Lupin the 3rd Comes to Toonami June 17th
Sketch replied to viperxmns's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Having it premiere at 2AM is quite a downer. I certainly didn't want HxH to move to 2AM but I definitely didn't want Lupin to premiere at 2AM. Ugh... why did they have to drag out the corpse of Tokyo Ghoul to replace One Piece instead of getting Lupin right then? I would have much preferred for them to finish out Tokyo Ghoul at 2AM and give Lupin an actual chance without screwing over HxH. -
Netflix picked up the ball with Cyborg 009 of all things

It's just too bad they don't have 2001 series itself. -
It was pretty forgettable. I mean 2014 had the first season of Attack on Titan, the entire run of Space Dandy, the final season of Bleach, the return of DBZ and the Toonami runs of Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate and Gurren Lagann. Blue Exorcist feels pretty lost in the shuffle among those more memorable titles and big moments for the block. They didn't rerun it on-air, it never had a marathon it just came and went as the show that aired between Toonami's runs of SAO and Gurren Lagann. Gurren's run of Toonami is pretty easy to forget as well but nobody is gonna say that show doesn't stand out above the crowd. Blue Exorcist was a flavor of the month that I'm a bit surprised even got a second season after this long.

I don't think it's contractual that DBS airs exactly at 11:30 but rather it has to air before midnight. I think they should lead with Super for two reasons. It's more comedic and thus pairs better with Family Guy and the other reason is because we don't want DBZ to drop a lot from Family Guy and then Super drop a lot from that right? We know DBS into DBZ doesn't tend to mean DBZ drops a lot from DBS but swapping them may yield worse retention. So June 3rd 11:00 PM - Dragon Ball Super 11:30 PM - Dragon Ball Z Kai 12:00 AM - Attack on Titan 12:30 AM - Tokyo Ghoul 1:00 AM - Hunter x Hunter 1:30 AM - Gundam Unicorn 2:00 AM - Naruto Shippuden 2:30 AM - Samurai Jack Season 5 3:00 AM - Ghost in the Shell Then on June 17th, Lupin just swaps into Unicorn's 1:30AM slot and Hunter gets back to 1AM.

Lupin the 3rd Comes to Toonami June 17th

Action will mostly consist of thrilling chase sequences but there is a badass gunman and a master swordsman on Lupin's crew so there's some of that. Story wise it's pretty episodic and focused on pulling off heists. Very funny character interactions. Animation is great, the show was made in 2015. The character designs are classic but animation and other design is all modern and looks great. -

If by chance Toonami doesn't end up airing it, I'm pretty sure Sunrise will stream the dub. The first season's dub is on Crunchyroll now. -
here's what i never got about marathons
Sketch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
To be fair, that's 1 quarter hour segment that they'll be able to rerun for free whenever they want vs 7 half hours of content that is new to the network that costs money to rerun. Kind of makes sense to avoid wasting that much content on a holiday weekend if you can avoid it. Marathons are about the only thing that's sensible to do when you need to fill 4 hours and Toonami usually only has one rerun in it. If it was 3 hours they could pay one long movie but at four hours they'd have to run two movies minimum and that gets costly. Personally I don't mind the odd week off every now and then but having one week off in July, September, October, November and probably two off in December does get annoying due to frequency. At that point you almost question why even bother airing Toonami from Halloween weekend until January? The shows constantly lose momentum because of the frequent breaks. Though it'd be a drag if Toonami was only running from January to late October every year. I really don't want them to take July 1st off this year. They should let Lupin air uninterrupted until Labor Day weekend and don't get Attack on Titan even more behind. -

Mistakes were made though I was going by the OVAs at the time not the TV cut which is in many ways inferior. -

Consider my interest and faith in Toonami's show selection reinvigorated. I'm freak'n thrilled this is airing. -

Trying something new by trying something old. Lupin is mad refreshing among all these angst heavy shounen. -
Thanks for sharing that mochi. I was quite amused and also enjoyed some of the other videos on the channel. >

Yeah they could do a Super Power Hour and hell they could do this on June 3rd: 11:00 PM - Dragon Ball Super from May 27th 11:30 PM - Dragon Ball Super for June 3rd 12:00 AM - Attack on Titan 12:30 AM - Attack on Titan 1:00 AM - Tokyo Ghoul 1:30 AM - Hunter x Hunter or Tokyo Ghoul if they want to keep up with the hour blocks thing 2:00 AM - Gundam Unicorn 2:30 AM - Gundam Unicorn 3:00 AM - Ghost in the Shell (maybe another GITS at 3:30AM if they feel like continuing the hour block all night) It's rather outlandish but it will clean the slate for June 10th allowing a show to replace Gundam and a show to replace Jack while keeping Titan and Super from getting behind. As for Hunter taking a break, I suppose if the contract was a certain way then they could take a break but that's bound to frustrate the loyal HxH viewers and make a lot of people assume it got pulled like One Piece. It'd be especially lousy to cut off HxH mid-arc. -

