It appears to be fairly old. I've never seen one myself, but it looks to be the right design for a grease trap and I don't think its unlikely that early models would be made of cast iron. Modern grease traps are significantly larger, making it cost prohibitive to make them out of cast iron. Also, PVC doesn't have the structural integrity to handle the size of a commercial interceptor.
