A poem/song I wrote recently. Skewer me for writing it. I want you to.

Country Boy

Growing up living in the outskirts

Walking around in your untucked shirt

Never thought you’d be where you are now

How you long for life in the country.

Get up. Go to work. Make the money. Pay the bills.

Go home. Eat your meal. Go to bed. Dream of cheap thrills.

One day, you wake up and decide to change it all.

You work hard to reach for the stars only to slip and fall.

So you look in the mirror and overanalyze your mistake.

But in reality, you’re one building over from that juicy steak.

Growing up living in the outskirts

Walking around in your untucked shirt

You never thought you’d be here by now

You suddenly long to retire to the country.

You’ve spent some time living in the city.

You’ve lost all that made you witty.

Perhaps the only way to go back

Is to move back on the wrong side of the track.

You can still follow your hopes and dreams

While living in the small town

You have people that love you

And they will never let you down.

Growing up living in the outskirts

Walking around in your untucked shirt

Now you know where to go from here

To live out your dreams in the country!

You are a country boy at heart.

You knew that right from the start.

Go forth. You now have your plan.

Don’t be afraid to make a stand.
