Ladies, after you've been sexually harassed

What would you prefer those close to you do by way of support or whatever....and do you really mean it if you say things like "just forget it, this stuff happens all the time" or is that just something you say to cope with these things

if this seems like a stupid question, I'm mostly dead inside so I really am asking....

side note: If you know a black lift driver with dreads named Dwayne in Atlanta....that guys a grade A asshole and his time will come.....to all law enforcement entities, this is not an admission of guilt

......I think you're really making a lot of (well, 2) threads that are taking the most unpredictable, and polarizing creatures on this green Earth and trying to generalize their reactions to certain things.

First, harassment is kinda vaguely defined in this thread, but without prying further into the specifics, just know there are women who will consider it sexual harassment if you ask them "Are you wearing Juicy Couture" just because that's what your girl wears and you recognize the scent, and others that you can literally grab their tits and go "Honk honk" and they'll respond "People do that because I'm so hot, I can't help it"

Now with my finger wagging left in the wake, let's get this shipwreck in full effect.

That's probably said as a coping mechanism. Luckily, when this happened to me, the other person got snatched away by my friends, his group of friends, or a bouncer. Most of the shopping or food draws for me nowadays are in suburban type areas where people going out keep to themselves. Sexually harassing people in those places will get you booted pretty quickly too.

I would have broken his hand personally. I have very little patience for this sort of thing.

apparently my propensity towards violence is why I'm not usually told of these things....so a nigga gotta mature and shit, ya feel me -_-

Got assaulted a few years ago at a bus stop. Dude was eyeing me up and down and started saying aloud all the sexual/vulgar things he was going to do to me. Told him to fuck off and he snatched my bag and yanked me to him. Managed to rip the bag back from him and bolted. Bus was pulling up at this point, honked and stopped where I was, let me in, and the driver pulled off without the dude at the stop.

When I decided to talk about it, I was largely just told things like "oh that sucks," "be more careful," and "you should have known not to wear short shorts." Favorite was "but like you're fine right so it's nothing." Just made me not want to talk about it. My oldest brother was pretty upset about it, as were a few male friends. Was discussing self defense/martial arts but that didn't go anywhere.

Do you carry anything for protection....mace, taser, gun?

Would you have responded positively to being offered mace/taser/gun for self defense?

I am way too butterfingers to use a taser or gun. Never carried Mace consistently, but if it ever got to that stage today, I'm beating the shit out of the other person before even thinking about spraying them in the eyes. My bank account has suffered way too much from medical bills for me not to destroy someone for thinking they can put their hands on me without my permission.

Possibly? Those things can be nice to have if needed but I feel like things might have escalated too far if I need to reach for them, assuming I can get to and use said items in time. I think, as a temporary fix, they work. But I'd want training to be able to defend myself more.

Yeah, but like GunStarHero was talking about, sometimes you don't know in a quick enough time when dudes are gonna put their hands on you. If you do get a weapon out, that might piss off a possible attacker even more. And thanks to our shitty country, if a woman responds quickly and does serious damage to her attacker, it becomes a he said/she said situation which can end up with the woman going to jail. We're damned if we do or don't have an arsenal in our purse. So yeah, fuck patriarchies.