The manga and prior anime well predate InuYasha but the similarities will be apparent to people who have seen InuYasha. It's hot blooded shounen fun with killing demons and such. I haven't seen much of it, kind of always hoping it could air on Toonami some day and I could watch it there. -

Might not be quite too late for Mob and MHA but by next year it probably is. If Titan is doing badly because people were not expecting a dub so soon then the window they should shoot for is probably 3 months to a year after the show ends in Japan. 0-3 months after it ends in Japan is within the window of when people will still be focused on the simulcast and won't notice a TV airing or it's too fresh in their memory to watch it again if they would. That said it could be the case that the issues only apply to Titan and other roughly as popular shows won't have the same problem. It's possible the casual audience just stopped caring about AoT after three years or switched to reading the manga and if their experience with reading the manga was like mine, at some point they may have lost interest. -
Ashi - The one thing about Samurai Jack no one seems to agree on.
Sketch replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Nah man they jumped from Ashi hating him to Ashi being confused to mutual respect and suddenly they're acting like kids with crushes. It was all rather rushed, particularly in this episode. It's not like there was no setup but on screen they jumped from mutual respect to lovers DANG quick and for little reason. I guess you could argue Jack did show attraction to Ashi when he first saw her cleaned up but it still feels forced. I also personally don't like that a capable female warrior was introduced just to end up as Jack's lover. Or at least I'm not sure how I feel about it. If they only became romantic so she would die and give Jack someone else to mourn, that's pretty lousy. -

Yep. Wouldn't mind Log Horizon if they wanted to throw on something older but now that they've dropped One Piece and JoJo isn't an "all the time" show, Ushio & Tora would be fantastic. -

Assuming Aku doesn't kill Ashi, I could definitely see Jack doing that. -
Ashi - The one thing about Samurai Jack no one seems to agree on.
Sketch replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
After episode 8 aired my opinion on keeping Ashi around will hinge heavily on what they do with her from here. If she gets killed and Jack wants to avenge her that's a freak'n waste and they could have done without having them fall in love if that was the case. If she survives then I don't mind that they gave Jack somebody to love. The man deserves that much. On the other hand if Jack ends up dying, aging or returning to the past after he slays Aku... I don't really know. Maybe this is something Genndy always wanted to do or maybe he felt it was finally time to bring romance into the picture but as much as I enjoyed them acting like middle school kids with crushes, it does feel more than a little forced and I don't particularly like that. -

I don't think adult viewers not liking what's on CN for the most part is causing them to watch Adult Swim less, though I suppose it may play a factor in more Adult Swim viewers dropping cable. I also think the overall staleness of the Adult Swim's daily line-up is finally showing signs of losing people's interest. Despite that, Adult Swim remains #1 with their key demographics so most of the viewership loss may not have much to do with what Adult Swim is airing. Most people wont keep overpriced cable and a locked in contract with a satellite company just for a few channels, even if they still love Adult Swim it's not practical to pay that much just to be able to keep watching it when most of the shows are available in greater quantity for less money via streaming. -
the trailer they keep showing for DBS this saturday
Sketch replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Goku is and always will be a negligent man-child. He's also tremendously out of touch with the rest of society as he has a more singular focus of getting stronger and fighting strong opponents. I do feel like Super is cranking that to 11 as he seems even more careless than ever but I don't think he's a dick nor do I think he will ever be a dick. He can however do dickish things because of his singular focus. Pester Whis and Bulma in this latest dubbed episode being a prime example of that and that's something I haven't seen Goku do to that extent since he was still very young. I dislike how cocky and careless he became in Resurrection F but Super's way of making him even more of a oblivious, singular focused bumpkin is getting old quick. -

Sketch replied to brianycpht's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I suppose they could do something like that so they don't remain a week behind on Super but it would be simpler to just air Super and Titan in the 11pm hour on that night and run Jack from 12-5AM if they intend to run a marathon that night. That way Super isn't even temporarily a week behind the 8pm airing and Titan doesn't get further behind either.
