  10. Four weeks ago, an asinine Rick & Morty stunt temporarily shortened Toonami to 3.5 hours again, only for one night. Well that truncated lineup has now made its way to the Marathon Stream, and while it's true there are fewer shows, at least they repeat more often! 1. Dragonball Z Kai #111 - An Eerie Entity. 11. I hate that Ani-Monday on Sci-Fi/Syfy went belly up 6 years ago, but it's also pretty cool that Syfy occasionally pays tribute to the world of anime with their original productions!
  12. The stream did not advance Wednesday or Thursday night, so it's official: we're getting Episodes 14-18 all 3 days of the week Tuesday evening through Friday evening. It's unknown whether or not if not for the glitch we would have gotten 14-18 Monday-Wednesday evening, and 19-23 Wednesday evening through Friday evening. (And of course, you'd still want to watch 24-26 at this point!)
  13. Well, it's official: from here on out, the NBA will not affect Toonami at all, as there are no Playoffs games on Saturdays anymore, or at least not for the next 3 weeks: https://www.bing.com/search?q=nba+playoffs+2017&FORM=EDGNNC&PC=DCTS From what I understand, the finals are usually on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. However, there is still one major sports event which threatens to mitigate Toonami's absolute dominance of ratings and trending: The NFL Draft. It runs noon to 8 PM, so while it won't affect Toonami directly, it probably will beat Samurai Jack in the day's cable originals, and moreover it will also most likely still be trending when Dragon Ball Super airs in primetime. It remains to be seen if it will still affect Toonami in trending despite ending 3 hours earlier, but both last year and in 2015, the NFL Draft did indeed beat the top cable original of Toonami: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-100-saturday-cable-originals-5-2-2015.html http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-4-30-2016.html However, it should be noted that DBZ Kai DID beat the NFL Draft in 2015; it just wasn't considered a cable original so it didn't make the chart. Moreover, the earliest charting show of Toonami was at 12:30 AM both 1 and 2 years ago. By contrast, Toonami's leading cable original is at 11 PM this year (Samurai Jack), so it just might have what it takes to beat the NFL Draft. Only time, and enough eyeballs on Toonami, will tell! It should also be noted that the last 2 years NBA Playoffs were the top cable original on Saturday night, but that will certainly NOT be the case this year! Finally, Samurai Jack did kinda lackluster last night, dipping pretty majorly (0.07 18-49) from American Dad, and then Bob's Burgers recovered 0.10 18-49. Not a very encouraging result if the timeslot is to be occupied by another Toonami show when Jack ends. http://programminginsider.com/ratings/final-nationals/wednesday-final-nationals-black-ish-dips-series-lows-back-back-airings-abc/ The Wednesday 10 PM rerun is now officially averaging just below a million total viewers (999K), and also under 600K in 18-49, as an estimated 591K adults were watching, and the margin of error is about 7K, so yep, that's definitively below. Hopefully it will do better next week because I would really like Action Wednesdays to be a permanent thing.
  14. I think this might be far-fetched, but I also believe that maybe 8-9 PM as a Prime hour might be coming back soon. Perhaps they can put Samurai Jack Season 5 reruns at 8:30 and see if that manages to gain from DBS? And if that's the case, then maybe try 8-10? It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. But I believe the following is probable for June: 8 PM Dragon Ball Super 8:30 Samurai Jack Season 5 9 PM Rick & Morty x2 10 PM Family Guy x2 11 PM Attack on Titan S2 11:30 Dragon Ball Super 12 AM DBZ KFC 12:30 Gundam IBO S2 1 AM Tokyo Ghoul 1:30 Hunter x Hunter 2 AM Gundam Unicorn 2:30 Shippuden 3 AM GITS Maybe they would actually give the Super/Jack hour Toonami bumpers this time?
  15. Why eliminate the 8 PM airing when it's been pretty successful? That's like cutting off your nose to spite your face! You really think more people would watch the 11:30 airing if there was no 8 PM airing or if the 8 PM airing was an encore instead of a premiere? Funny thing is, they had the perfect opportunity to restructure that on April 1st by premiering the 13th episode of DBS after the R&M stunt and they blew it. I do however believe the 8 PM airing should be given Toonami packaging, or at least a full battery of topicals for shows coming up in Toonami other than Super. (Right now that would be Samurai Jack and Attack on Titan) https://cnschedulearchive.tumblr.com/post/159648212235/heres-the-cartoon-network-schedule-for-monday This handy little Tumblr blog I discovered is a nice repository for CN schedules, and shows that Dragon Ball Super's lead-in on 4/22 was none other than the blockbuster movie How To Train Your Dragon, a movie that appeals to both kids and 18-49 year olds alike. No WONDER DBS kicked more ass than it has in a good while! This week Charlie & The Chocolate Factory will be DBS's lead-in, so it seems it stands to keep doing better than if it were prefaced by reruns of TTGO as it was the week before last (Easter weekend, April 15th). But the lead-in the last time DBS at 8 PM cracked 500K 18-49 on 2/25/17, a week that it also got over 1 million viewers, the movie RIO was the lead-in!
