They made laws to push me down as if I was not that same as them - but subhuman. Not worthy of respect, love or happiness. For the years of forced labor of my ancestors pushed on them because they were deemed as less than due to their melanin. I stand now proud, not ashamed, to be greater than what they claim I am. To be all that I can be. To love. To persevere. To survive. To thrive... despite all the hatred and all the adversity against me in this world now and back then. That is why im proud.
