Dragon Ball Super Episode 77 Discussion
OwlChemist81 replied to Meilag32's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
This episode will be interesting, as it will be using a new OP, ED, and more importantly, a more muted art style, as you can probably tell from the promo! Dragon Ball Super only has one season, but you might say at this point we're in the 2nd half of the show! -
Last Saturday's Live+3 ratings are in, and they're really interesting... http://programminginsider.com/live3-weekly-ratings-american-woman-leads-all-telecasts-among-adults-18-49-percentage-gains/ My Hero Academia (R) (ADSM, Sat., 8/18/18 10:00 PM) • Live+Same Day: 0.567 million viewers / 0.307 million adults 18-49 (0.24 adults 18-49 rating) • Live+3 Day: 0.664 million viewers (+0.097M; +17.11%) / 0.348 million adults 18-49 (0.27 adults 18-49 rating) (+0.041M; +0.03 rating; +13.36%) Dragon Ball Super (ADSM, Sat., 8/18/18 10:30 PM) • Live+Same Day: 0.705 million viewers / 0.416 million adults 18-49 (0.32 adults 18-49 rating) • Live+3 Day: 1.012 million viewers (+0.307M; +43.55%) / 0.622 million adults 18-49 (0.48 adults 18-49 rating) (+0.206M; +0.16 rating; +49.52%) MHA didn't get much of a boost, but DBS DID, and probably more of one than usual, because it's had a little trouble cracking a million lately. Also, nearly DOUBLE as many 18-49s watched DBS eventually as did MHA! It will be interesting to see if this trend continues!

But we still get the same OP, right?? So it will look kinda like Kai from here on out??? Maybe that'll actually be good for ratings?? -

Actually, it WAS shortened. It's just that the short version only lacks about 15 seconds that's in the full version! -
Crazy prediction involving Dragon Ball Super
OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
They also made it clear they probably weren't expanding from 3.5 hours permanently, but yeah, somehow that does seem less likely, UNLESS they air Miyazaki movies once again, and they CAN since they're now all under the same GKIDS umbrella they got Mind Game from, not the House of Mouse. But I'd say a whole month is unlikely, although by today's standards even Month of Movies II was a juggernaught! -
Believe it or not, it wasn't me! I don't remember who it was, but it was first mentioned on the old ASMB. Well, this episode wasn't exactly a true dub premiere, since it was in theaters. I guess that had an effect. Next week's WILL be, but we do have to suffer through a rerun of this episode first, which just MIGHT do better in the ratings, so yay? Yeah, FLCL Alternative should help--except that in an interesting twist the Pre-Flight channel actually leaked the first episode online DUBBED. So it WON'T be a dub premiere either--and of course it also got sneak-previewed on April 1 in subtitles, so we pretty much have to wait until September 15th for that effect to kick in--but through yet another twist of fate, since the FLCL Alternative movie screens in theaters in Japan in early September, those won't actually be world premieres, but just dub premieres. Of course on September 29th BORUTO arrives, and THAT should be good.

One last one for the night: Monday's Dragon Ball Super and American Dad (lead-out) ratings: http://programminginsider.com/monday-final-ratings-original-telecast-of-mtv-video-music-awards-sinks-to-a-22-year-low-in-total-viewers/ Dragon Ball Super (repeat) (ADSM, 8:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.363 million viewers (#88) • 0.25 HH (#85) • 0.14 A18-49 (#76) • 0.13 A18-34 (#54) • 0.12 A25-54 (#95) American Dad (repeat) (ADSM, 8:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.425 million viewers (#83) • 0.30 HH (#73) • 0.18 A18-49 (#56) • 0.20 A18-34 (#34) • 0.16 A25-54 (#76) Week 8 starts out with a pretty resounding thud, with the lowest number of total viewers yet for a weeknight DBS episode and a tie for the lowest 18-34 number yet. Plus American Dad grew on it significantly in every category. Ouch; I guess that's just what happens when you go up against the VMAs.

Ok, so the first part isn't so crazy: Dragon Ball Super as we now know it will air new episodes on Toonami for a total of 3 years. It has a total of 131 episodes, and last year we finished with Episode 44. That leaves 87 episodes, but we may get as high as 90 this year, which only leaves 41 for next year. It will be interesting to see how they compensate for that. One possibility is a December 2019 return of the Month of Movies, which would logically feature the TV premiere of the new Broly movie. But that's not certain either. It could also be that new episodes air internationally in January 2020, starting with a TV cut of the new Broly movie, then advancing to all-new episodes of Dragon Ball Super by April. There is also "Dragon Ball Heroes". It will be interesting to see if that comes to Toonami.

Man, the "Unholy Megabomb" back in December 2014 looks fantastic compared to this epic fail! And yet, THIS time I seriously doubt there will be any adverse effect on the block. 10-4 is here to stay, baby! But pre-Toonami, the shows being re-arranged, yeah, I COULD see that. But I don't know what the hell they're gonna do when they lose the Cleveland Show in a month or two! I suppose I could see Bob's Burgers x2 at 8 at Family Guy x2 at 9 leading-in to MHA. You could argue that BB is needed elsewhere, but they gotta do something like that. More originals or even Toonami reruns on weeknights would lead to lower ratings, but it may be the only answer.
