People who work in real estate are messed up.

At least here in the U.S.. Rent in this country is definitely a racketeering scam. Capitalism is great and all (cough sarcasm cough) but we need some rules that say people can't line their pockets for doing nothing other than owning a piece of property. A genuine contribution this does not make.

Well they did make rules regarding how much a property can raise rent from year to year regardless of market...I mean the apartments I’m in now we pay 756 because we were locked in at a lower rate before the boom of business came here...but people who come in now have to pay 1,200....so they can’t raise our rate to the 1,200 because that’s against the law

What I'm saying is, if the 756 is what's affordable, everyone should have the opportunity to pay around that.

People should be allowed to make money for whatever other people chose to pay them for, so long as the thing isn't illegal to begin with.

An alternative would be to ease back vagrancy laws so as to create less artificial demand, making prices lower.

That first bit is a slippery slope. If all the landlords and real estate agents know that mutually raising their prices together will force people to pay more because there is no alternative, they don't even have to get together in a shady room to plan it out. They just raise their prices. This is the kind of thing that happens to high demand necessities in the context of capitalism; people get raped financially over them. Food, housing, medical care, education? All super expensive when they don't have to be. There's a limit to what's acceptable to charge for life necessities considering the income of the average person. There are more and more homeless people every year. Usurers are going to get chastised hard at some point or another if they don't learn what that limit is.

they arent raising wages but keep raising rent

yeah thats unfair

but landlords do have a lot of work and responsibity in maintaining their properties and keeping them livable

Work which, by and large, is eschewed whenever possible.

depends on where you live

i had zero problems at my 1st place

2nd place tons of issues...i got a brand new stove, dishwasher...free hotel when they needed to dig up my closet, etc. AND they gave me a student discount off my rent.

if there's people willing to pay a specific amount, there's people willing to charge them that.

and then there's people more than willing to exploit this, especially when it's never met with punishment.

you can argue about capitalism all you want, but the real underlying problems of it, here in america would subvert and apply to every ideology if allowed to.

No yeah I get you...I don’t like the fact that they raise prices because they know people need to move here for their jobs and they wanna get more money out of it
