  1. Ah hah! HxH edges out Ghoul. Nice to see Unicorn finish above 0.26 18-49, beat Ghoul with 18-34 and makes 12-34 and not lose to Shippuden. Retention was better for the most part and that's a relief.
  2. I'd love it but there's no freak'n way they're doing that. Best thing we can hope for, for Lupin's sake, is Super shifts to 11pm and the rest of the line-up shifts up with in roughly the current order or perhaps they leave HxH at 1:30 and give Lupin 1AM. Though what I'd like to see within reason is this. 11:00 PM - Draogn Ball Super 11:30 PM - Dragon Ball Z Kai 12:00 AM - Attack on Titan 12:30 AM - Hunter x Hunter 1:00 AM - Lupin the 3rd 1:30 AM - Tokyo Ghoul 2:00 AM - Naruto Shippuden 2:30 AM - Ghost in the Shell or Samurai Jack 3:00 AM - Whichever wasn't at 2:30 I suggest finishing the night with Jack because it flows into comedy a lot better than GITS for dang sure and it's free and has prime time on Sunday so it doesn't matter where it airs really. They could even just drop it entirely and make Toonami 11PM-3AM but I figure they may as well play it.
  3. Maybe some people tuned in to Toonami, saw Samurai Jack was episode 1 of season 5 again and figured it was another marathon and got the hell out.
  4. Well those ratings suck. Gonna be interesting to see if they try to ride it out or if they pull the Jack reruns in a week or two. On the bright side, Super retained Jack exceptionally well. Unfortunately, Jack retained Family Guy quite badly. That was about to be expected but 0.4 18-49 is not a good place to start Toonami's night. And the bleeding didn't stop there. Attack on Titan proceeded to lose over 100,000 the modest 18-49 viewers DBZ Kai dragged in. You might expect that kind of drop when DBZ gets 600,000 or 700,000 but not when it got 517,000 18-49. You'd think with a smaller base the drop-off would be minimal but that certainly was not the case. After that the retention between shows was alright but the ratings themselves were disturbingly low across the board. Then to add insult to injury the comedy after Toonami which usually doesn't do great managed to gain on Toonami showing that the right shows can make a difference in those early morning slots. If this persists and they leave it alone I don't know what to think anymore. We can always hope the on-demand, DVR and streaming numbers are balancing the books and keeping Toonami from looking like a money pit. I have a hard time believing things wouldn't be looking better if they had dropped the Jack rerun to the backend and shifted earlier or put Family Guy back at 11pm. Don't waste 11pm on a a serialized rerun, that's insanity. My advice to everyone here is this: enjoy the shows and encourage your friends to watch the block. That's all we can and should do.
  5. I gotta be honest, if Toei nuked the Dragon Ball contracts and left Toonami Dragon Ball-less they would probably be doing better than they are right now as long as they started at midnight and lead with a dub premiere. Though apparently the right show for that is NOT Attack on Titan season 2 which can't even freaking retain DBZ Kai for shit.
  6. Pretty sure people who aren't on the spectrum can enjoy fidget spinners. It's like spinning a pen, twiddling your thumbs, clicking a pen, etc. I don't figure everyone who does those sorts of things to help stay focused are on the spectrum.
  7. Bowing to Toei's demands has lead us to our current ratings funk and having some obligation to keep Tokyo Ghoul at a watchable time and some obligation not to move Hunter to 2AM has lead us to Lupin at 2AM. It's a shame really. Toonami's current status is a mainly a good batch of shows in less than desirable time slots. You can also argue Lupin is an old property and a nicher one that they're just trying to throw a bone while Tokyo Ghoul is "the new hotness" despite that iron going quite cold by now. If they really are obligated to keep Tokyo Ghoul in the 1AM slot that is yet another reason why they shouldn't have touched that show at this point. Being largely episodic and pretty easy to get into, perhaps a late slot wont be death to Lupin but having it wedged between two story heavy shounen is probably going to work out about as well as having Dandy between Bleach and Shippuden. On the bright side I do see HxH viewers being more welcoming to Lupin than Tokyo Ghoul viewers. Tokyo Ghoul into Lupin is too much of a mood whiplash though I doubt that's why they have Lupin starting after HxH instead of Ghoul. Welp... I'll be watching HxH and Lupin at any rate.
