So my work is encouraging people to wear rainbow or tie-dye clothing on Saturday to celebrate LGBTQ pride month... not just for those of the LGBTQ community, but allies as well. I consider myself an ally (not in the strictest definition that I've seen, but oh well)... I have no tie-dye shirts, but I have a couple "Rainbow" shirts, in a manner of speaking.... Neither have anything to do with LGBTQ; Rainbow is the name of a hard rock / heavy metal band from the 70s featuring Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore on guitar and originally Ronnie James Dio on vocals... One shirt has a picture of a Rainbow and the word "Rainbow" written on it, but I have worn it recently and it needs a wash... the other has no pictures of rainbows or any rainbow colors but it still has the word Rainbow written on it, and I THINK it is clean in my dresser drawer...

Does wearing either of these shirts count as showing solidarity to the LGBTQ community? :D

I like Rainbow

One of my favorite songs is Street of Dreams

Also, since when has there been a "Q"?

I don't know Street of Dreams... must be *gasp* POST-DIO?????

Sometimes people add a Q... People can't agree on what it stands for though... Some people say "Queer," as like a catch-all, some people say "Questioning", for people who just aren't sure of their sexuality... I don't know.

Jesus christ...

Anyway, go look up Street of Dreams

It's one of my top jams

But it's not sung by Dio

@Juice McKenzie, I actually have heard that song before, but did not like it at all. Not just for the lack of Dio, but the reason Dio was gone by then (the direction Ritchie wanted to take the band).

As much as I disliked the song, I do hear how it could have had a profound influence on Axel Rudi Pell's band, which is interesting, as he / they is / are full on heavy metal.

For not-so-heavy Rainbow, Catch the Rainbow and Temple of the King are far more my speed. :D The former absolutely wowed me the first time I heard it.

I guess you could get away with the clean choice.  Unless people at work don't know you have a sense of humor.  Or, Idk, maybe it's time they know.

I'm kinda over the thought of people mistaking me for gay after experiences from junior high that reared their head again in high school, and again after college.... It actually wouldn't really bug me if people at work thought I was gay.... EXCEPT.... That thread I posted about a female co-worker I am extremely interested in... I don't want her to think I'm gay. xD

Well I don't know what you're doing that depicts you as a gay man and considering this has reoccurred even into college it sounds like you might not know either, lol. xD   I don't know why people care so much about it though.

Well EXCEPT if you're worried SHE might think that.

It was some bullshit rumor that someone started in junior high. As for why people caring about it so much, this was actually quite a long time ago now, the rumor first surfaced when I was in junior high in like 1997 / 1998. I don't think people care nearly as much now as they did back then, lol. Well, some people do, but... eh.

Rainbow's the greetest. Well, Black Sabbath's the greetest, but Rainbow's not far behind.

Nah. I meant rainbow as in pride.

Ha.

Yeah I'm old as shit. I know who Rainbow is.

Those with good taste in music will know what the shirts refer to. Those who don't... eh. I didn't go to school with any of these people anyway.

I also have a zillion band shirts and wear them constantly, so it's not like Rainbow's the only band I'm repping. :D

I have been listening to Queen non-stop for about four months now.

Can't get enough.

idk. i just think symbolic gestures like this are dumb.

if you want to do something, do something concrete.

a few weeks ago, my work made everyone wear green for mental health awareness or something.

it''s just window dressing. it's like saying, what's the least we can do to show the appearance of involvement without actually having to do anything that might involve real effort?

I see what you are saying.

But, my shirts being about a non-LGBTQ band aside, in this particular situation wearing some kind of pride month clothing at least tells the LGBTQ people at work "I'm not your enemy." It's not much, but it's something.

I want all my coworkers to know that I don't support them and I am indeed their mortal enemy.  Jokes aside, no way am I wearing any tshirts to work to support anything. I don't know that I could work for a company that had that kind of policy. What I believe or don't believe is none of their business unless it effects my work.
