    Gotta say I had no interest in Ready Player One. Wreck-it Ralph was a good videogame movie with references, though. Ready Player One just seemed like a really cliche concept and story with tons of references and cameos thrown in for the sake of it and a cgi fuckfest. That shot with all the cars on the the Hot Wheels-ass looking tracks? Really? Hard to take serious. That and the last of the true mega-nerds. Anime is semi-mainstream and acceptable now, but tabletop gamers are still lepers, right? Pretty sure that's the last of "geek culture" (I hate that term) that hasn't gone mainstream. You know what's hilarious, is I remember my friend telling me years ago how Battletech fans apparently accused Robotech of ripping off Battletech? I had no idea about this! https://www.pcgamesn.com/battletech/battletech-harmony-gold-lawsuit I was always under the impression that Gundam made a big splash on the original Toonami (and I remember toys and model kits being all over ToyFare and other magazines, and in stores,) but then fizzled out and went niche. It is true that it continued to air for a while longer I guess. Wasn't there a big hiatus though, due to Sunrise being difficult to work with? Edit - Watched clip. The Gundam and MechaGodzilla should be way bigger than that. Characters look stupid. Obvious cgi is obvious. Unless it's supposed to look like a videogame? Because it doesn't look real.

    The only Gundam series I've liked so far were G Gundam and the first season of IBO. IBO season 2 really shat the bed. Most other Gundam series have a crybaby protagonist and/or some cheesy and pretentious preaching. One series even has fighters from opposite sides falling in love. Well that's good, then.

    Eh, not just atmosphere, but you can't compare the sense of community you get from Toonami, to just watching stuff by yourself at any given time. And yeah I have friends that like anime and we have watched some together in the past, but we don't get together that often anymore and it's not like anime is the only hobby we share or thing we would watch or do. Using social media to discuss anime is ass. The layout for Twitter is horrid and chaotic, and things quickly get buried, you can't go back to it easily like on a forum. Reddit has a HORRIBLE layout and user interface. Facebook's layout is decent but it has the same issue of impermanence as the others. So yeah maybe Toonami itself doesn't serve much more of a practical purpose to most, and cable is only killing itself with its insane pricing and business models, but the experience really can't be replicated. And I have news for people. Everything going streaming will quickly and easily exceed cable bills. It was fine when it was just a few services and they had huge libraries. Every one trying to have their own service defeats the purpose of Netflix and Hulu with their massive libraries. People are going to be pirating a lot because they're not going to subscribe to a streaming platform just to watch one fucking show.
