2022 Midterms: Oh god, not again

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/economic-issues-top-publics-agenda-poll/story?id=85183412 " With inflation on the rise since last fall, Americans have been significantly affected by the rising cost of goods and services. And, more than eight in 10 Americans (83%) now say that the economy is either an extremely or very important issue in determining how they will vote, in the latest ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted using Ipsos' KnowledgePanel. In the poll, 80% of Americans say that inflation is also an extremely or very important factor in how they will vote and for gas prices, it is 74%. Joe Biden's approval ratings for his handling of these key issues are all well underwater, suggesting trouble for the president and Democratic candidates ahead of the midterm. Only 37% approve of Biden’s handling of the economic recovery, and even fewer approve of his handling of inflation (28%) and gas prices (27%)." If these numbers hold then any seat that is a D+10 or less could easily flip GOP. The House is already gone and is absolutely going to the GOP, the only question is by how much. And the Senate is sure looking like a good bet for the GOP as well. National numbers like these are going to create a ton of problems for Democrats in any race. -
Im skeptical of all of it honestly. But something is clearly wrong with Putin when you just look at him. Cancer makes a ton of sense.

I wish Cancer good luck in its war against Putin And thats about the only time you will ever hear me wishing cancer anything other than a horrible death. Fuck Cancer. Except in this one case.

Mass Shootings - The Discussion 4ever
Master-Debater131 replied to Sawdamizer's topic in Current Events
Yeaaaaaaa. Thats not suspicious at all. This also comes after it was proven through audio and video that the door was not propped open, that teachers immediately called 911, and that there is audio from children inside of the room asking for the cops to save them. This entire PD is rotten to the core and needs to be disbanded. -

Mass Shootings - The Discussion 4ever

https://apnews.com/article/uvalde-school-shooting-430b975bbaacce445451e4026cedc171 " Nearly 20 officers stood in a hallway outside of the classrooms during this week’s attack on a Texas elementary school for more than 45 minutes before agents used a master key to open a door and confront a gunman, authorities said Friday." They sat there, in the hallway, as the murderer was killing children. I'll say it again, there is no coming back from this for this police department. Beyond the complete and total failure of the PD, how can any of these cops go on in this town? Every single person in that town knows they stood by as kids were getting killed. How can these cops go to the grocery store or restaurant or bar and get on with life knowing each and every single person there is looking at them with scorn? Every single thing about this is just disgusting. And it keeps getting worse. -

Im doubling down on my claims of corruption. 40% of the budget in that town apparently went to the cops. And this is how they acted? Yea, that just screams corruption. That money was being siphoned off into pockets rather than properly training the cops. There needs to be a full blown independent investigation of the entire department. And if Texas wont do it, the Feds must get involved. -

When I heard that I couldnt believe it. There is no way that is part of the training. "Call out if you need help!" Mother fucker, you know they need help. They need to stay as quite as possible until the shooter is nullified. I am struggling to wrap my head around just how poorly the cops performed. Like, I get some screw ups and mistakes in the heat of the moment. But this is nothing but failure from start to finish. -
Mass Shootings - The Discussion 4ever

Every single one of the cops that stood by outside for 40 minutes needs to be fired, immediately. Disband the entire police force in that town because its clearly either incompetent or corrupt to the point that it doesnt work. Possibly both. Investigate each and every one of them and if there is anything illegal you drag their asses to court. It is literally their job to respond to things like this. And instead of doing their job they tazed and arrested parents who were trying to actually do something. 40 minutes. They stood by for 40 freaking minutes and did more to arrest parents than stop a shooter. There is no coming back from that. If the cops cant do their damn jobs then they have to go. The precedent that is being set by departments across the country is that you cant rely on them and you need to do it yourself. That is not good. It wont be long before you see armed parents either guarding the schools or rushing in with their own rifles when a shooting happens. Parents are going to logically think that if the cops cant do it they need to do it themselves. Thats a recipe for disaster. -