  8. Nah, Tokyo Ghoul ought to be there instead. It's already a corpse after all.
  9. Probably not Tokyo Ghoul fans but eh... screw 'em
  10. Having it premiere at 2AM is quite a downer. I certainly didn't want HxH to move to 2AM but I definitely didn't want Lupin to premiere at 2AM. Ugh... why did they have to drag out the corpse of Tokyo Ghoul to replace One Piece instead of getting Lupin right then? I would have much preferred for them to finish out Tokyo Ghoul at 2AM and give Lupin an actual chance without screwing over HxH.
  11. It's just too bad they don't have 2001 series itself.
  12. It was pretty forgettable. I mean 2014 had the first season of Attack on Titan, the entire run of Space Dandy, the final season of Bleach, the return of DBZ and the Toonami runs of Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate and Gurren Lagann. Blue Exorcist feels pretty lost in the shuffle among those more memorable titles and big moments for the block. They didn't rerun it on-air, it never had a marathon it just came and went as the show that aired between Toonami's runs of SAO and Gurren Lagann. Gurren's run of Toonami is pretty easy to forget as well but nobody is gonna say that show doesn't stand out above the crowd. Blue Exorcist was a flavor of the month that I'm a bit surprised even got a second season after this long.
  13. I got you fam
  14. I don't think it's contractual that DBS airs exactly at 11:30 but rather it has to air before midnight. I think they should lead with Super for two reasons. It's more comedic and thus pairs better with Family Guy and the other reason is because we don't want DBZ to drop a lot from Family Guy and then Super drop a lot from that right? We know DBS into DBZ doesn't tend to mean DBZ drops a lot from DBS but swapping them may yield worse retention. So June 3rd 11:00 PM - Dragon Ball Super 11:30 PM - Dragon Ball Z Kai 12:00 AM - Attack on Titan 12:30 AM - Tokyo Ghoul 1:00 AM - Hunter x Hunter 1:30 AM - Gundam Unicorn 2:00 AM - Naruto Shippuden 2:30 AM - Samurai Jack Season 5 3:00 AM - Ghost in the Shell Then on June 17th, Lupin just swaps into Unicorn's 1:30AM slot and Hunter gets back to 1AM.
  15. Action will mostly consist of thrilling chase sequences but there is a badass gunman and a master swordsman on Lupin's crew so there's some of that. Story wise it's pretty episodic and focused on pulling off heists. Very funny character interactions. Animation is great, the show was made in 2015. The character designs are classic but animation and other design is all modern and looks great.
  16. If by chance Toonami doesn't end up airing it, I'm pretty sure Sunrise will stream the dub. The first season's dub is on Crunchyroll now.
  17. To be fair, that's 1 quarter hour segment that they'll be able to rerun for free whenever they want vs 7 half hours of content that is new to the network that costs money to rerun. Kind of makes sense to avoid wasting that much content on a holiday weekend if you can avoid it. Marathons are about the only thing that's sensible to do when you need to fill 4 hours and Toonami usually only has one rerun in it. If it was 3 hours they could pay one long movie but at four hours they'd have to run two movies minimum and that gets costly. Personally I don't mind the odd week off every now and then but having one week off in July, September, October, November and probably two off in December does get annoying due to frequency. At that point you almost question why even bother airing Toonami from Halloween weekend until January? The shows constantly lose momentum because of the frequent breaks. Though it'd be a drag if Toonami was only running from January to late October every year. I really don't want them to take July 1st off this year. They should let Lupin air uninterrupted until Labor Day weekend and don't get Attack on Titan even more behind.
  18. Mistakes were made though I was going by the OVAs at the time not the TV cut which is in many ways inferior.
  19. Consider my interest and faith in Toonami's show selection reinvigorated. I'm freak'n thrilled this is airing.
  20. Trying something new by trying something old. Lupin is mad refreshing among all these angst heavy shounen.
  21. Thanks for sharing that mochi. I was quite amused and also enjoyed some of the other videos on the channel. >
  22. You should have seen some of my crack-pot schedules back in high school.
