ITN: Blinded by the White?

Synopsis: Purdue University has produced a paint so white it reflects 98.1% of the Sun's rays (and the infrared that go along for the ride).  It is possible that a building painted with the stuff may not need air conditioning.

I can see a lot of issues - imagine every building on your street reflecting 98.1% of the Sun's rays...and reflecting the rays bouncing off the other buildings painted with the stuff...and you step outside without eye or skin protection.  What happens to the plants in the area?  What happens to vehicles painted black?  To blacktop asphalt?  To tires?

It would only be painted on roofs.  It's not an uncommon practice.

I’m so white I often don’t need the AC in my house either

*badumtiss*

seriously though in the pic it doesn’t look any whiter. Maybe if I could see it next to another shade of white? 😬

That's why we need to allow brothels to operate, so there are black holes to absorb all the excess heat from the concrete, cars, etc..

Is that supposed to be a joke?

I'm aware, but recent & past events show that people tend to carry things well beyond their intended use.

It's not that kind of paint.  You can't paint your walls with something like that.

Useful white sunglasses?  No one will see anything at all.  Or white paint sun screen?  People walking around flashing each other, who can't see each other?  There's no end to the possibilities! tsar4, you're a fucking genius!

No, it's a coating, not a paint.  You can't coat walls with it and expect it to actually cover like a paint would.
