WASHINGTON — Amid tensions in the Middle East, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was hospitalized, including spending four days in the intensive care unit, according to two senior administration officials.

The Pentagon did not inform senior officials in the White House’s National Security Council of Austin’s hospitalization until Thursday — three days after he arrived at Walter Reed Medical Center, a U.S. official confirms. Politico first reported the delay.

Is this standard, and if not, why hide it?

He is only 6th in line to the Presidency itself so not being immediately forthcoming about the hospitalization is unusual but not necessarily super bad. He likely wasn't expecting any complications at all otherwise they would have already been aware of his hospital visit to begin with and the silence wouldn't have made the news at all.

He went to the hospital and didn't tell anyone. I have an aunt that does that.

Hell, I do that all the time. I tend to wait until I'm heading into the hospital itself before sending a quick text just in case.

If I give anyone too much of a head's up, I end up with a bunch of weirdos in the recovery room.

Austin was hospitalized for complications following treatment for prostate cancer

UPDATED JANUARY 9, 20244:04 PM ET

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was treated for prostate cancer, which was identified last month, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center said in a statement, and complications from that procedure led to his hospitalization on New Year's Day. The White House said President Biden was only informed that Austin had prostate cancer Tuesday morning.

Lloyd Austin’s ‘Spin Doctors’ Should Stop Their Spin

Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Kenneth Israel

"Let’s just say the “E” word: Enough. We Americans need to stop making things up. In one of the latest egregious examples, who is behind the crazy excuses regarding Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s unavailability and his not telling the White House his whereabouts for several days during his recent hospitalization?

It is not “just fine” that Austin took responsibility for the lapse in notification, or that he wanted to protect his privacy. Simply put, the well-being and whereabouts of our Secretary of Defense matter greatly to a nuclear-powered and nuclear-vulnerable nation. In such an instance, personal preferences must come second to duty. What if an emergency had occurred while Austin was undergoing surgery? Neither President Biden nor Austin’s deputy, Kathleen Hicks, reportedly knew about his medical procedure; she was on vacation at the time."

Hes not wrong. Austin went AWOL during a time of high tensions in the Middle East, and when we also launched a strike.

Lol.  It’s enough only when a Democrat does it, especially when he’s facing the extremely scary prospect of cancer.
