  1. This is a interesting topic of discussion since there could be many interpretations for why life is cheap in that world. Personally I never paid attention to it being a problem until the show started airing on Toonami and many first-time viewers pointed it out. Until it got pointed out enough that I started thinking that it was a legitimate writing flaw. Which would be odd because I can remember any significant deaths in the series being written with impact and weight to them, imo. Not to discredit those opinions, I think I understood what they meant when I'd watched the penultimate ep of IBO and the first three eps of Aldnoah Zero. Honestly I felt a bit sick at all the unceremonious deaths on display, so I understand where they're coming from. Personally I'm ok with HxH's treatment of death since even though it's basically a mirror version of our reality with fantasy stuff, it's pretty much just not a great place to live.
  2. This place is so cancerous, no offense but holy shit. Thank god this cesspool at least has some worth serving as a good containment zone. Sorry to derail this topic but it started to get to me and no, it's not about HxH. The course of this thread went exactly as I'd expected it would, because like time the discussion for this show is a flat circle. I have nothing else to say, don't take it personally and if you're not part of the problem I'm not talking to you, good day.
  3. I actually haven't considered that, good point. So taking these things into account it should be obvious what the best pick is.
  4. Do you really think that a show with 776+ eps, that adapts a single manga chapter per episode now, has a number of different filler arcs and budget animation up the wazoo is easier to get into over the other two shows? Notice that I didn't mention the actual quality of the series just the barriers for the average watchers. I'm not necessarily saying you're wrong, but c'mon, at that point just read the manga if you want to experience the story. But early One Piece (where ever Enies Lobby ends) is definitely worth watching and hits all the right notes if you're looking for a good shonen even if it had most of the mentioned problems which makes it nearly unwatchable today.
  5. A really cruel but obvious prank would be having the normal weekday Adult Swim lineup in place of Toonami, maybe have specific Tom bumps for the shows if they want to twist the knife.
  6. Groan* ^You're right though about HxH going nowhere, because it's on hiatus.
  7. Ben, my mane if you don't like it now I would heavily recommend dropping it, because you don't have to like it and evident from your rants you don't. Personally I think that you would come out smarter than the people who had watched the entirety of it and then said that they didn't like it. But if they actually do a promo for Yorknew maybe that would pique your interest since anything's possible, maybe. He also wrote Level E in between Yuyu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter, which is a legitimately funny sci-fi comedy series and it also has an anime. The man isn't limited to writing just action you know and the Gon vs Hisoka fight from the last two eps was YYH as hell. You know I had this exact same point saved if anyone ever said that Hunter x Hunter was a failure in America based on its ratings performance. The fact that it ended 2+ years ago and sometimes is even ahead of shows that are currently airing this season is crazy.
  8. That's why I said "ending", as in he wrote it like, "here's the ending to the main story you can get off this ride now if you're satisfied with that". Being realistic I know the story won't get a conclusion for a long time but I'm also realistic thinking enough to know that Togashi won't leave it unfinished, he has said that he had an idea for another manga after he's done with HxH. You say that but it doesn't the fact that in reality he is checking off these unresolved things and that the current arc in the manga is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious arcs in recent memory, no hyperbole.
  9. Huh. Well the more you know.
  10. I also want to say that I'm not against the idea of a mature anime block because I think that would kick turbo-ass, I just don't want that in exchange for the block now. Personally I think that this is the strongest it has been ever since 2014, with the exception of Shippuden. G4tv also had a anime block when it was at its peak, with only video game review shows during the day, and Cinematech and anime like Paranoia Agent and Cromartie Highschool at midnight. That was the time to be alive.
  11. I would say so but if this does head into political discussion I will gladly tune this thread out. Sketch with another strong argument and to add on to that, remember that anime block on Chiller from a couple years ago? It had a mature selection of shows like Devil May Cry, Black Blood Brothers, Is This a Zombie?, and Tokyo Majin and yet it bombed and died in a less than a month. Of course this was mainly due to boneheaded decisions by the Network like lack of advertising, a overall less than stellar budget lineup and basically being on a channel not many people knew existed. But the point is good luck running a late-night anime block without some of the popular hooks we have now.
  12. Seriously, don't you guys ever get tired of living in a world of delusion? This isn't directed at the Toonami will be canceled part but literally everything else you wrote.
  13. The series has an "ending", which is exactly where this adaptation leaves off on in the final episode and aside from some huge hanging plot threads it's a satisfying conclusion. The main objective of the show is resolved and in this current arc of the manga the plot goes on while also cleaning up those loose ends, so it feels like Togashi is aware and avoiding another rushed Yuyu Hakusho ending.
  14. I wish that Ishida Sui of Tokyo Ghoul and Penisman fame would take over as the artist and just have Togashi write the drafts and story. Since he from his own words is a huge fan of HxH, has characters in his work who have been inspired by some in HxH and even drew fanart and an entire semi-canon backstory for Hisoka. I really hope this happens as it seems like Tokyo Ghoul:Re is gearing up for its final arc so that would free Mr.Ishida up from his own weekly series. Personally I think that the series took a plunge in quality after the Exterminate Tsukiyama Operation Arc, both in art and story, so Ishida could use a break from doing that. It could also be valuable for Mr.Ishida as he could learn from his senior mangaka who he holds in very high regard. Togashi and Ishida Interview-http://hunterxhunter.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:MrGenial11/Yoshihiro_Togashi_x_Sui_Ishida_(Tokyo_Ghoul)_interview?useskin=oasis Hisoka Oneshot, it should be mentioned that the artwork for TG looks nothing like this, as this is the unfinished draft posted online-https://mangastream.com/r/one_shot/Hisoka%20Origin%20Story/3450/1
  15. Yeah that's most likely it, but still, what a minor coincidence.
  16. I would assume that they're showing these eps to built hype for the start of the Gon vs Hisoka fight tomorrow. Unless this is just a random showcase but I kinda doubt it since that's such a fan-favorite moment, even then it's still pretty sweet.
  17. Almost everything did much worse than I had expected and yet somehow I'm not surprised, nor am I worried. I think that these ratings are just the signs of an awkward transitional period, given a few weeks I'm sure things will fall back into their regular groove. Even though this is kinda the norm now.
  18. Well this kinda escalated
  19. I know it's a known fact that Hunter x Hunter fans are incredibly defensive and overrate it as this "Masterful Deconstruction of Shonen series"! But c'mon, you said that it has "none of those things", when a subject like the Phantom Troupe has been built since Episode friggin' 1. Hey, hey. You don't need to get snarky.
  20. Which is everything HxH does, so that statement is entirely incorrect. Two examples of "hooks" we have in this arc is nen and Gon's match with Hisoka. Not only that but in the overbranching story there is Kurapika's vendetta against the Spiders, Hisoka being a double agent, the true Hunter Exam and Ging.
  21. Another week, another week of hate because the show is a bit unconventional and doesn't have flashy action to glue eyeballs to the screen... Oh well. Edit- I admit that's pretty dismissive and Ben gave kinda of a good point about the main characters.
  22. Good introduction. This ep has a pretty memorable scene in it.
  23. I feel like this is going to be the second coming of Bleach, hopefully it will be just as enjoyable to watch.
