When Kubo said his favorite male characters are Aizen and Mayuri (I think he said Rangiku and Yoruichi are his favorite female characters), it explained a lot.  He doesn't want to kill off Mayuri because of that, even if it's warranted?

Naw but scenes like this were definitely used to soften Mayuri, from a psychotically evil mad scientist to wacky comedic mad scientist. 

I'm still not sure he gained any humanity tonight though haha.
