The1gairon
Apparently, DeMarco is not bothered by all the anime they lose to Netflix and companies every day. For a while now, hell especially when Toonami came back, he says it's "a small boutique thing", and that he's got high hopes for the block's future so long as they get at least 2 big shows per year, and the acquisition of a Warner Media/OTT offering coming only reinforces that. I admit I had this feeling for years too. But it's annoying when everyone knows the shows they get to air are most certainly NOT "boutique", and we expect the utmost treatment for them instead of tepid ratings once a week. I actually prefer watching anime at a set time every week because it makes it easy to plan my busy life, and I know it gurarantees a few other people who will talk about it with me at the same time. Also, it appears that's the last straw for DeMarco's patience when responding to that question. So .... yeah, great job, user. You ran out the patience of someone who I previously assumed had infinite amounts of patience.
Blatch
The big streaming players are here to stay, so there's no reason to complain about them. What nice chivalry from DeMarco... but I'm sure others will sarcastically say that he's not mad. Between the Crunchyroll partnership and more origlinal projects coming out over time (like the new Blade Runner show, which is from CR anyway), I think Toonami is a in a good position. They're also at an advantage as not needing to get shows that'll ensure good ratings, so they can focus on making them really good.

Wait so why did we get Tokyo Ghoul again?
PokeNirvash
Because fate wanted to help me ingest as much Pierrot as I could as reference for me writing Kinky Kunoichi. Same reason we got Black Clover.

I’m presuming yes since a lot of these first run deals - 1. Won’t apply to stuff Toonami is already airing. 2. Won’t affect the shows when DeMarco gets them since they usually air them well after their premiere (case in point - My Hero Academia). First run exclusivity means they air it first, not only they get to have it. This is really a question of the delivery again. Is it worth getting shows the other guys air first? Ginguy
I think people are missing the important take-away here; "if I can make a show or two a year, and run some good stuff". DeMarco wants Toonami to be a content producing venue, as well as a boutique broadcast platform. Look at the bigger items they have done recent, FLCL Regressive and FLCL Alternative. Look at the big recent announcement; a Blade Runner anime. They aren't trying to fight netflix or hulu, they are trying to make original programming, which kind of cuts out streaming competition. Also, unless someone can actually post the exclusivity contract terms, anyone claiming toonami can or can't get show XYZ is full of bullshit. 1 1
The1gairon
Also who's to say Hulu will accept EVERYTHING Funimation has?? It says "Hulu has first dibs", but it won't be first dibs if Hulu rejects it. Sure, we can't be sure what they'll choose, but it's something. Because the Toonami fans kept asking for it, so Demarco had to give the fans what they wanted, was more or less what he said. In other words, obnoxious Tokyo Ghoul fanboys and fangirls wouldn't shut up and stop spamming them with requests until they aired it... even years after it debuted and the peak of its hype? Argh.
