OwlChemist81
By now, the news is everywhere that Genndy Tartakovsky's PRIMAL will NOT be on Toonami--but instead will be a weeknight miniseries, but it does represent Adult Swim's first real foray into placing premieres of an action-forward show on weeknights in a long time. Could it be a trial run to see how other action programming fares on weeknights, and perhaps even to brand it as "Toonami Midnight Run" by 2020? Currently, Toonami is showing some great shows really late at night, and having access to a Midnight Run hour for older shows (NOT reruns) to air on weeknight strips as they did from 2000-2003 would remedy that. It would also be useful if a show has been dubbed for a while in order to catch up to a more recent season, as is the case with Food Wars!. And of course a weeknight Naruto Shippuden has been a dream happening for a long time, since those last 230-something episodes will take YEARS to get through otherwise! And of course One Piece not being on weeknights at least initially to catch up to the dub might be what ultimately doomed it. Jman
Genndy was rather adamant about NOT being connected to Toonami. So no.
The1gairon
We knew PRIMAL wouldn't be on Toonami before this week. Genndy expressed his desire for his next show to be on Adult Swim during Samurai Jack Season 5's run.
korosu
thinking ahead when all we have is American Dad!, anime makes more sense between 8 and 10 pm, if adult swim will continue to occupy those hours.

OwlChemist81
Genndy probably could have had Family Guy as a lead-in if he'd gotten PRIMAL on Toonami. Now he's gonna get Rick & Morty and I guess Supermansion between FG and PRIMAL. Will this move pay off? Probably not... Then again, there IS one X-Factor: will [as] lose the 8 PM hour in October? If so, and everything moves back an hour, as I suspect it might, PRIMAL would be directly led-into by Family Guy! CountFrylock
i don't get this idea where people assume the average family guy viewer is gonna stick around for something that is nothing like family guy let's not forget that nielsen ratings target so few people that Something like Primal is even more obscure
DangerMouse
Yeah I think it's weird since the average family guy fan is likely more of the typical "adult swim viewer" likely looking for more of those kinds of comedy shows rather than a "Toonami viewer" who's looking for action animation. Either way, looking forward to checking this out when the time comes. Edited September 1, 2019 by DangerMouse
Sketch
It's not that uncommon for Adult Swim to premiere a mini series on a weeknight strip. They did it for The Heart, She Holler and Neon Joe: Were-Wolf Hunter. Primal is probably written as a 5 piece story that Genndy wanted to it to play out over a week. OwlChemist81
Yeah, I know. But those were both live-action. None of them were as action-forward as PRIMAL is gonna be. But it should also be noted that some websites have mentioned that PRIMAL is actually TEN episodes that are each 11 minutes long, which is a similar structure to Infinity Train. And it will be interesting how ratings websites like ShowBuzzDaily handle the show's ratings reporting: will it be making the chart as 2 15-minute episodes a night, or just 1 30-minute episode?? Sketch
Oh it's actually 11 minute episodes? Interesting. They will probably rate them individually just as most AS originals filling two slots in a half hour tend to be.
Jman
Genndy is no stranger to the format, but I guess this means we shouldn’t expect much in the vein of long form storytelling.
