Codename: Jackass Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Whathappens at Unitarian Universalist religious service?

There is a minister, music, singing, but the sermon focus on human faith in general, philosophy, and world events. There’s a lot of teaching about religion as a human activity. So you learn a lot about what other religions believe and do. And if there’s a good lesson in a myth/story from a different religion, it might be recited. Other religions get irritated and say UUs appropriate their teachings and scripture and junk but it’s really not like that.

TrigunBebop Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 How did your church handle issues involving human sexuality? I've seen some Unitarian churches handle it quite well, but I've also seen some that seemingly combined the worst attitudes towards sexuality from many different religions into one big clusterfuck of misery (And I've seen a few that steer clear of issues involving sexuality altogether. Just wondering which of those match your experience the most.

The Unitarian part comes from a Christianity that believes in one god not the holy trinity or something like that. So they may not have the Universalist views. They could be more Christian and not accepting at all. All Unitarian Universalist churches welcome & accept LGBT ppl. UU was actually the first church in America to marry same sex couples. There’s also Arts and Lectures which is like extracurricular open discussion time (plus wine.) I remember a couple nights the topics were sex related but only adults went to arts and lectures. Once or twice someone had to drive my dad home with his head out the window bc he drank too much at arts and lectures 1