Im not basing anything on a bubble, Im basing it on historic precedent from not that long ago. Hell, if we still had access to the old ASMB I guarantee we would find this exact same argument taking place where someone on the Left said we cant drill our way out of prices while mocking people saying "drill baby drill", and I would be making the exact same points that I am making right now. And, just like back then, I am going to be proven right when elections happen and people who are very much pro-drilling sweep into office. What happens in CO will absolutely impact what happens in CA. We have a Senator up for election this year. If Democrats tank then he could easily be replaced by a GOP Senator who will push pro-oil policies through the Senate for 6+ years. That goes for all Senate races. The House is already going to be much more pro-oil because its absolutely going to flip. Democrats only hope is holding the Senate, and that doesnt look so great. We've been through this exact scenario not that long ago. And its going to play out the exact same way. Democrats will say that there is nothing we can do, that we just have to accept these higher prices, that we need to transition from oil, that its someone else s fault for the prices, and that there is no magic wand to drive down prices. Then the GOP will run against that message, win, and prove that they were lying the entire time. Its amazing how no one wants to learn from history on this issue. Its not new, its happened multiple times before. And its going to play out the exact same way. -

Yup. And thats why everything I said will happen. If anyone thinks otherwise I dare them to argue that the American public will have some sort of altruistic realization and willingly pay more than $6 a gallon for gas to stop the expansion of greenhouse gases. -

No, Im actually dead on for what the definition of Peak Oil is. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/peak_oil.asp "Peak oil refers to the hypothetical point at which global crude oil production will hit its maximum rate, after which production will start to decline. This concept is derived from geophysicist Marion King Hubbert's "peak theory," which states that oil production follows a bell-shaped curve." Increasing greenhouse gases has absolutely no impact on if we are at peak oil or not. If we can continue to increase extraction then we are not at peak. We absolutely have the means to increase oil extraction, and we will do so at some point thanks to political pressure. What the experts say has absolutely no bearing on the political pressure that the American public will put on our elected leaders to drive gas prices down. No politician is going to survive gas prices this high, and they really wont if we hit an average of $6. They will be voted out by the people and replaced by people yelling "drill baby drill!" and then we will see the production of oil increase. If there is one thing that should be painfully obvious at this point its that no amount of experts talking about warnings and doomsday scenarios is going to do anything to meaningfully change the American publics mentality. Americans are demanding lower energy prices, and they will elect people who will make that happen. Climate change will have zero impact on that. -

Thats the point at which it is not possible to increase oil production, or the point where we start to decrease oil production because we no longer have a demand for oil. We've been hearing about it for years but we always find a way to increase production, usually through new technology or extraction methods, and there currently is no easily available, cheap, and accessible good alternative to oil. It was a common talking point during the Obama admin when we were told we had reached peak oil and needed to transition away because there was no possible way to increase production and drive down prices. Then Fracking happened and prices came way down. -

Probably has something to do with the fact that we've been told those lies before by the Obama admin when they told us we had reached "peak oil" and we "cant drill out way out of these gas prices" and we need to "transition out of oil" only to be proven laughably wrong. We didn't reach peak oil, we absolutely drilled our way out of those prices, and we didn't need to be forced to transition out of oil. We can, and will, do it again. Its just a matter if its during the Biden admin or during a GOP admin in 2024. Judging by the actions of the current admin it sure looks like it will be by a GOP admin in 2024, unless a GOP led congress forces Bidens hand. -

https://www.barrons.com/articles/gasoline-prices-how-high-51652816252?tesla=y How High Will Gas Prices Go? $6 a Gallon, According to One Prediction. If gas really does hit $6 a gallon nation wide this summer then Biden and Democrats are beyond screwed. Its already looking like a Red Wave year, but throwing this on top of all the other existing conditions would turn November into that scene from the Shining when the elevator doors open. As it is any seat that is a D+5 or less is very much a target for the GOP. If things get much worse that will likely turn into any seat that is a D+10 or less. The House is already gone and is going to be in GOP hands, the only question is by how large a margin. The Senate is much more up in the air, but even that isnt looking so good for Democrats. As it is we are setting new record prices each day. -
