Bathroom BMI scale acting wonky Saturday.  Main Directv receiver became a "box of neutrals" yesterday, taking down the network.  Laptop = "Windows has encountered a problem...".

What a fun vacation this is going to be.

Soooo, the tech comes out...and he's here for a service call on my internet.  I didn't need service on the internet, I needed service on my Directv receiver.  Apparently, something got screwed up with the online service request.  The internet tech tries to assist, but isn't versed in Directv.  So he calls a coworker who does and he'll come by after a couple installs he has scheduled.  The internet tech says he'll hang around for the other tech and while waiting will look at my internet hookup.  I show him to the stuff (circa. 1970s technology, I didn't wire the place) and he replaces everything with current technology, FOR FREE because of the mix up I guess.

The Directv tech gets here and determines what I already thought, the main box is toast.  So he replaces the box and the fun begins.  I think he got transferred 5 times and dropped 4 times on his phone calling the lines the techs use, before getting anyone that actually can help.  He was getting really pissed and was very apologetic.  Once he finally got the guy who figured out that they couldn't activate the box until there was a new service ticket for the box.  Then they figured out that they couldn't create a new service ticket until the original ticket was closed.  Then the Directv tech has his call dropped again.  He gets another guy on the phone that knows what he's doing & they get the main box running, but he still has to "marry" the box to the remote receivers.  The first remote has trouble, but that gets solved when they kill one of the 2 server units (I only have one) that my location is on record as having.  That leaves the second remote unit, which will not connect to the server (he called it a "server",  but I think it's really a dedicated wifi modem).  He even disconnected the remote receiver & put it right next to the server - no go.  So I get another new satellite unit that finally works.

tl;dr - Tech calls into his own company, identifies himself as working for the company, gets transferred & dropped repeatedly just like any of us.  Takes him 3 hours to get everything running.
