I presume these are the main characters? The guy has kind of a bland design and a face just like Natsu. The girl looks a lot like Lucy, but with slightly different face, and Happy is literally in it? At least from what I read of the premise, it's sci-fi and not fantasy this time?

Yeah the Super movies are canon, and I would recommend watching them over the Beerus and Frieza Sagas of Super since it's done much better there.