  16. I wouldn't break up the DB hour. I would have AOT S2 at 11:30 and dropped Super to 12:30. But I have a theory about 8:30 on Saturday nights beginning in June, and that theory is another rerun of S5 of Samurai Jack. I think that would do OK especially if Toonami loses 11 PM and doesn't do a marathon of SJS5 on Memorial Day.
  17. Super did DAMN good at 8 PM though! An audience of 519K Adults 18-49 with like 313K of those between 18 and 34 is pretty insane for 8 PM Saturday night! And of course Bob's Burgers lost from there! But that MIGHT not be completely on Super's merit; does anyone know what Cartoon Network was playing at 7:30 PM that night? The problem is Super encores have no business being at 11:30. I'd say 12:30 is more fitting, especially if we're going to be in "filler" hell for a while... Too bad Toei is still apparently preventing that from happening, so still, #FuckToei
  18. Currently there are still 2 NBA Playoffs Round 1 Game 7's up against Toonami on Saturday night: Raptors at Bucks and Spurs at Grizzlies. Both of the visiting teams have 3 wins. If the home team wins either, it will force a Game 7 on Saturday night between the teams for the decisive 4th win. Two home victories would likely mean the NBA Playoffs cut deep enough into Toonami to do some more damage. Also, seems I misspoke that there were 2 NBA games coinciding with Toonami last week. Turns out it was an NBA game and an NHL game.
  19. That's what I'm thinking. I also have a theory that one reason they're doing this is that Sentai's about to start streaming it on Anime Strike and they're losing internet rights to the whole thing--but I don't even know how they can lose rights to Season 2!
  20. It turns out that tonight (Tuesday night) it went back to The Big O, but this time the first part of Season 2 instead (Episodes 14-18). I guess Season 1's streaming Monday afternoon was just a glitch after all, but it's one I'm damn glad I caught!
  21. Ok, let's wrap this week up, shall we? http://programminginsider.com/ratings/final-nationals/saturday-final-nationals-espn-nba-playoff-doubleheader-jumps-nearly-40-percent-year-ago-levels/ TOTAL VIEWERS RETENTION 8:00 PM Dragon Ball Super 879,000 10:30 PM Family Guy 1,246,000 11:00 PM Samurai Jack 1,330,000 (106.74%) 11:30 PM Dragon Ball Super 991,000 (74.51%) 12:00 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 976,000 (98.49%) 12:30 AM Attack On Titan Season 2 826,000 (84.63%) 1:00 AM Tokyo Ghoul 712,000 (86.20%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 659,000 (92.56%) 2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 577,000 (87.56%) 2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 547,000 (94.80%) 3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 487,000 (89.03%) TOTAL VIEWERS AVERAGE - 789,444 Dragon Ball Super falls under a million total viewers at 11:30 for the first time ever. Ouch! And I've already mentioned how disappointing that Season Premiere for Attack on Titan is. At least Jack still gains on its Family Guy lead-in to the tune of 7% in total viewers, but... Samurai Jack gained on its Family Guy lead-in in 18-49 by ALMOST TWENTY PERCENT! And Dragon Ball Super at 8 PM has also officially hit a new high in 18-49! Unfortunately that wasn't the case for the 11:30 encore during Toonami, as it had the worst retention of the night and was beaten by DBZ KFC. Then AOTS2 had the second-worst retention of the night, contrary to what had been predicted. Maybe they SHOULD have just run one episode of JoJo a week instead, as not even a 3-week-after-Japan broadcast dub has much of a premium versus a huge NBA Playoff game. Fortunately, it is most likely that the 2nd episode won't even be up against the NBA Playoffs! Finishing off the wrap-up, the running averages: CURRENT SHOW AVERAGES Total Viewers Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - 881,000 (15 episodes) Samurai Jack - 1,361,000 (6 episodes) Dragon Ball Super (11:30 PM) - 1,160,133 (15 episodes) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 1,034,375 (16 episodes) Attack On Titan Season 2 - 826,000 (1 episode) Tokyo Ghoul - 753,000 (4 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 832,854 (48 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 701,875 (16 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 862,687 (155 episodes) Ghost In The Shell HD - 520,667 (12 episodes) Adults 18-49 Dragon Ball Super (8 PM, Estimate) - 428,533 (15 episodes) Samurai Jack - 875,833 (6 episodes) Dragon Ball Super (11:30 PM) - 706,933 (15 episodes) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 627,563 (16 episodes) Attack On Titan Season 2 - 523,000 (1 episode) Tokyo Ghoul - 473,500 (4 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 495,375 (48 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 427,813 (16 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 478,621 (138 episodes) Ghost In The Shell HD - 324,417 (12 episodes) Adults 18-34 (Estimated) Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - 275,214 (14 episodes) Samurai Jack - 600,333 (6 episodes) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 426,750 (16 episodes) Attack On Titan Season 2 - 347,000 (1 episode) Tokyo Ghoul - 322,750 (4 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 293,000 (16 episodes) To sum up, AOTS2 may be off to a rough start, but hopefully it will begin to improve next week!
