I didn't remember hearing an accent when I was in California, but that was a long time ago. Some places in the country you visit and you're like, "Damn, what did you say?" and others it's not so obvious. As far as NY goes you will hear different accents depending on the borough, especially the Bronx where the accent has a latin flair
