Nah the fans would riot, and Super doesn't have good or clever writing =P And according to Toriyama... Goku was always supposed to be this way. Akira Toriyama himself in 1997: “Right. There’s how, basically, Son Goku from Dragon Ball doesn't fight for the sake of others, but because he wants to fight against strong guys. So once Dragon Ball got animated, at any rate, I've always been dissatisfied with the “righteous hero” type portrayal they gave him. It fits his one dimensional character perfectly. And he also loves food just like Beerus.

Yup except I honestly don't think the people running Toonami have any clue what any new anime are until they blow up huge like OPM, MHA or AOT. By that time it's too late to get a good deal or in MHA's case... any deal. So they either waste money on old franchises they've heard of like Dragonball and Gundam, or flail around randomly getting complete crap they've never watched like DW and TG. The next new show is IBO S2. S1 suffered record drop offs in viewer retention. Why would you get another season of something that suffered record drop offs?

Yup they missed the boat on that one big time.

I keep hoping Super will pull some good writing out of its hat and throw us a huge plot twist where Goku ends up being the final bad guy after becoming obsessed with the urge to fight in never ending battles.

I wasn't joking. People hate on SAO but it became an unstoppable juggernaut for a reason. So far SAO > Greed Island... and judging from the ridiculous card game setup and the mountains of exposition being dropped that's not going to change. I've seen Overlord, it's one of the anime along with Gate that I always recommend as shows that would be a great fit for Toonami.

So how did Toonami get Super then? Did Netflix know it was going to be crap and not bid?

Same. It has delivered one good arc so far. ONE. Not a good batting average.

Supposedly the Chimera arc gets dark and isn't terrible. As for this.... SAO did this better.

Looks like HxH has taken another downward turn. The amount of exposition isn't helping either.

So the Dragonballs have already been used 3x as a plot device in Super so far, and now we're adding two sets of SUPER balls to use as a plot device. So bad.

We've already established that Super follows zero rules from previous DBZ shows and just does whatever it wants.
