I'm not trying to defend it as though you were on the offensive, just speculating. I wouldn't doubt that they ripped off Star Trek a number of times. All creativity is a combining of known elements in new arrangements. If the expectation is to make something 100% new out of thin air, then everything is a rip off and originality is impossible.

Anywho, SG1 plays by their own rules. They have to in order to protect the Earth, and any random assed aliens they come across with very little information to go on to indicate it's safe.

Star Trek didn't have Richard Dean Anderson. SG1 > Star Trek case closed. It's not their fault they had the budget to make a handful of props they used over and over again and pay the actors. Yes, reality as we know it was an accident. If a creator has to be responsible for a thing that exists, who created the creator? Who created that creator? Ad-infinitum... It's a projection of human behavior. In our experience, we create and make things, and this is how the things we make use of come into being, but that doesn't mean the entire universe exists for the same reason. In dark ages, it made sense to develop an evolutionary behavioral adaptation to "have faith" no matter how much evidence indicated that everyone was going to flipping die horribly and society would collapse. It was a placebo that got us through at the time. Now that things are much better we have a problem with that adaptation because we need to examine and react to actual evidence to prevent those types of disasters in the future. Sorry to be blunt, but it's a fuckin retarded line of reasoning that's holding humanity back. Like, literal mental retardation....
