  1. Granted, if they actually did that, I would be ecstatic, but that would be a REALLY bad idea. [unless this time they can air it uncensored] But I gotta say that "Charge" has to be an error. There's no way they would skip from #30 to #36, right??
  2. No excuse?? Even when it has been clearly established that it either stretches or crops out content, which pisses a lot of people off? The only other way would be to animate new content for the sides, and I don't even know how you'd go about that. Even if you could figure it out, it would be prohibitively expensive!!
  3. Wait, you're right. The odd "92-101" numbering scheme of Jack throws me off. This week will be "C", or 100, which is actually Season 5, Episode 9, and then the week of 9/2 will be Season 5, Episode 10. That means AOT #32 & #33 would be paired the following week, #34 & #35 the next, and #36 and #37 the next, which would be 9/23, then new rerun begins 9/30. I would like to see Samurai Champloo get a 2nd HD run!
  4. You're right. One other thing that doesn't add up is that now the AOT that precedes the last episode of Jack will be Episode 7. That means there would be 5 episodes left to double-up if expanding Toonami to 3:30. That's awkward.
  5. I don't believe it will hurt it as bad as you think it will. I think it's down to its core right now. Plus, this IS a PPV. Live cable events seem to hurt worse. But I believe Live PD will get utterly trashed and college football will just keep the beatings coming. Wow, AOT still airing? I didn't see that coming!! If the status quo remains, then that would put it ending Oct. 14 and that slot opening up Oct. 21. I would have hoped we wouldn't lose 8 PM hour to the TTGo Network but that strange development seems to indicate we will. I'd say it's probable that Super premieres continue at 9 PM, with Toonami starting once again at 11:30. I just hate that Toonami can't seem to keep a consistent schedule these days because that's what it takes to build ratings. Still, this would be my "as consistent as possible" arrangement for Oct. 7: 11:30 DBS 12 AM DBZKFC 12:30 Gundam IBO 1 AM Hunter × Hunter 1:30 JJBA: SC 2 AM Shippuden 2:30 Outlaw Star 3 AM Lupin the 3rd 3:30 Rerun TBD This way, Gundam would directly replace Ghoul, and the 3 best performers that aren't DBZ (assuming pre-emptively based on impressive trending for Outlaw Star) would get to keep their timeslots. JoJo and Lupin would be the only two shows dropping considerably. Then again, I don't really think that's going to happen, and I have no qualms with Greed Island Arc of H×H ending up back at 1:30.
  6. Well, numbers are in, and while total viewers went down for some shows, all key demographics improved!! http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-8-19-2017.html 8/19/2017 Dragon Ball Super (8:30) #6 (-1) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.46 Estimated 18-34 - 313,000 ( 35.21% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.37 Estimated 18-49 - 474,000 ( 53.32% ) Total Viewers - 889,000 8/19/2017 DBZ Kai: Final Chapters #4 (STEADY) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.51 Estimated 18-34 - 347,000 ( 42.21% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.41 Estimated 18-49 - 526,000 ( 63.99% ) Total Viewers - 822,000 8/19/2017 JJBA: Stardust Crusaders - #7 (+1) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.46 Estimated 18-34 - 313,000 ( 45.56% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.35 Estimated 18-49 - 449,000 ( 65.36% ) Total Viewers - 687,000 8/19/2017 Tokyo Ghoul - #9 (+12) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.43 Estimated 18-34 - 292,000 ( 45.84% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.32 Estimated 18-49 - 410,000 ( 64.36% ) Total Viewers - 637,000 8/19/2017 Lupin the 3rd - #24 (+34) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.32 Estimated 18-34 - 217,000 ( 42.72% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.24 Estimated 18-49 - 308,000 ( 60.63% ) Total Viewers - 508,000 Believe it or not, that's a new high in Adults 18-49 for Stardust Crusaders! And Lupin managed to climb back over 300K at a time when it sorely needed it!!
