SwimOdin
It’s still being supported at all levels and is more than likely holding back a lot of game developers (because of having to make less impressive last-gen versions). So…will PS4 ever die, and is that a bad thing?
[classic swim]
Current-Gen consoles have to have a purpose and reason for sale before Last-Gen’s in jeopardy of anything. The motivation to get a “new console” is absent compared to when PS4 released.
Raptorpat
I'm fine with lifespans and dev times increasing, I consume much less content than 20 years ago and the previous couple consoles seemed to just kinda fly by me without feeling like I got my money's worth. MasqueradeOverture
Blame the Pandemic. Really, that's all it comes down to. The PS5 didn't really start hitting the common household until 3 years after its launch thanks to cost and chip supply issues. That and with game fidelity being what it is on THIS system and the "Pro" upgrade only just coming out next year, I wouldn't expect any next gen consoles before 2029. Though when the Pro version does come out next year, that's when Sony and any other streaming/app companies are gonna cut support for PS4. RollFizzlebeef
I hope not. I love my PS4. I do need to get a PS5 soon, but not too soon.
SwimOdin
The graphical leaps aren’t generational anymore and it feels like we all still want it to, even developers, and it’s starting to feel unhealthy for the industry. We’re going to hit a technological wall soon with fidelity.
PenguinBoss
Hoping that means companies will focus on more than the pores on a character's face.

André Toulon
The PS5 pro has no business costing close to a stack. And the amount of console games slowly turning into gachas with their battle passes and absurd micro transactions for basic bullshit is just a testament to the industry becoming greedy AF. I am not going to play SF6 every day just to get rewards and I'm definitely not paying 20 bucks for premium rewards like store coins, league points and the Baki emote pack. CoD is doing the same shit apparently and I hear the same is for the new Warhammer. It made sense on games like Warframe since it was free to play...of course there's premium content that you need to spend money for....but paying $70 and up for a game only to find out there's about $150 in content you need to buy just to have all the stages is diabolical. It's not even DLC to expand the game ...it's base game bullshit that you are forced to pay for just to have the complete game. Imagine going to buy a car, but it doesn't come with tires or the steering wheel. The sad part being that despite the complaints, I doubt it will ever cease. RIP gaming 2032.
