It's actually a pretty good show too. It's got a decent plot, solid animation, fantastic mech designs (especially the Sinanju, Kshatriya, and the Unicorn variants), and one of the best soundtracks to anything ever. And I'm dead serious about that last part. The soundtrack is a fucking masterpiece. Examples:

Yes, really. The Gundam franchise still exists to this day mostly because of merchandise and model kits. Remember: The very first Gundam series was cancelled fairly early due to rather bad ratings and was only revived after the merchandise (mainly the model kits) became popular. From then on, the main priority of Bandai/Sunrise with every Gundam series has been pushing model kits and other merchandise.
