Besides, you can't deny it wouldn't be bad paired with Black Clover!
  14. Since Black Clover Pages 1-5 have for some ungodly reason found their way back to the Toonami stream, this week might also be a great chance to rewatch episodes 6-10. Also, I have a strange feeling that Toonami will opt for a marathon on St. Patrick's Day and the show they marathon will be Black Clover, but I kinda hope I'm wrong. But I digress. Here's the review of Page 10: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/black-clover/episode-10/.124882 TL,DR: Rating - B+
  15. After all, he ended up with Android 18, whom we're PRETTY sure has a vagina, right?
  16. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but a summer debut for Part 1 on home video just seems to scream dub premiere on Toonami! https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-02-17/funimation-announces-re-zero-home-video-release/.127900 What's even more interesting is the time this story was posted: Exactly 22:00 EST on a Saturday night, which of course corresponds to 23:00 EDT, as Daylight Savings Time would be in effect this summer. Could we be talking about DBZ Kai's replacement here?? Some are saying it might be FLCL but I'm "fully-cooly" expecting that to be a 10 PM expansion show! As for Re:Zero, could make a great pairing with Black Clover for a "Dark Fantasy" hour at 11 PM Saturday nights!
  17. Oh yeah, I never even considered all the Stephen King references! But they seem to be something that's limited mainly to Part 3 and perhaps going forward. I didn't notice them as pronouncedly in Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency, for instance. But it could also be a nod to horror-centered literature from those time frames as well? Consider that Part 3 and so forth are modern, whereas Part 1 contained references to 19th Century literature, and Part 2 contained references to World War II era literature and film (such as Ben Hur). But maybe I'm reading into this too much; after all, not a peep from Edgar Allan Poe in Phantom Blood...
  18. I think the Major is like late 30's in the main timeframe of the show, which means she's early 20's at this point.
  19. Holy crap, check out the Tumblr: http://www.toonami.tumblr.com/
  20. "Man, I really hate theme parks." One show left: GITS!
