I think the Major is like late 30's in the main timeframe of the show, which means she's early 20's at this point. 2

Funny thing is it's not too far-fetched. But really the War on Drugs should be done away with. Some years ago I saw this show where this guy claimed to have a vision of the future. He said World War III would start when America got involved in Mexico's civil war. He also claimed that a giant tsunami was headed toward Europe in the Mediterranean, and they detonated a giant nuclear bomb to stop it, which ends up backfiring and wiping out the entire Italian peninsula. 1

Yes well that's the thing. They should have said something way later than 2020, since, as I said, real world events and technology don't even slightly resemble what was shown here. Guess this means we have to treat GitS as a completely fictional universe and not a documentary about the future. Same thing happened to Star Trek when the Eugenics Wars didn't end up happening in the 90s!
