I usually like tasks. I like figuring stuff out and refining a process. I hate workplace politics and the general workplace mold of - like management/structure etc. I feel like most businesses barely function, but it's enough for them to count it as a win. And it's easier to flump along than it is to examine things and look at real data instead of - like trying to twist data to fit what stockholders need to see, or so the CEO feels good about the job you're doing, etc. I feel like most jobs tend to be fairly simple at their core. But tend to become difficult, complicated, and unappealing when you mire them in what is basically the accepted business/management structure. so - I usually like my basic job. but I usually hate the place I work for as represented by the structure it adopts.

you may or may not have noticed that I haven't had time to post news and updates, that's because I've been busy with other stuff, and also because of issues with users and volunteers careening out of control. Been thinking about all of it and here is the result of that stuff: 1. If you have any issues with staff, let me know and I will look into it. 2. If we have issues with you, we need to be able to talk to you. So be open to that. 3. we are having some issues with spambots. Luckily, none have actually made it past registration. But we're coming up with ideas to limit access to the board for such accounts. haven't quite hit on the perfect solution yet. But we'll be playing around with some stuff, including "invisible ranks" that are assigned that allow access to the board. This is by no means fully functional or anything, but if you notice extra weird little ranks on your profile, don't delete those. They may be "access/pass" type ranks. Not even sure we'll end up needing to do anything with them, and I haven't finished assigning them. But that's what they are if you happen to notice an extra rank on your profile (I think the only test one right now is "media bastard") don't worry about it, it's a test thing. 4. Finally, I'll be updating the mod standards slightly again. And will update the moderation thread in here soon. The basic idea is: we're sticking to spoiler tags/content warnings. But, if a user isn't accepting the tag, and re-edits the post, we'll just delete the post. Dumpster Fires has not been deleted, it's just off board for the moment, I may still bring it back. If so, I'll try to clearly label it, maybe even restrict access to it somewhat? not sure.

I only had a short shift today so was going to work on board shit and then I just completely blew it off to watch the inauguration and now I'm just completely blowing it off because nothing. After tomorrow I have a bunch more days off next week so I'll have plenty of time for that noise. plenty of time.

also you have an update thread in FFA, I don't see the need to keep posting new threads in there, when you can post whatever new info in the update thread that's already there. I don't want to have to keep cleaning out the FFA floats of announcement threads that don't technically belong there. The FFA Update thread is a good idea, and some users on the board actually asked for that, so that seems fine. but otherwise, there just doesn't seem to me at least much point in continually making new threads about board stuff and cluttering FFA with floats instead of using that thread.

yeah - I'm not sure when we'll have an update. Friday is when KN gets back. Not sure when he's going to start going through logs and stuff. And even then, honestly, odds are it's not some big dramatic deal anyhow. so - like it's almost like you're hyping some big announcement that will just end up being "yeah dunno, server got knocked offline by something". just be aware that - we're not sure exactly when we'll get some info, and even then, it's highly likely that it'll be pretty boring info.

basically instead of posting a separate news thread for each individual item, there's just going to be one single "news feed" type thread. the observation being, if there's like 10 new news stories one day, and 2 the next, and 5 the next, it tends to create this folder of all news items with no replies, just views. And then in turn that pushes all the actual discussion threads off the front page. so doing it this way will allow us to post the news, as much or as little as there is for any given day, and all the regular discussion threads won't get displaced quite so badly. If you see a topic you'd like to discuss in the news feed, you can always make a new thread about it if there isn't already one on the board.

It's okay to remake a thread that got moved to Dumpster Fires. The reason for that is - like moving a thread isn't necessarily so much about the topic as about what happens to a topic after posted. so - like if you post something and a bunch of people start arguing in it and it becomes stupid and whatever, it may get moved to DF. but that doesn't mean the OP can't attempt to remake the topic in hopes that the same thing won't happen. Of course, if the same thing does happen, that one will also probably be moved off the main board.
