Toonami's Producing a Blade Runner Anime
OwlChemist81 replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Maybe there will be a 2nd Blade Runner remake movie around that time? That would seem to serve it well. FLCL had name recognition, but it was just too niche. This WON'T be. I expect the next mega-hit around the level of Samurai Jack when THIS hits the block! Also, I thought that there would be no chance of the dub of Black Out 2022 hitting the Better Cartoon Show--until just recently. Now it might actually show up as an extended promo for the series! That would be a decent way for Toonami to use it, as filler on a Marathon night. -
Well, this is not good: PRE-TOONAMI CN 11/24/18: The Amazing World of Gumball (repeat) (TOON, 8:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.580 million viewers (#57) • 0.33 HH (#57) • 0.15 A18-49 (#58) • 0.18 A18-34 (#26) • 0.14 A25-54 (#83) The Amazing World of Gumball (repeat) (TOON, 8:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.567 million viewers (#59) • 0.32 HH (#59) • 0.14 A18-49 (#64) • 0.17 A18-34 (#28) • 0.14 A25-54 (#83) PRIME TIME TOONAMI 11/24/18: Dragon Ball Z Kai (repeat) (ADSM, 9:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.450 million viewers (#75) • 0.28 HH (#76) • 0.14 A18-49 (#64) • 0.13 A18-34 (#52) • 0.14 A25-54 (#83) My Hero Academia (repeat) (ADSM, 9:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.420 million viewers (#81) • 0.27 HH (#82) • 0.14 A18-49 (#64) • 0.12 A18-34 (#57) • 0.14 A25-54 (#83) Naruto: Shippuden (repeat) (ADSM, 10:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.398 million viewers (#87) • 0.26 HH (#84) • 0.12 A18-49 (#82) • 0.10 A18-34 (#71) • 0.14 A25-54 (#83) Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (ADSM, 10:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.420 million viewers (#81) • 0.26 HH (#84) • 0.13 A18-49 (#75) • 0.12 A18-34 (#57) • 0.14 A25-54 (#83) Read more: https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-michigan-ohio-state-on-fox-is-the-most-watched-college-football-regular-season-telecast-of-the-season/ Note while the total viewers and households were lower, the 18-34s especially plunged from a 0.175 average during the Gumball hour to a 0.125 average during Toonami's first hour! At least the older demographic held stable and in fact increased, picking up the slack, as the 18-49s and 25-54s were fairly stable throughout (rigidly so in the case of the latter). Even so, Adult Swim's classical key demographic is 18-34, so it's quite disheartening to see them watching Gumball then leaving in droves when Toonami begins, even if they DO come back for Dragon Ball Super, and to a lesser extent, JoJo. This, from 11/17/18 (the AOT marathon night), is also interesting to note: PRE-TOONAMI CN 11/17/18: Lego JL: Gotham City (repeat) (TOON, 7:00 PM, 109 min.) • 0.578 million viewers (#58) • 0.36 HH (#57) • 0.16 A18-49 (#48) • 0.16 A18-34 (#26) • 0.16 A25-54 (#72) Teen Titans Go Fill (repeat) (TOON, 8:49 PM, 11 min.) • 0.522 million viewers (#61) • 0.32 HH (#62) • 0.14 A18-49 (#65) • 0.15 A18-34 (#29) • 0.14 A25-54 (#79) PRIME TIME TOONAMI 11/17/18: Dragon Ball Z Kai (repeat) (ADSM, 9:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.486 million viewers (#66) • 0.30 HH (#65) • 0.17 A18-49 (#41) • 0.18 A18-34 (#16) • 0.17 A25-54 (#64) Attack on Titan (repeat) (ADSM, 9:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.309 million viewers (#89) • 0.22 HH (#81) • 0.11 A18-49 (#81) • 0.13 A18-34 (#36) • 0.11 A25-54 (#92) Attack on Titan (repeat) (ADSM, 10:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.276 million viewers (#92) • 0.21 HH (#84) • 0.10 A18-49 (#91) • 0.12 A18-34 (#43) • 0.09 A25-54 (#99) Attack on Titan (repeat) (ADSM, 10:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.258 million viewers (#93) • 0.19 HH (#90) • 0.10 A18-49 (#91) • 0.12 A18-34 (#43) • 0.10 A25-54 (#96) Read more: https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-ohio-state-maryland-on-abc-in-early-afternoon-is-the-top-saturday-telecast-among-adults-18-34-and-all-key-male-demos/ A similar pattern prevailed that week, but notice that in all metrics except for total viewers and households, Kai actually won the night!

