So I'm just gonna throw it out there that there's rumors that Dragon Ball Daima will be simuldubbed and casting is already underway with new actors filling the roles of the younger versions of established characters. I think there's a handful of reasonably likely scenarios that could play out depending on what Toei wants to do. A) Disney throws money at Toei to get it first on Hulu, maybe a same day dub or 2+ weeks behind the Japanese simulcast, CR at least gets to stream the Japanese simulcast B) Toei sticks with Toonami since they still value television and the dub premieres on Toonami 2-4 weeks after the simulcast, Japanese simulcast is on CR and/or Hulu, one or both get to stream the dub eventually C) CR gets the premiere with a simuldub either same day or 2+ weeks behind the Japanese simulcast but it also airs on Toonami within 1-3 months, Hulu probably gets it later D) CR and Hulu get same day Japanese simulcast and a simuldub 2+ weeks after, Toonami airs it within 1-3 months The most unlikely thing would be for any of them to get it completely exclusively but I suppose that could happen for at least a window of time. All of that said, if those rumors hold merit then whether Toonami gets the dub premiere or not we could still see it on the block as early as November.

Here’s an option that will probably grate on everyone. Toonami takes two weeks off the regular lineup on 10/26 and 11/02 causing Kai to fall behind Rewind but from then on Kai remains on both blocks with Rewind staying ahead of Toonami. Although, a preemption of Rewind on November 29th is even more likely than a marathon on Saturday November 30th so that could also affect which block is ahead with Kai until at least December 21st. It would get through Naruto faster and take Kai off Rewind but I’d rather not see Rewind devolve into two hour blocks like Checkered Past has.

Truly a union isn’t necessary if the workers are fairly compensated for their work and maybe it’s too naive to think Stoopid Buddy had good pay and working conditions without union involvement but more often than not animators get screwed without a union contract in place (sadly also WITH one but less so). So that’s probably a bad look for Green especially if he was threatening to move production.

Viz added that very recently too. They get it! Hulu seems to be required to keep the dub uploads about a year behind Toonami so unless people bought the DVD/BD or digital, Toonami was the first way they could have seen dubbed episodes in the past several years. So it’s very nice of Viz to offer The Last on Netflix for those kinds of folks who were following it on Toonami.

It requires basically no money. If they had Steve for a 2 hour session recently (VA standard) for the game review and the special intro for RAMTA they easily could have had him record some lines about saying goodbye to Shippuden. They didn’t even mention the show was leaving on Facebook. You would only notice Shippuden wasn’t on the schedule anymore if you cared enough to look carefully at the schedule image itself. It’s like they don’t want to admit it’s gone.

A fine final episode though what a tease to not show the ceremony. Seeing Iruka and Naruto's relationship come to this conclusion was nice. I think he's much more of a big brother than a father figure but he did somewhat raise the kid. It's a happy ending for Naruto, Hinata and pretty much everyone. Because I fell off of Shippuden early on and only occasionally glanced back at it, it kind of feels like my High School reunion with people I haven't seen in decades. All that said, WTF Toonami you didn't do ANYTHING for the occasion? No mention in the block intro, no promo, no tribute video, not even bumps specific to the wedding. Absolutely nothing. Business as usual and they didn't even get a tape from Viz that contained the full ending sequence for the final episode. Total bullshit. This is not how you send off a show that has been airing for a decade. This is emblematic of how lifeless Toonami has become. Sure they made a new video game review but why do that right now instead of celebrate this show in any way at all? You had Steve in a recording session for that review and the intro for the RickAniMorty block debut and you couldn't have him say a few words for the end of Naruto Shippuden? They make bumps for marathons for pete sake but won't do special bumps for this? They really aren't allowed to do anything fun besides game reviews now it seems and I'm not sure why they even bother with those when most aren't sponsored. The absolute state of the Toonami experience right now...

They certainly could drop 3am in November but they probably won't if they only have the Swordsmith Village arc of Demon Slayer because they can immediately rerun it on the back. But if they have Hashira Training arc (which I think is very unlikely) then they'll probably dial back on MHA unless they can start airing season 7 in December.

By my count they can double up One Piece 2 more weeks for 50 episodes or 4 more weeks for 52. The first episode that aired in 2024 was 649 so they should finish at 699 or 701 depending on if its 50 or 52 a year. That could easily fill a slot in November if they can't start 3 shows in November. Sure would be nice if they could double up One Piece 1:30-2:30AM again and have 3 other premieres but that's clearly asking for too much at this point.

There’s no good reason to side step the rich lore to do a glorified fanfic. Who made this decision to focus on a character that wasn’t even named in the text rather than the legendary king? If it was DeMarco then he truly doesn’t understand what people want from animated films and shows based on existing IP (As if FLCL wasn’t already enough evidence). If it was Kamiyama then his track record is only getting worse with each new project.