  22. Yeah, that was surprisingly decent for what I've heard about the dub. Would at least do well at 2:30 AM with other older shows! But unfortunately, Attack On Titan has returned with its lowest premiere episode ever in total viewers (though it HAS been slightly lower in Adults 18-49 even in 11:30 premieres in 2014), as it seems JoJo has done REAL damage to the 12:30 timeslot, and AOT needs to recapture its audience. http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-4-22-2017.html 4/22/2017 Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - #11 (+1) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.46 Estimated 18-34 - 313,000 ( 35.61% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.40 Estimated 18-49 - 513,000 ( 58.36% ) Total Viewers - 879,000 4/22/2017 Samurai Jack - #6 (STEADY) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.82 Estimated 18-34 - 557,000 ( 41.88% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.68 Estimated 18-49 - 872,000 ( 65.56% ) Total Viewers - 1,330,000 4/22/2017 DBZ Kai: Final Chapters - #7 (STEADY) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.64 Estimated 18-34 - 435,000 ( 44.57% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.50 Estimated 18-49 - 641,000 ( 65.68% ) Total Viewers - 976,000 4/22/2017 Attack On Titan - #10 (-1) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.51 Estimated 18-34 - 347,000 ( 42.01% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.41 Estimated 18-49 - 526,000 ( 63.68% ) Total Viewers - 826,000 4/22/2017 Tokyo Ghoul - #13 (-2) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.42 . Estimated 18-34 - 285,000 ( 40.03% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.35 Estimated 18-49 - 449,000 ( 63.06% ) Total Viewers - 712,000 4/22/2017 Gundam Unicorn - #24 (-3) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.29 Estimated 18-34 - 197,000 ( 34.14% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.27 Estimated 18-49 - 346,000 ( 59.97% ) Total Viewers - 577,000 THE GOOD: Dragon Ball Super at 8 PM kicked a surprising amount of ass, tying its 18-49 high from Episode 8 on February 25th for a REALLY funny episode. And Samurai Jack has indeed tied a number in 18-49 not seen since Week 2 on March 18th! THE BAD: But I guess since more people in the target demo who watch it had already seen it, they didn't return for the 11:30 PM airing of Dragon Ball Super and that in turn hurt DBZ KFC, but the drop from that to AOT is by far the most baffling considering the amount of hype its return had. I expected a mild increase, but both the overall number and the demos plunged. THE UGLY: Tokyo Ghoul deserves better than less than 300K 18-34, but even though that episode of Gundam Unicorn was surprisingly low on action and REALLY talk-heavy, it deserved to at least get 200K 18-34, right? But it hit a low that I haven't seen since I started keeping up with 18-34 ratings again 2 years ago. The worst is actually how GOOD everything was 2 years ago, on the lead-up to that AWESOME Toonami "Summer of Love" in 2015 where the 12-3 AM block scored over a million on average for 7 weeks in a row!
  23. If Gundam IBO Season 2 is anything like its predecessor, then they might want to go in a different direction with its follow-up. G Gundam in HD would be a really cool dose of amped up nostalgia for the block which would last pretty much all through 2018 and even some of 2019! Gundam's current 2 AM slot would be good for a so-bad-it's-good dub with ridiculously over-the-top animation not seen in a true mecha show since Gurren Lagann! (Though KILL la KILL did have mecha overtones, especially in the 2nd half.) The ratings for 4/22/17 won't come out for about 7 or 8 hours, and already there's good news for next week (4/29/17): There will be NO Game 7 between the Golden State Warriors and the Trail Blazers, as GSW has swept the Blazers in Game 4. A Game 7 involving GSW would have been just the worst for Toonami both in terms of ratings and trending. More good news: it's likely that some of the other Game 7's that were scheduled for that night won't need to be played, as the Houston Rockets currently lead the OKC Thunder 3-1, with games 5 and 6 still to go. Also reaching 3 wins so far and scheduled for a Game 7 that night is Toronto Raptors, currently leading the Milwaukee Bucks 3-2. Finally, and most likely to have a Game 7 that night, are the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs, which are currently tied 2-2. Of course, a Game 7 will only occur if after 6 games the 2 teams have a 3-3 tie. ANY Game 7 will significantly take Twitter buzz away from Toonami, though if only one needs to be played, it will likely be at 8 PM and won't interfere with Toonami at all, though TNT COULD go with 9 PM for a single Game 7. I think it also depends where it's played if that will be the case.
