  1. Aronofsky, it's those pesky skys My husband gets Tarkovsky mixed up with Tartakovsky, the creator of Dexters Laboratory
  2. I also recommend Tarkovsky's film Stalker, which was a big influence on Annihilation, so long as you have 2.5 hours to spare on a movie that moves you at an intentionally tense but slow pace.
  3. Annihilation, Authority, Acceptance They do stand alone, but trust me, information that seems small in a later book is occasionally a game changer for the preceding book.
  4. Annihilation was the last book I really sped through, longing for the next sentence. It reveals itself as surprisingly character heavy despite the lovecraftian elements and mystery. There's two other books, making up the whole of the Southern Reach Trilogy, each one covering different characters and storylines, but interconnected enough to make reading them in order worth it.
  5. I'm at ends with how much is different seemingly, including the protagonist's characterization. However, I did enjoy Ex Machina a whole lot and loved the book, and and willing to gamble on differences between source material.
  6. Yeah. It's an anxiety thing.
  7. I don't forget the routine, but I practice conversations and forget that the hot water isn't forever.
  8. It's incredible.
  9. I mean, yeah, but only because it's damned funny to me.
  10. Yes! Thank you!
  11. Nuttered boodles and ticken chenders only.
  12. I'm crying laughing now.
  13. I looked it up via definition. It doesn't really sound that interesting to me. Not even repulsive, just excessive yet plain.
  14. Well, not before now, but give me a few minutes alone and I'm sure it would become the new hot item depleting my bank account.
  15. It's the New Year, so I'm staying on top of reading more daily (Read Banana Yoshimoto's Kitchen and speeding through Jac Jemc's The Grip of It now), trying to get my act together to start an arts podcast, and finishing the first draft of a novel that comprised my thesis defense.
  16. I'd pay for fetish stuff. If I wanted to watch two people just have sex, I'd just find my husband and a mirror. Fetish stuff (specifically fantastical fetish stuff) is less easy to obtain, and niche work doesn't have the same industry support as basic porn, so I imagine if more people steal that stuff, it'd eventually just disappear. I could be wrong, but I'd rather support that thing I like, than take the risk.
  17. If AI can pass the Turing Test, it qualifies as human? I mean, I'm all for granting something with that level of sentience a pass at being a person, but what a strange thing that would do for so many things, species classification included. That also likely severely redraws the parameters of the uncanny valley graph.
  18. Yeah, I've enjoyed glassdoor at least in terms of reviews. Though like any resume/career website, it's still feels clunky regarding layout.
  19. Especially nailgun.

    Who's Ann and who's Leslie?
  21. Poorly.
  22. Do you have a spare badge and gun?
  23. I see graphs like this for uncanny valley all the time and wonder what lies beyond human likeness -- how the graph might continue past "healthy person" also slightly weirded out by "healthy" Is an unhealthy person less human? But I'm also curious about the bunraku puppet, how a directly-human-controlled figure comes closer to human likeness than an android, which ideally displays autonomy and ideally passes the Turing test.
  24. Come here and give me a hug. I love you. You know that right? I want to see you succeed. I also know you can be trying harder, because I know you are capable of better, and have proven yourself time and time again to exceed even MY expectations. If you're ever having a hard time in any of your classes, you can talk to me. You can ask for help. But I've received those phone calls from Ms. Lorraine. She says you ain't even turning your shit in sometimes, and you're better than that. So please, take your schooling seriously. Okay?
