As a chef, how often if ever did the customer bypass the server to personally tip you?

When I was a short order cook, there were regulars that would come into the kitchen to tip the cooks separately.

Depended on the establishment. Some places in Vegas I was tipped nightly by customers. Other places I never got a tip working in the back of the house.

I think its important to say before i eat, i get cash to tip the person that served me only...if they add it to a jar for everyone, then thats on them....but i never leave a card tip.

I feel like thats just asking for someone else to get it

I have the same complex about tipping, but depending on what the service is, i.e. my waitress hauling my order over all fast and throwing refills at me, or a bartender that's got my back with drinks/ police. I'll tip and make it fat even if you went out of your way for me otherwise why am I paying you to do your job?
