  1. I am indifferent about professional players taking part. I would enjoy Olympic hockey with or without them. (2010 Vancouver led me to liking international competition hockey, which is a little niche I know.) If I had to choose, I would be in favor of pro players coming to the Olympics just for the reason it's fun to see the most famous players on such a big stage. The other thing 2010 Vancouver did for me for make me realize I actually like curling.
  2. My favorite Olympics were the 2010 Vancouver winter games. I loved the Canada versus U.S. subplot that ran through it. The hockey tournaments had some of the best hockey I've ever seen.
  3. Trump backed out of the debate on ABC. He's making an excuse *and* trying to invent a second debate to cover for him backing out.
  4. Plus, it's so patently stupid. The end of it was: "Do you identify as a woman?" "Yes." "Were you born female?" "Yes." It took five minutes to get to the truth of it.
  5. Kamala committed a coup. Drag queens. Kamala isn't really black. Might as well try that talking point about anti-Semitism since nothing seems to be working.
  6. National polls by date of release. A lot of blue Harris leads on the right side of chart.
  7. Claiming a woman isn't really a woman.
  8. A non-Trump Republican would have won 2016 by a wide margin. It's because of his awfulness that he lost the popular vote and almost the electoral college.
  9. So, when Trump has his downfall, it's like when the bad guy from Ghost gets taken away by the scary ghost creatures at the end of the movie. I'm unsure if I want to watch this.
  10. Drag queens and questioning an African-American woman's blackness. MD begins their post with "it's so fun to watch..." but I don't think MD is having much fun.
  11. I'm really close to being so confident that we're going to survive this that I tune out the negativity completely and just focus on the positive. That's not the same as complacency. It's just being motivated by promise and possibility instead of fear and desperation. In practice this is ignoring Trump and his supporters completely. He'll still exist after he loses, but that doesn't mean I ever have to think about him again. I'm sure the evil he represents will come back at some point, but I'll cross that bridge when it comes.
  12. Harris leads in 7 new natl polls: 49%-45% (+4) Civiqs 49%-46% (+3) Leger (was +7 Trump) 48%-46% (+2) FAU (was +5 Trump) 46%-44% (+2) Econ/YouGov (was +3 Trump) 45%-43% (+2) Redfield & Wilton 44%-42% (+2) Angus Reid 47%-46% (+1) Morn Consult
  13. Harris takes 4-point lead in Pennsylvania; Casey up 5 on McCormick: poll Kamala Harris, Sen. Bob Casey ahead in new Pennsylvania poll (thehill.com)
  14. Someone I respect argued the movement in the election towards Harris is a return to fundamentals. For this whole year, there has been a contradiction between the fundamentals of politics, which showed a lean towards a slight Democratic win, and the polls, which showed the Republican Trump slightly ahead of the Democratic Biden. Biden dropping out, and Harris entering, was the trigger for these two things to come back into alignment. Would this alignment have occurred eventually if Biden stayed in the race? My guess is yes. I was betting on it, and I wasn't the only one. G. Elliott Morris, who now runs 538, strongly implied there was eventually going to be some dramatic movement in the race and that was why he was keeping his election prediction model close to a 50-50 odds.
  15. I really love Trump and his supporters can't handle being thought of as weird.
  16. No Democrat uses "democrat" as an adjective.
  17. I've been a little worried that if Vance gets criticized too much, Trump might get rid of him and choose a new running mate. He has to hang on until states start printing ballots and then he can't be replaced.
  18. I'm leaning towards Josh Shapiro being Harris' running mate for no other reason than he could help win Pennsylvania and thusly the presidency. And that's all important.
  19. When Trump loses in November, I won't think about him again until the day he reports to prison.
