It feels so good to sleep at night again

Rigjt?

I did overnights for five years.  I've been on a swing shift starting at 1 for a couple of months now.

I forgot what not being constantly sleep deprived felt like.

I'm working swing shift too. I love it thus far.

I haaaaaaaated when I worked 2-10pm's. Worst year and a half of my life. I'll never work anything that's not a 9-5 or something along those lines again.

Oh, I love working 2-10pm. As long as I can sleep when it's dark at night, I'm good.

I think you're overreacting. I've been doing 2:30 to 11's for just over 2 years now.

My routine being after I get home at 11, I'll typically be up til 2-3am, that's around 3-4 hours right there, and I try to be up by 10am, which gives me around 4 hours there. So I'm able to get an average of 7 hours of free time during the weekdays.

Yeah I kept the same schedule and I hated it. Just did not work for me at all. I'm not saying it doesn't work for some people but I personally would never do that shit again. It probably didn't help that I also had unpredictable days off, hated the job in general, and had a partner who had work/school on a more traditional schedule. But the hours just suuuuucked for me.

it works for me, that said though if I had kids it wouldn't. In the first couple of years it'd work out well enough, but by the time they're going to school aside from brief moments I likely wouldn't see them much Monday through Friday. If I wanted a day job my only real choice is to go for a lead shift job, which does pay a bit more, but I'd have to come in briefly on the weekends and any day that we're off, that not counting as overtime since it's in our contract. Aside from that if I wanted a day job I'd have to work like 10 years just to have enough seniority for a chance at a day job that isn't a lead position.