Live Action One Piece, from sheer confusion to Season 2 renewal.

Yet another “oh no he’s hot” casting choice. Even Wapol’s actor ain’t a bad looker. Crocodile is gonna be deadly handsome but for real I’ve never been so attracted to the old king. Katey Sagal is a fun choice for Kureha. Probably best that they didn’t get a very new actress who would get the brunt of the backlash over JLC not getting the role. Sagal at least has been in the industry for decades and has some following between a handful of beloved characters. I guess they’re trying not to spoil that Wednesday turns out to be Vivi but I mean… people who don’t know that are very unlikely to be following the cast announcements. Following their logic though, Robin will be announced as Sunday. I wonder if they’ll keep it Miss All Sunday or drop the All? I always thought that was a peculiar choice. -
No if they don’t have 3 shows to start in November I will definitely not reason it’s because of marathons. Any use of marathons after October 26th and before the 2nd to last week of December is a stall tactic. They don’t always do one in November and we’ve had enough off weeks to fill the quota. They’d just be punting till January if they don’t have 3 new block premieres in November. The only marathon I won’t give them shit for is an MHA catch-up marathon the first weekend of November if season 7 starts the next week but even that is only sensible because they stupidly put MHA S6 reruns on and seem intent on reairing all of it even double stripping it.

Let’s be a wee bit reasonable here. Starting a show three weeks before Uzumaki and having to shift it down for 4 weeks then preempted for at least 1 then maybe moved back up isn’t a great way to start a show. It makes more sense to wait till November when they’ll have 3 openings besides replacing Shippuden. That’s the mess they made for themselves. But yeah… no one should have put any stock in DeMarco saying there was a plan for replacing Shippuden. They aren’t yet using OG Naruto for filler which is surprising to me but maybe that’s coming in November.

Sure both blocks could be gone in due time regardless but that end is only sure to come sooner if they get Family Guy back. AS would love to do what FXX does and honestly if they got Family Guy back it might be enough to completely boot the CN side if not at least minimize it to 6am-3pm. Which as Guy suggests would make even more space for Checkered Rewind but I also don’t want AS to expand any further. Maybe just maybe if they can’t afford Family Guy then the demise of PGish nostalgia blocks will get CN back a few hours. Unrealistic I know but I will dream dammit.

Making sure they don’t lose American Dad and Bob’s Burgers for two. What good is it if they get Family Guy back but lose both of those. You want 6+ episodes of Family Guy before 12am? Since we’re specifically talking acquisition budget here I won’t factor originals because WBD seem plenty willing to spend money on a bunch of those that they can also stream on Max. If they can afford to keep Dad, Bob and bring back Peter do you really think they’ll just air less of Dad and Bob? Obviously not because they know it works. Adding back Family Guy means they can move FOX reruns even earlier on weekdays and we can kiss Checkered Past and Toonami Rewind goodbye as 5pm-12am becomes an hour of KotH followed by 2 hours each of the other 3 or 2 hours of KotH up first and one hour of Family Guy at 11pm if they can only afford that. But let’s say you are correct in thinking Toonami’s budget has been so bad because they’re trying to get Family Guy back. Wouldn’t we all rather they give even a fraction more of that money to Toonami so we don’t have constant dry spells? As I said, AS does well enough without Family Guy so I’d rather see them use their hours more creatively than fill even more of them with FOX reruns. You can’t reproduce the success Family Guy had on to AS in previous years today so why bother footing such an expensive bill for diminishing returns? But hey if this desperation move from Comedy Central actually gets them to chart frequently then I’ll entertain the reasoning that Family Guy is something AS should invest in again.
-
I’d rather see them cut back on hours than spend a boat load on Family Guy just so they don’t have to run Bobs and Dad as much. It’s a shame they are allergic to airing Futurama at a decent time except occasionally on a Sunday instead of a movie. I understand the argument that AS always played Family Guy the best but if people are so set on seeing it uncut it’s all on Hulu. Seems odd people would be that concerned about time cuts when some many of them had Family Guy on primarily as easy viewing or background noise.
-
We don’t need Family Guy airing on 4-5 linear channels a week. If they brought it back to AS the improvement to the ratings probably wouldn’t be substantial at this point. Even if they were, the cost would offset the gains significantly and the reality is AS is already airings 13 hours a day without it and it’s doing plenty well enough.
-
Mostly there were no AS promos or Toonami goodies so they could fit enough real commercials in. No time to shill RickAniMorty till later in the block.

I guess I didn't know WBD was involved in this at all. I thought it was a Sony project that would be distributed by Sony. At what point did WBD get their grubby little hands on it? Is it because Genndy is back at "Cartoon Network Studios"? I had full intention to see this in theaters, maybe more than once. That said, I'm a weirdo who appreciates animated films of all kinds and am far from the typical audience and while the prospect of seeing it released in theaters is enticing, it's better off not having that pressure to perform.
