Thats a big deal for Democrats. Montana is a red state where Tester has proven himself a very competent candidate. If he didnt run it would all but guarantee the seat flips to the GOP. Now however, its a pure tossup. The GOP should win this seat, but they have proven utterly incompetent when it comes to fielding quality candidates. If, and thats an absolutely massive if, the GOP nominate even a halfway decent candidate they should flip this seat in 24. If they go with a pure MAGA idiot though then Tester should hold this seat for another 6 years.

Theres also the fact that China was not bound by this treaty so while we have been playing it straight, Russia has been cheating and China has been openly developing the kind of weapons that were banned under this treaty. So if anything, this is actually good for us. It puts us on even footing with Russia, who has been cheating, and China, who is openly developing these kinds of weapons. So yea, Im going to say that nothing bad has come of Bidens trip to Kyiv yet.

Putler had a speech last night. If it wasnt for the fact that he is sitting on thousands of nukes it would actually have been hilarious. The man is completely deranged. He blamed the US for starting the war, said Nazis run the world, committed to basically ending Ukrainian sovereignty, and said everything is perfectly fine in Russia. \ It was nothing short of the ramblings of a deranged lunatic who is nearing the end of his life.

While I do agree that all of the footage should be released, this is a dumb way to do it. Theres precisely zero chance that the videos arent selectively released and edited in a way to try and downplay what happened on the 6th. Thats the entire purpose of doing it this way though, so I suspect that McCarthy is going to get what he wants out of this.

Greene calls for National Divorce
Master-Debater131 replied to matrixman124's topic in Current Events
National Divorce isnt anything new. Its been floating around for a while now on various parts of the internet. Conservative blogs and liberal subreddits bring it up fairly regularly, usually when something political doesnt go their way. This may be the first time someone as high profile as MTG has mentioned it though. The entire thought of it is dumb as hell. Its some fantasy world where the Red and Blue can simply split in some super awesome way thats simply not realistic. -
Thats exactly what they decided. Way cheaper to burn it off and spend the next 20+ years fighting it in court than to properly clean it up now.
-
I dont know the thought process in not declaring an emergency, but it was wrong. And yes, the train was intentionally ignited. They decided it was better to burn it all off rather than try and clean up the liquid.
-
Call me crazy, but if I was the Governor of a state and I saw a massive train carrying highly dangerous chemicals light on fire and create a plume of smoke so large that it punctured through the clouds I would be declaring a disaster that second and asking the Feds to send in support.

Great move to do this now. Its the week before the anniversary of the war and dates are huge for Putin and other fascist dictators. Its also a major "fuck you" to Putler because it shows no one is afraid of him and that we are going to continue to support Ukraine. Theres been people giving Biden a hard time about taking this long to get there and yea, i dont buy it. Its a lot easier to get the leaders of European nations into Kyiv than to get POTUS across the Atlantic and into Kyiv.

I wouldn't be surprised. This kind of thing happens all the time and the end result is almost always the little guy getting fucked. It will sadly be the same story here. Massive spikes in illness and cancers, decades of lawsuits, and in the end they'll be lucky to get a fraction of what they deserve. I'de almost guarantee that right now there is a meeting at the railroad with the highest levels of management figuring out how to minimize costs and shift blame. Probably some hush hush calls between them and the Govt as well. Railroads are some of the most powerful corporations in this country, and they are about to wield that power to punish anyone who could increase their costs.
-
Its absolutely about the money. The railroad is going to try to pass blame off to someone, state gov will do the same, and feds will do the same. Its going to wind up spending 20 years in courts to pay the victims a tiny fraction of what they actually deserve. Not to mention the inevitable cancer cluster that you know is coming. Its really hard to understate just how horrible this is going to wind up being in both the short and long term.

It feels like the entire government is MIA right now. Other than being told its all safe in spite of what everyone is experiencing and seeing no one seems to want to step up.
-
Hopefully its just oil. If its the vinyl chloride causing this then the damage really is going to be extraordinary

Water isnt supposed to do that. Im not exactly buying the "its safe" talking point we keep hearing.

‘Like turkeys at a shooting range’: Mauling of Russian forces in Donetsk hotspot may signal problems to come https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/13/europe/russia-ukraine-vuhledar-donetsk-fiasco-intl/index.html " The scenes are chaotic: Russian tanks veering wildly before exploding or driving straight into minefields, men running in every direction, some on fire, the bodies of soldiers caught in tank tracks. Russian military bloggers are calling it a fiasco, and worse. These scenes have been recorded by Ukrainian military drones over the past two weeks around the town of Vuhledar in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, where successive Russian assaults have failed. The Vuhledar debacle suggests chronic failures in the command and tactics of the Russians as they gear up for a spring offensive. If replicated elsewhere on the long military front in Donetsk and Luhansk, such failings could jeopardize the Kremlin’s plans to seize more territory. About 20 videos geolocated by CNN show basic tactical blunders in an area that’s open and flat, where Ukrainian spotters on higher ground can direct artillery strikes and where minefields are worsening Russian casualties." Russias spring offensive may already be falling apart. Lets hope thats the case and it really does collapse.

Ohio isn't just a place that is currently experiencing one of the worst environmental disasters in US history, its also an old song! No but really. Ohio is currently dealing what can only be described as a truly historic disaster. It all started with a train derailment and has just spiraled from there. People are reporting burning eyes, coughing, and dying animals for hundreds of miles around the disaster. Most of the mainstream media is also silent on the story. One reporter tried to get answers, and he was arrested.

So China is flying a balloon over Montana apparently..
Master-Debater131 replied to atomicinumatt's topic in Current Events
Oh I trust the US Military. They are very good at what they do. Its basically everything else about our government that I dont trust. And to Pats point, I read the same thing in a few places. Once it was over the US it made a lot of sense to take it down off of Carolina. -

I would hope so, but I also have very little faith in our government. All the secrecy around this hasnt helped. I get why they are being quiet about it, but that just makes it seem worse when we get leaks like this to the media. -

We cant blow it up off of their coast, but we can if it drifts close to Hawaii or once it got close to Alaska. Then we are perfectly within our rights to blow it up. The backhack theory is one that makes the most sense to me. As they are spying on us, we are doing the same thing to them. If we gathered no intel from this incident then it would be a total failure on our part. -

Well, this changes things a bit. If its true then its pretty bad. We knew that this thing was going to spy on us, and we let it drift over the entire US. Pretty hard to defend that decision. -

Lol. We went from letting China fly a balloon over the entire country to shooting down commercial crafts. Im not going to criticize the move to shoot this stuff down. After the blowback on the China balloon, and the general confusion around the new objects, its the right call. That said, if this whole incident doesnt perfectly describe American policy I dont know what does. "Do nothing, do nothing, do nothing, still do nothing, HOLY SHIT OVERREACT!!!" -

Apparently we shot yet another thing down. WTF is going on anymore. How many of these things are there? -
This game is so damn fun. Im like 10 hours in and just enjoying the hell out of it. Theres so many little things that just add up to a great world. A few of my friends wound up picking it up today after hearing me talk about it. Its really an enjoyable game.

They dont launch lawnchairs into space, they launch dildos. Seriously, it was a problem for a while there where people were strapping sex toys and a go pro to a balloon, and launching the damn thing way the hell into the atmosphere. Theres a video on youtube with more than 100k views showing just this happening.
