Choosing to make fanfiction while suffering from writer’s block

I have ideas for original stories, but while I suffer from writer’s block on the outlines for those, I’m writing fan fiction instead. I’m already a couple chapters in, but when you have pre-existing characters, I guess it all comes naturally. It’s good practice, but I also just want to write smut.

Does anyone else do this?

I write ideas for jokes, but never write the jokes

it's not a perfect system, but it's the only one I have

They say work on your characters, not the big plot, so that does make fan fics much easier.