  7. I disagree. Hopefully they'll be smart and re-negotiate the 11 PM Super to a premiere before that happens! After all, that's all it would take to end this mediocre madness!! But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  8. JoJo might take another break but I can't see Diamond Is Unbreakable (Part 4) not coming sometime. And we'll just get a new Gundam show at some point too. Probably won't be occupying the Midnight Hour like they will be in October though. Maybe DIU does better than Stardust Crusaders though? Kai you are right about though. It could get another rerun in a later timeslot (hell, if Toonami goes long all the way to 6 AM again, it would work great there), but it won't get 11:30/Midnight again in reruns.
  9. I'm still holding out hope that JoJo Part 3 is somehow a "sleeper" hit, kinda like Gurren Lagann in 2014-2015. Then again, I dunno. That show was weaker in the middle and strong on either end. What show was a "sleeper" hit recently? Parasyte? And as for the 12 AM low point, that was Hellsing Ultimate X at 591K/289K 18-49 on 12/13/14, but then again, that was 12-1:30 AM. Even so, so far none of the JoJo: SC/Tokyo Ghoul/HxH combos of the previous 3 weeks have even sunk close to that low! All have been over 600K/300K 18-49!
  10. And it looks like 12:30 is most likely what it will get, too! I just can't see them moving the current Greed Island arc up to 12:30, but it's a damn shame the whole Yorknew arc got stuck at 1:30. Maybe Chimera Ant will get a shot at 12:30 when it's time for that to air!
  11. Actually, DBZ Kai preceded that. That was the first show to be aired in pillarbox format, on November 8, 2014. Cowboy Bebop HD had its short-lived 5-episode run begin January 3, 2015.
  12. Ok, yeah I suppose you're right. But if you want to get right down to it, compressed horizontally = stretched vertically, and vice versa.
  13. Guess what? This week it's more Dragon Ball Super, a show that's so overexposed it makes Samurai Jack seem rare these days! It gets 3 airings on TV AND the marathon stream at least once a month, sometimes TWICE!! In fact, it seems ever since the midpoint of the year, every 2 weeks, the Marathon Stream shows a Dragon Ball show?? Meanwhile, Hunter x Hunter hasn't even gotten out of Heaven's Arena on the weekly stream, while on TV we're already on Greed Island, and Naruto Shippuden is still in pre-Pain filler Hell and on TV we're already past Pain vs. Naruto part 1 and back into filler Hell! If you're a long-runner on Toonami that isn't Dragon Ball or JoJo, SUCKS TO BE YOU!! But thanks to last week's Marathon Stream, yeah, I may actually end up watching all of Battle Tendency in a single week!
  14. Maybe its 18-49s! It got a HUGE boost on Twitter, and if that translates to ratings, then I think we're talking: (TOTAL/18-49/18-34) DBS: 900K/500K DBZKFC: 800K/450K/325K JJBASC: 700K/400K/275K TGRA: 600K/350K/250K HXH: 550K/300K LT3: 500K/250K/175K NS: 550K/300K OS: 650K/350K AOTS2: 550K/300K Point is, I believe Outlaw Star will get a bump of close to 100K
  15. I think that "4:3 show on 4:3 TV = 16:9 show on 16:9 TV", and that last one is actually "COMPRESSED vertically", but otherwise you're right. Point being, if the screen resolution is sharp, it's HD. It really has nothing to do with the aspect ratio. If Outlaw Star were still in HD, it would look very grainy and lack definition on large TVs. I still get the SD feed of CN West, which means that I get an SD version of Outlaw Star at 4:30 AM. Maybe one day I'll check it out and see what it looks like if I can stay up that long. Or maybe I'll just DVR it, to see what it would actually look like in SD. But Outlaw Star HD looked fine to me!
  16. Filler-ish, yes, but they did reveal the important plot point that is Fusion for the first time! Somewhat akin to how DBS was handled, where they mentioned that Buu and Gohan were the new fighters despite plenty of silly comedic moments! Here's a reminder that we also get this episode at 2:30 AM on 9/3 instead of Outlaw Star!
