  1. I wasn't aware Toriyama had done anything on GT or had to. That was a just fun filler what-if series for the hell of it.
  2. Toriyama busted his ass making Dragonball for years, when there were many points where he would've liked to stop, but kept doing it at the urging of his editors and the magazine, and probably for the fans. He's earned his semi-retirement. Togashi on the other hand is basically the Duke Nukem guy of manga.
  3. If they brought One Piece back I highly doubt it would get that kind of billing. It would probably be nice and a good idea to not re-debut it at the end of the block, but I don't see it getting a slot that good. Of course this is all a pipe dream anyway.
  4. Well from what I'm aware that formula seems to do well for them. Programming for Toonami though requires more care and thought but you have to think the Toonami crew appreciates having some long-runners on the block because that means they don't have to go through the process of picking a new show for every slot every 13-52 weeks. And you need long-runners to get viewers in and keep them around. Viewers like familiarity and always having a show they love being there for them to back to. So, they come for these shows and then hopefully stay for the finite series. Having One Piece back there was one more slot they didn't have to program for and one that viewers came back for. Ratings must have been pretty bad for a long enough time to get The Powers That Be to ax it. Demarco did say the short answer was ratings. There was probably more to it but we'll probably never know what. And I mean we do know for a fact that the ratings weren't that great for a long time, so there's no real reason to overthink this. Though I have to admit I didn't see this coming since I figured the standards weren't that great for One Piece being the last show before the rerun and then AS comedies taking over. I suppose I was wrong and One Piece wasn't as safe as I thought.
  5. It is odd, I must admit. All I can figure is since Adult Swim is exclusively a late night network those slots must be more important and valuable to them.
  6. It's fucking retarded. Sasuke is a traitor and villain, as you said. Yet Naruto and the others want to "bring him back." I fail to see what makes Sasuke any better than Orochimaru or various other traitors and rogue ninjas the Leaf Village attempts to capture or outright kill. Naruto even says at one point that he's going to put Kabuto in a jail cell back at the village. But not Sasuke because... Sasuke.
  7. Naruto being so obsessed with Sasuke would actually make sense if he was gay or bi, as they never came off like best friends. It's like getting upset that someone you were friendly with at some job left. They weren't "best friends" at all. Makes you wonder what issues Kishimoto has.
  8. Sasuke is the worst. It couldn't have been more disappointing when the show took the turn of having Sasuke not getting brought back to the village after one arc and continued with that storyline, making Sasuke such a focus of the series. I actually find Naruto somewhat likable. And at least he gets reprimanded for his shitty behavior. Naruto and Sasuke never came off as best friends, either, which is what makes the "SAVE SASUKE" goal even more idiotic and nonsensical.
  9. We've already got a good hate/riff watch in Naruto! Yeah it used to be good many moons ago. That and also experience the train wreck as it's well-known Naruto only gets exponentially shittier from here.
  10. I don't know about that. I mean I'm pretty sure shows actually got taken off or death-slotted a lot more often back then. Yu Yu Hakusho and Rave Master come to mind. Some shows they just flat out didn't finish, like Zatch Bell, MAR, etc. The standards are less high late at night but there are still standards. Unfortunately One Piece didn't meet whatever the standards are that the higher ups set for it. Again this wasn't Toonami's decision, but their bosses'.
  11. Because Banagher isn't enough.
  12. It's getting rough for me. Only shows I like on the block are the Dragonballs, Jack, GitS, and JoJo. It used to be I liked just about all the shows airing. Now it's a chore to get through Unicorn, which is difficult to follow and has the typical ham-fisted preaching and annoying whiny crybaby characters found in Gundam, Naruto which has sucked for so long and will only continue in its downward shit spiral, and Hiatus which was so boring and nonsensical, wrung every last ounce of caring I had about the characters, and was never getting to "the good part", it was so bad I had to break my own self-imposed ironclad completionist rule of watching everything on the block and drop it. Now I don't have One Piece to look forward to and we're getting Edgelord the Anime in its place. *SIGH*
  13. I don't think anybody's going to be spoiling anything.
  14. I see. Yeah I would've liked to own the series but never got around to it. I had heard about these shorts but never sought them out, since I'm sure there out there somewhere online too.
  15. That's the first time I've ever seen one since I never owned the show. Random. And odd since that Oshii short and the music video would've taken up extra time tonight.
  16. The aspect ratio is wrong tonight. DEEEEHHHH-MAAAAAARC-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  17. It's kind of tricky. Speaking for myself I'd rather discuss it in a forum than a chat room, which I don't like the impermanence of. Of course, I'm not too happy about my years of show commentaries being forever sealed away in an Indiana Jones-style vault at Williams Street... if they even kept any of the Lithium stuff. Watching live is part of what makes Toonami so fun. However I usually post during commercials. After we moved some years back it was possible to have my computer near the TV and I could post any time I wanted, I just ended up missing things. I misinterpreted some things that happened in Casshern because of this. So I went back to posting during commercials for the most part. There won't be any commercials when we watch online. Aside from my personal preferences, it's going to be difficult to get everyone together on any particular night. Maybe you could pick Saturday since people already try to set aside time for Toonami. Though some people barely get in on time or even show up late, because of work, doing things because it's, ya' know, the weekend, etc. So asking people to show up earlier to watch the show might be difficult. I do think we should watch more than one a week, since the show is very long and we're no longer bound by a TV schedule. So, I don't know. Maybe do the 3rd thing you suggest, pick a number of episodes to watch a week and then post in a thread whenever you get finished at your own pace. Though this wouldn't be the same as us all watching at the same time on Toonami.
  18. Same here. This isn't like the old days when a show ended on TV and that was it for us. Now we know we have options. What happened with me is I had no idea about watching One Piece online, much less an interest in watching subs. Years later I found out One Piece was still going but it was so far along it didn't look like there was a way for me to get back into it. And again, predominantly subs. I never thought One Piece would be back on TV, much less that I'd get back into it. Got blind-sided by its return because I wasn't following the Toonami folder at the time. Left there because there was a bunch of negativity when Toonami first came back. Didn't make the mistake of getting caught out of the loop like that after that. Anyway I had to marathon to catch up on short notice. Got to see the original episodes with a good dub for the first time and see Little Garden and Skypiea for the first time. Then I got to continue the journey with everyone else on Toonami. It was good times. And now it's over. But I'm not going to let myself fall out of keeping up with One Piece again.
  19. And now violin Bink's Brew... T__T Everyone hearing it... We'll all keep waiting for you Brook. T__T And the wind picks up. So long One Piece on Toonami.