Getting SAO 3 would probably help. With Boruto getting a 0.13 and DBS getting a 0.26, I wondered: when the final numbers come in, will DBS get the fabled 200% retention in Adults 18-49? The answer is: not quite. https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-michigan-ohio-state-on-fox-is-the-most-watched-college-football-regular-season-telecast-of-the-season/ 11/24/18 - Total Viewers Show Viewers Retention DBZ Kai 450,000 MHA 420,000 93.33% Shippuden 398,000 94.76% Boruto 420,000 105.53% DBS 650,000 154.76% MP100 396,000 60.92% AOTS3 369,000 93.18% JoJo4 338,000 91.60% B. That 79,000 for Lupin at 3 AM is a record low for any timeslot, but I totally expect Gundam IBO Season 2 to eclipse it--but I don't care; it's re-airing, so *pffft*! But I digress. In case you're wondering, that's a mere 0.06 in 18-49. Even the lynchpin that is DBS wasn't enough to save the block from being ranked just above the egg the AOT marathon laid last week in 18-49! Ironically, AOT's rerun is a strength this week, as it placed 2nd in adults 18-49! At this point, it almost seems to me what would be best for the block is a double-shot of DBS at 10:30 or 11, previous week's encore followed by this week's new episode. Of course, I have no idea where in the hell they would put that...

I was talking about the other shows. Both Boruto and Mob Psycho 100 got a 0.12 in 18-34, which is the same as the 2nd and 3rd episodes of Attack on Titan during the marathon. DBS had 650K total viewers, yes, but only a 0.22K in 18-34, which is pretty low for it. The culprit is clear by looking at the F12-34 column: young women just aren't watching this Toonami anymore, despite scant attempts in FLCL Alternative and maybe a couple other shows to cater to them. They'd rather watch whatever romantic schlock Hallmark vomits out that night, as is evidenced by the 2nd-place finish from the movie this week in that demo.

http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-11-24-2018.html I believe everything that was eligible made it, but those 18-34 numbers are SCARY low. They're actually on a par with last week's primetime Attack On Titan marathon episodes though with the exception of Dragon Ball Super: Dragon Ball Z Kai (repeat) (ADSM, 9:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.486 million viewers (#66) • 0.30 HH (#65) • 0.17 A18-49 (#41) • 0.18 A18-34 (#16) • 0.17 A25-54 (#64) Attack on Titan (repeat) (ADSM, 9:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.309 million viewers (#89) • 0.22 HH (#81) • 0.11 A18-49 (#81) • 0.13 A18-34 (#36) • 0.11 A25-54 (#92) Attack on Titan (repeat) (ADSM, 10:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.276 million viewers (#92) • 0.21 HH (#84) • 0.10 A18-49 (#91) • 0.12 A18-34 (#43) • 0.09 A25-54 (#99) Attack on Titan (repeat) (ADSM, 10:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.258 million viewers (#93) • 0.19 HH (#90) • 0.10 A18-49 (#91) • 0.12 A18-34 (#43) • 0.10 A25-54 (#96) Read more: https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-ohio-state-maryland-on-abc-in-early-afternoon-is-the-top-saturday-telecast-among-adults-18-34-and-all-key-male-demos/ Still, the average for a 0.12 in 18-34 is around 82K, which was low enough 10 years ago to get "Craptacular Encore Saturday" cancelled, but I guess Toonami is playing a different ball game. Back then Nielsen ratings were HARDBALL!! while now they're more like slow-pitch softball. I guess having one ratings driver on a 7-hour block is decent though, and the block did actually seem to improve in key demos after the DBS spike later in the night.

OK, so I rewatched the Chili Pepper saga earlier today, and something jumped out at me: Joseph doesn't KNOW what Josuke's stand even IS! That is probably an important plot point for the entire season, but I'm sure even he is puzzled as to how he could slit his wrists but then a few minutes later be good as new. Also, I got the episode number wrong; this was 13, not 14. Sorry.

Could *Insert shitty show here* be headed to Toonami?

I don't think that's really the right kind of "action"... This kind is hazardous to my "No Nut November!"- 396 replies

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/mob-psycho-100/episode-4/.104908 Rating: "A". This unique show about a guy with immense powers who just wants to be normal continues to deliver! -
Can Puar actually fly, or does he/she merely "levitate?" I've never seen them actually fly in the sky, only hover a few feet off the ground. Also, I'm not sure they ever TOUCH the ground. But that's neither here not there (well, ok, maybe it IS there, but not here) https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/dragon-ball-super/episode-88/.115488 Rating: "B". Yeah, I felt it was passable. I really don't get the hate for this Recruitment arc because it does seem to have quite a few shining moments, even if they are just "previews" for what's to come!

I didn't get why in the hell Joseph had to be so damn melodramatic. I mean, he DOES know what Josuke's stand ability is, right? Is he so senile he forgot he can put him together good-as-new as long as there's still life energy left in his body (as was the case with Okuyasu 2 episodes ago)!? https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/jojo-bizarre-adventure-diamond-is-unbreakable/episode-13/.103623 Oddly enough, this reviewer didn't notice that quirk, but it is also somewhat surprising the animation didn't follow that. I guess it's up to the viewer to recognize that Josuke's Shining Diamond being summoned means Joseph would be OK, but anyone watching this episode for the first time without having seen the previous 12 might be a bit confused. I guess that's why this got an "A" instead of an "A+".
