How in the hell did you do that!?

Oh, that makes sense. So this isn't an "Is Lupin Still Burning" situation after all! Hard to believe at this point since we've been through 2020 and 2021 which both featured an assortment of Warner Brothers animated movies, but that and the SAO Alicization premiere were really the only 2 things aired in all 2019 that didn't fit neatly into a 30-minute runtime.

I felt the same way about Gundam: The Origin. The bumps never went past Episode 1 despite the fact that the show had regular timeskips. Just acknowledging that Casval/Char had grown up in the bumpers would have been nice. But where that show did score big was its perfect promo. By far my favorite promo of 2019! But I digress. I can certainly see Made In Abyss ending up the same way if more care isn't taken to it. The last 4 episodes have been fairly lighthearted with an air of foreboding. But the mood seems to be changing now...

...but wait, TBS DOES air AEW, and NCAA Basketball once a year. And I think they still air movies. They just acquired AEW at the beginning of 2022, so it might take some time for the change. But if the status quo remains, I'd say it's not too farfetched that, sometime in 2023, the Demon Slayer movie airs on TBS after AEW... ...EVEN IF it still hasn't come to Toonami. On that note, it looks like this season would have some REALLY wonky airtimes, including an hour-long premiere and a 45-MINUTE finale! Maybe it's best that Demon Slayer Season 2 ISN'T coming yet, if ever.

I think given these rerun ratings, the only hope Toonami has for getting to run Demon Slayer season 2 in 2022 may be for it to get a 9 PM Weeknights Block on TBS after reruns of The Big Bang Theory: http://www.ratingsryan.com/2022/01/top-200-cable-reruns-week-ending_31.html?m=1 Why they didn't try this with Blade Runner: Black Lotus is beyond me (not the whole series; just an episode), especially since the lead character Elle is actually voiced by the actress who played Penny. Do that with a sneak of the first episode and you MIGHT get an untapped potential audience for Toonami!

Black Lotus ended and Shenmue began, and Toonami returned to the Top 50 this week: https://showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-saturday-2-5-2022-top-150-cable-originals-network-finals.html All of the first half of Toonami made the chart, and Black Lotus's thrilling conclusion even cracked the Top 30! And, both originals beat the Senior Bowl in Adults 18-49!

Shenmue goes ahead of AOT, but I believe those 2 shows will compliment each other well. Ass Class is a bit of a departure and would probably work better with the goofiness of One Piece, so if they're gonna lead off with Shenmue, why they don't switch Ass Class and Made In Abyss is a mystery to me. Except for potentially dropping an OP, I feel the lineup is stable now. There is the possibility of another special event when The Batman hits theaters in March (the 5th), as well as perhaps a special lineup or lineups to celebrate Toonami's 25th Anniversary on March 12th and/or 19th (probably with Shenmue and AOT still on, but if AOT needs a dub hiatus this would be the time), but notwithstanding THAT, I believe the next time we'll see a significant change will be in April when MiA ends. Will Toonami somehow be able to roll right into Season 2, or is it time for Food Wars Season 5 or Lupin Part 6 as a stopgap instead?

One Piece is BACK on Toonami this Saturday

I'm not so sure this is true. The subtitled version was streaming in the usual places subtitled versions stream for 6 months by the time it made its way to Toonami in October 2019. That period is where it got the most of its popularity; in fact when it came to Toonami, we were dumbfounded that they would give it a 1:30 AM timeslot in mid-block instead of a headliner like One-Punch Man, but thankfully that error was corrected when the calendar rolled over to 2020 (and Fire Force ended), and its first run concluded at 12:30 AM behind only MHA. And as far as I can tell, Aniplex's contract with Toonami was a 2-year deal, so they would have fairly recently lost the rights, allowing Netflix to swoop in last October. -
The only good thing about Fena potentially getting a second season is there might be an opportunity to retcon the last couple of episodes of the first season. I actually didn't hate the ending, but I do wish they would have done more with Fena's training. Having her shoot a bow and arrow at a pivotal moment in the fight when Abel had the upper hand would at least have been nice. I also would have preferred some kind of showdown between Fena and Grace O'Malley if she wasn't blown to smithereens, apparently, in Episode 7.

Another winner of an episode! https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/made-in-abyss/episode-4/.119493 Grade: A. A funny note toward the bottom: this show first aired on ANIME STRIKE--remember that bizarre double-paywall venture from Amazon Prime? This is why I say Demon Slayer Season 2 WILL air on Toonami someday...and probably JoJo Part 6 as well.
