Would Toonami Even Last that long Once DB Super Concludes?

Recommended Posts

i don't see a new DB Series being ready and dubbed by then so the only options they have are to

1.Restart DBS from the beginning and have a rerun lead the block

2.Have Either MHA or Boruto Lead the block as a test to see how the block could handle not starting off with something DB Related and giving one of these a chance to blossom as the Toonami Pack Leader

or 3.Acquire A New Property to Take Up The Reins in DB's ABsence

MHA HAS led the block before, in August and September of last year, and it didn't do too bad. Over those 5 weeks (not counting the MHA Labor Day marathon), it averaged: 620,200 total viewers; 342,600 adults 18-49. That was the beginning of Season 2.

Dub Premieres of Season 4 would do great as the lead-in when Dragon Ball Super ends, for 6-7 months at least.

.... ARE there any new DB series available that are being dubbed?? I thought Funimation covered them all by now.

That said, yeah, DB Super is gonna end in several months and then the Toonami crew is gonna have to make a crucial decision of how to keep the same ratings without those premieres.  ... I fear they may rely on Naruto and Naruto's juvenile delinquent son instead, which would create a repeat of what happened in 2007-08.

Without new Dragon Ball they’ll just have to set their expectations lower. At this point I don’t think Toonami would collapse without DBS. If 0.16-0.20 18-49 wasn’t adequate right now for most of the premieres then Toonami would already have been minimized to like 2 hours by now.

I don’t like to think along the lines of DB haters who say DB has ruined AS Toonami but when they claim DB does nothing to benefit most of the lineup they’re probably right about that much. I do think Toonami wouldn’t have been anywhere near as successful without DBZ Kai in 2015 and 2016, it may have even been pulled off the air without DBZ back to fill the hole Bleach left behind. That was back when the anchor pulling in less than 900,000 viewers wasn’t very adequate compared to the rest of cable and Adult Swim. Toonami has a MUCH lower bar to meet now.

I think MHA could lead adequately if it is a simuldub. Boruto will end up as the new anchor whether it’s first or second on the lineup. I’d like to see them lead the block with short series and preferably dub premieres.

My pipe dream is that Toonami is secretly co-funding the anime for the final Bleach arc.  Bleach: Bankai, has a nice ring to it.  Bleach always did great ratings for ASA and Toonami, was the series that kept ASA going long enough for the Toonami return experiment to even be viable, and Bleach fans stuck around for the following shows a lot more than those weird Dragon Ball Only anime fans.

But yeah they're going to need something to take Super's place and I don't think rerunning it is a good idea.  I hope they've been preparing.

Screw your stupid pessimism. Toonami has survived without any Dragon Ball before, and it could probably do so again.

I remember when somebody was complaining to Demarco either on Twitter or Ask about them having not having any Dragon Ball, and Demarco said they don't need it.  It's funny with how they jumped on Kai as soon as it was available, and how dependent they've become on Dragon Ball now.  I'm sure they could survive without it, and I hope they've been making preparations.

It's a ridiculous theory, but I support it.

Spoiler

Plus it reaffirms my "Toonami and Pierrot teaming up to co-produce Kinky Kunoichi season 2" headcanon.

:D  Given my history with Bleach, you know I would be the happiest little thing on Earth is that were the case. It sounds like a massive fantasy, but hey, I used to think Toonami would never come back, so what do I know

It's more of a hope than a theory, but yeah. T__T

What the heck, is there like some kind of meta-universe for your anime idea? o_O

Yeah!  Man, it just has to come back some day!  So many great moments in that arc that deserve to be animated and seen and experienced by more people!

is there anything that can really match dragon ball's numbers?(and given How few viewers are counted for the ratings it's very unlikely That MHA Or Boruto will match up in the long run since most viewers do not have as much of a connection to those shows as they do dragon ball)

I don't think Dragon Ball Super is going anywhere once it concludes. It will probably kick off the reruns at 2 AM though, or maybe, just maybe, Toonami expands back to 6 AM and Super reruns take over the entire 5 AM hour? They HAVE aired it 11 times a week before in the past. It might be neat to see an all-Super power hour at 8 PM that repeats at 5 AM.
