Get ready for fun adventures in Not!WWII-Germany!

Makes sense too that it's at least got some similarity given a lot of the naming.

Curious if it's our world gone wrong or another world/alternate universe with similar but alternate history.

The music and use of it this ep was amazing yet again.

There's a minority of AoT fans who accuse the writer of using Nazi Germany as the inspiration the history of Wall Maria ("I DIDN'T WAIT 5 YEARS JUST TO FIND OUT EVERYTHING WAS ABOUT NAZIS!!"), but I think he was just trying to take the most commonly used era of oppression and heinous wartime period to make it very clear the tone of the flashback.

Hey, if I can accept Nazi overtones in Fullmetal Alchemist, Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, I can accept them in this!

How about another anime with an alternate WW2 Germany?

Ah, I didn't notice they were different sources.  I just watched elfie's which was kind of hilarious.

"Grisha, you'll never get out of the wall" and "But it would be no good if my mother came out of the wall!" have kind of a different implication given what we've learned about Titans and walls.  But stuff like, "I first thought about what to talk I thought of that day," is nearly incomprehensible, and "Grisha, I'm dangerous!  Look ahead and walk!" is just silly.  I can't even imagine why anyone would write, "That. Young. Day. I." and think it was a reasonable translation.

I just watched it!  They are horrible and even nonsensical at times!  What the heck?!  Was this translated by a English second or third language person, or a robot?!

If you got to see the other clip before it got taken down, what did you think of those?  They seemed to make enough sense and agree with the dub for the most part, from what I could tell.

Update: The post credit scene will be available on the Toonami FB page.

Someone in program edit department cut this?!  Some heads better roll!

And does he really think posting it to Facebook is good enough?!  A lot of people that just watch the block will be lost!  There's no indication anything is even cut just from watching the broadcast!  They should've used my idea!  You should've done better than this, Demarco!

As to the fuck-up and possible correcting of it, if Toonami is smooth enough, they could play this clip like it's a cold open for the next episode.  But if it's really true that Funimation didn't even dub it, then I don't know what they're gonna do!

And look at that, I'm not nearly the only person who thinks this.

And he said they won't get fired!

They had ONE JOB, though!

Weird--the video I posted Saturday night got deleted but Elfie's horrible fansubs still remain!

Of course the Toonami Facebook official dubbed version shall remain FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!

Not just deleted, that account was TERMINATED!

Indead it will lmao.

Young Girsha is voiced by Midoriya and now I'm imagining Eren screaming PLUS ULTRA every time he transforms.

I wish you hadn't pointed that out lol.  But it would probably be pretty obvious to hear it anyway.

I thought the voice for the sister was cute.

I can't think of many anime that actually references and criticizes Japan's own role and atrocities during the war, though, except maybe The Wind Rises.  Code Geass even actually tries to act like Japan is a victim of imperialism. 9_9

I think it has to be an alternate world.  I think a LOT would have to have happened for it become like this.  Including a technology regression.  Because even where Grisha came from is not on our level.  We'll have to see though.

I am beginning to believe the spoiler I thought I read when I skimmed a synopsis for this show before season 1 aired on Toonami was either total bullshit, or I somehow read a synopsis for something completely different, but I have no idea what that could be.

Probably highly unlikely to be a spoiler at this point, but marking just in case -

Spoiler

I could have sworn I read a synopsis for Attack on Titan that said it turns out everything is taking place on a dyson sphere.  Which would probably be even more of a mindfuck than what we've already learned.  But I think it can't be possible given how night and day and the moon have been shown to work in the series.  I also thought early on that this was a space war series because it was called "Attack on Titan" (which doesn't make grammatical sense in the actual context of the series if you think about it) and hearing about the characters wearing uniforms. :D

I just did some searching again and couldn't find anything.  I did find this series, though!

Looks pretty interesting!

We're talking about a mass genocide from hungry giants, so from the start I think it's been pretty obvious that AoT takes place in another world.

Also ya know, the magic wizard who erased everyone's memories? So just plain magic is a thing in this world as well.

Yup, I definitely expect alternate world.

Spoiler

Like you said it's probably not the case, but that would actually remind me of the world reveal from one of my fav shows (spoiler ahead for that show)

Spoiler

Last Exile's world reveal at the end of the show.

Other show mentioned:

Spoiler

I can confirm Blame! was indeed cool. I've never gotten to see the manga but I loved the recent Blame! movie. Hopefully they'll eventually make a second one.

Watched it since I really liked those first two seasons of Knights of Sidonia, which it turned out was actually by the same manga author. Which also could use another season.

Don't pick up much manga but thanks to those and a sale I got his recently finished Biomega which would make for a cool show similar to that Blame! movie and that's the next one up that hasn't gotten an anime yet so I wonder if it will.

His most recent, Aposimz, has a potentially amazing world that would make a great epic anime, at least so far through the first three volumes, once it gets enough.

I think even more confirmed after last episode lol.

Continued discussion on those other shows -

Spoiler

I think there's no way it can be true now LOL.

I will have to check out Last Exile.

I was going to say there is a Blame! series too but looks like it was just a couple 4 minute mini-sodes.  Damn, was hoping it was a whole series lol.  I'll try to watch the movies and maybe those mini-sodes if I get the chance.

Did not know it was the same author for Knights of Sidonia.  Maybe I should finally look into that show.  They didn't finish adapting the manga?

Yeah I'm not much of a manga guy myself but I will definitely read some in some circumstances.  Especially if I find it through an anime that didn't cover all the material.  Grrrr lol.

Good to hear.