  17. I'm not sure he knew what he was getting himself into!
  18. Here's my Top Ten for 8/19/17 Toonami (and beyond) 11 PM-4 AM: #10: Tokyo Ghoul - Seriously? We go from the awesomeness of JoJo: Stardust Crusaders to THIS!? One minute of action and 23 of "what the hell WAS that!?" #09: Naruto - Yes, no "Shippuden" this time, folks. Episode 170 was actually "Episode 221" of the original series! #08: Dragon Ball Z Kai - Master Roshi, you're a dirty, flatulent old man!! #07: Samurai Jack - "Everybody Needs Some Lovin' Sometimes..." #06: Attack on Titan - Ymir's secret, finally revealed amid some impressive tower assault scenes!! #05: Dragon Ball Super - Questioning this? Well the comedy cranked it up a notch, and it was full of plenty of good exposition despite being half-recap! #04: Lupin the 3rd - Lupin's ghost story!! #03: Hunter x Hunter - Wow, Bisky! You make Pai Mei from Kill Bill look like Mr. Rogers! And Will Zeppeli and Whis' training was like child's play! #02: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders - Well, it wasn't "Snakes On A Plane", but "Stands On A Plane"! And then what's worse than going to a Chinese restaurant and the food making you sick? The nightmare that awaited Team JoJo! #01: Outlaw Star - Damn, it's NICE having this back on the air! Gene Starwind's world just drips with intrigue and I hope over 500,000 Faithful will be along for the ride!
  19. I would say despite the fact that this episode was half-recap, it was actually a bit better than your average DBS episode since silly stuff like Sonny Strait voicing all the characters for a flashback and Goku talking to the narrator and him getting annoyed and quitting was hilarious!! Oh, and there were some interesting revelations surrounding Beerus, a character that usually provides commentary/comic relief!
  20. You mean when they stretch the screen from 4:3 to 16:9 and circular objects become ovals? Is THAT what they did with O.G. Naruto and InuYasha?? Because I really don't remember. Although lately I've been thinking HD InuYasha might be a potential future direction this block goes in, if we didn't already have it back in 2012-13. Maybe if it came back to replace AOT S2 in October or Lupin or Outlaw Star in 2018 this time they would do it right and pillarbox it? I suppose it also could regain its old graveyard slots and be an "expansion show". But yeah, I DO also remember what they used to do to FMA:B which was letterboxing it although it was already 16:9 which was beyond ridiculous, and then some shows even got the dreaded "DOUBLE-letterbox" which left only like 60% of the screen active and squished the content to hell! Thank goodness THOSE days are over, even if they tended to get higher ratings!
  21. DBZ Kai Final Chapters: Buu Saga marathon 11 PM Saturday 9/2-3:30 AM Sunday 9/3 Rick & Morty Season 3 marathon 11 PM Sunday 9/3-5 AM Monday 9/4 Is that clear enough?
  22. My best guess is that we get DBZ Kai Final Chapters in 16:9 widescreen, because that's how it was done in Japan. Now HOW it was cut into that I'm not sure. It could be that the top and bottom of the screen were edited out in the transition of DBZ to DBZ KFC, because that would certainly qualify as a "directors cut." But I have no idea if that really is the case. Still, it's not stretched significantly, so I suppose so?
  23. I think it's Christa, actually...
  24. Reiner is a meathead moron! Christa isn't the least bit interested in him!!
  25. What? You DO realize the original SD version would ALSO be pillarboxed, right?? Might as well have better resolution, but unless you want the show stretched or for the top and bottom to be cut off, there IS no other option besides drawing new animation for the pillarboxes, which may be possible for older shows but was NOT done for Outlaw Star! So keeping it SD would fix none of that. TVs were largely still square in the late '90s and have just recently been wider, and rectangular, mainly because theatrical movies were forced to lose the sides when they aired on TV, and because of that, it evolved that TVs be elongated just as theatrical movies are. Of course, the unfortunate side-effect is that older shows don't quite fit the new TV width, which is why we have pillarboxing.
